  1. I recently bought a new STI Escort in .45. Very accurate little gun. I carry appendix (middle of stomach to the right of my belt buckle) in a Galls IWB leather holster (for a Glock 19) for now, but have a IWB leather holster for the 3.0 - 3.5 1911 on order that should arrive any day now. A little too soon to comment on reliability since I only have 200 rounds down range at this point.
  2. Front Sight, Will the Full Size/Production model have the internal buffer like the Compact and Subcompact? I think this really helps with muzzle flip.

    p-01 or Rami

I would go with the P-01 if it were me. The Rami is not that much shorter length-wise, but the grip area is just not there for me (yes I know I can get extended mags to give me more grip area). With the right holster the P-01 is just as concealable as the Rami IMHO.
  4. I made my own IWB kydex holster for the subcompact, but I'd like to find a more "professional" quality holster. The one I made is kind of primitive, but it works ok. I have an IWB holster made by Theiss holsters for a P-07 that I carry the compact in, but I had to do some modifications around the trigger guard area to make it work. The compact won't fit into the Glock 19 Desantis IWB holster I have either due to the rather large trigger guard on the Sphinx. The compact does sort of fit into an OWB kydex holster I have for the Sig 229R though so it may fit into an IWB for a 229.
  5. Pc1663, it's been quite a while now - any news from CGW?
  6. What spring weight are you using on your recoil spring? Does your support hand thumb occasionally rub against the slide while firing?

    P-09 grip size

Don't hold back EdwinG, tell us how you really feel about it...
  8. How do you like the Walther CCP? Any probs with it? How does it recoil? Hard to tear down for cleaning? Does the barrel have polygonal rifling or normal rifling?
  9. The two lawyers I've talked to said the trigger pull weight won't be an issue in a legal shoot. The problems arise in the case of an accidental discharge and someone gets killed or injured - then the light trigger is a major factor against you. So I guess if you have to shoot someone make it be on purpose and legally defendable.
  10. I did try to force it into lock up the first time it happened, but I thought that made it lock up even tighter. The next times I didn't beat the slide forward, I beat it backwards only to unlock it. But in any case I didn't measure the OAL since I didn't have a caliper with me. I put the bullet back in the gun and it shot just fine. The next time I will save the bullet and measure it. I was thinking it was probably the gun since it happened on two different brands of factory ammo. I never had this happen on any of my other CZs - SP01, P-07, 85C, 75 Compact .40.
  11. My P-01 slide has locked up while chambering a round three times now. It does not go all the way into battery when it happens and I have to use a rubber mallet to break it loose. Happened twice with Tula and once with WWB (both 115 grain FMJ round nose ammo). After I got the slide loose I took the round and dropped it into the chamber with no problems. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
  12. I have both the Compact and Subcompact Sphinx/Kriss pistols. They are about the same width as my P-07. Very nice guns both, but I prefer to shoot the Compact. The Subcompact is only about 1/2" shorter than the Compact and it has a shorter grip (and holds two rounds less). I carry both with no issues. The internal buffer, rubber grips and high undercut of the trigger guard makes the Compact a soft shooter - the Sub has an all hard plastic handle. Pretty accurate both of them and very well made.
  13. Do these have land & groove rifling or polygonal or hexagonal (or some kind of gonal) rifling?
  14. Safariland makes an OWB holster for it, but I also want an IWB for it. Someone on another thread was saying that it fits pretty good in a holster for a P228. I've tried it in my holsters for the Glock 19 and the CZ P-07 but it does not fit past the trigger guard. It fits into a generic leather holster I have for appendix carry though. I think Kriss/Sphinx has links to holster makers on their site.
  15. I got to shoot it yesterday and today. Pretty accurate for a small gun with a short barrel - I put 8 out of ten in the outside ring and all shots on paper and one almost center of the smallest ring at 50 yds (first shots out of the gun). I was pretty shaky (tremors) both days so the sights were moving around on me pretty much. At 7 yards I was getting small groups and at 5 yards even smaller. I know I can do even better on a day when I have better control of my body. I noticed today that I had a blister on my trigger finger in the area where the finger is closest to the trigger guard. I have heard talk of this happening with some CZs, but this is a first for me. Does not happen with the SDP compact. Strange.
  16. Do it right the first time - get them all! (all that apply that is)
  17. Pc1663, Have you heard anything from David at CGW on this yet?

    Sphinx Sub Compact

Got my Sphinx subcompact last night. I don't think the CGW spring kit will work though as it appears that the hammer spring will be shorter and the firing pin is shorter as well. Nice crisp SA trigger with a very short reset on it though and the DA trigger is not so heavy I can't work it.
  19. Got the Subcompact last night and took pictures to compare it with the Sphinx Compact, Glock 19, P-01, P-07, SP-01 & SIG 229, but all the pictures turned out too dark and not very clear with my cell phone so I'm not going to post pics until I can get some decent ones. Need to get some outside in daylight, but I work during the day and my company is not "gun friendly" so I can't do it at work. First impressions so far: DA is kind of heavy ~ 10 lbs, but smooth. SA is sweet - feels like it has a crisp CGW competition hammer in it - around 4.0-4.5 lbs with no creep and no hammer camming. Reset is also nice and very short - can feel and hear it (again similar to CGW). Sights are the same as the Sphinx Compact (I like). The feel of the grip is not as good as the Compact and there are no interchangeable backstraps and no rubber pads on the butt to help absorb the shock of firing (all plastic grip like the P-07 Duty). Nice undercut of the trigger allows all fingers on the grip (for me anyway). The recoil spring is heavy and requires some effort to rack the slide. The trigger guard is quite large and would allow a gloved finger to easily access the trigger. The hammer is different from the Compact and reminds me of the old CZ 75 hammers (only with a shorter spur). It looks like the spring kit from CGW for the Compact will probably not work since the hammer spring is probably shorter. The CGW firing pin spring may work even though it looks like the firing pin is almost 1/4" shorter based on slide comparisons with the Compact (rear of slide to breach face is shorter). Not impressed with the lock up as the barrel can be moved slightly and it does not appear to be that tight of a fit around the barrel and bushing. Hoping the weather stays nice so I can go shoot it (may try to sneak off from work sometime this week and do this).
  20. Get the CGW hammer with the short reset system - worth every penny.
  21. P-01 or P-07 for carry since they're lighter, Compact for glove box carry and home. If you go with the P-07 get the 2014 version as there were issues with the Duty. P-07 & P-01 can also be used for glove box/home so they may be better all around choice. I have all three and I sometimes carry the all-steel Compact .40. Of course there's also the PCR...

    Shock buffers

I tried them in my 1911 and the only issue was not locking open on last round.

    Shock buffers

To me a buffer is for softening muzzle flip when the slide hits the frame.
