  1. krazykj03, Get some MecGar mags from Greg Cote I think it is gregcote.com.
  2. I was having ignition probs on my Sphinx SDP Compact after CGW springs on WWB 115 GR. until I read the post by WAKTASC concerning polishing the firing pin and the effect the FPB could have. I polished the FP really good paying special attention (more than polish) to the areas engaged by the FPB. As a result I fired 300 WWB and 50 Win Train & Defend 147 gr. during one session without a problem.
  3. Sounds about where my shots hit when I "flinch" or anticipate the recoil since I am a right handed shooter. I push the gun to recover after recoil and sometimes my rhythm gets off and I push before recoil...

I've mixed up some Liqui-Moly and FP-10 (50/50) in a little 1/2 oz bottle with a needle applicator. Gonna use it on the sear cage items the next time I clean a gun. I put some CGW Moly grease on the sear the last time and it seems to have improved the SA pull some (smoother).
  5. I took mine apart and polished the firing pin - especially the area that engages the firing pin block (rounded some edges). Frog lubed FP and channel. Shot 300 WWB 115 gr. and 50 Winchester 147 gr. Train and Defend ammo - absolutely no issues. Either the firing pin was dragging in the channel or the FPB was hanging up the FP. You may want to try this if you haven't already. The final test will be to get my hands on some Russian ammo (Tula at wallyworld) and see if it ignites them reliably - David at CGW told me Tula was known for hard primers.
  6. I have 5 CZs one with about 4k rounds through it and no trigger return spring issues - of course I automatically order CGW's TRS and special pin for each new CZ I purchase because I have heard the same thing. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as they say.
  7. Let me know what he determines so I can get mine running right as well. Thanks
  8. Have you contacted CGW about the issue?
  9. I installed the reduced power firing pin spring and the firing pin block spring then ran 200 rounds of WWB through the Sphinx. I had two failure to ignites - one from each 100-round box of WWB. I guess I will have to re-install the factory hammer spring and learn to live with the stiffer DA pull unless someone has suggestions. By the way, I did not polish the FPB or the hole it sits in since they are so nicely machined and seem to be coated with something - very impressed with Sphinx's workmanship!

I get my Moly lube straight from a Czech mining operation!

    Sphinx Sub Compact

That's a good question bigdave24. Hopefully someone will review and have a comparison in it.
  12. I took a Matt Mink class and he recommended the CoC so I immediately bought three of them of different strengths. I guess I overdid it because my strong side middle finger joint (where the finger meets the hand/knuckle) got irritated. I refused to stop shooting and subconsciously I would loosen my grip while running a stage. This resulted in very poor recoil control and the trigger guard impacting my trigger finger. To make a long story short, I ended up with severe "stress injuries" in both knuckles of my firing hand and I haven't shot a match since last July (6+ months) and I don't know when or even if I will ever shoot again. I'm hoping it hasn't turned into arthritis by now. If you are over 40 please do yourself a favor and take it extremely easy with CoC use.

    Sphinx Sub Compact

Pc1663, I think the Sphinx is softer shooting because of the built in recoil buffer in the frame. The nice undercut beneath the trigger guard might help some as well (higher grip). I am also thinking about adding a subcompact to the collection since the SDP is so well made and it is a nice shooter too boot. I have not seen any subcompact reviews (that were not done by the manufacturer) either. They are supposed to be commonly available anytime now so maybe the reviews will start to roll in.
  14. Thanks Pc1663. That is what I was hoping to avoid which is why I asked prior to trying. Sorry I got to learn from your misfortune. Good luck finding a replacement pin.

As for aftermarket support, I hear CGW is going to be the official custom shop for Sphinx.

I use frog lube to heat & treat new guns (and every once in a while). I also use frog lube to clean the guns up after shooting them. I use CGW's Moly grease on the slide rails, barrel lug, and the end of the barrel where it goes through the barrel bushing - makes it feel like its on well lubed ball bearings. Just a touch of the grease though. I use FP-10 on the sear cage items and let frog lube take care of the rest. Any oil or grease with Moly is great to prevent wear and tear. The moly coats both mating surfaces and the parts glide on a film of Moly rather than metal-to-metal. Found this out from a metallurgist at work.
  17. My P-01 shot the best group yesterday of the three guns I was shooting bench rest - P-07, SP-01 and P-01. A less than 1" row (horizontal) of five rounds at 15 yards - all holes connecting/overlapping. I was impressed. Moved it up in the CCW rotation.

    P-09 trigger ?

My 2014 P-07 trigger (same as the P-09) is very nice with the CGW parts in it. The DA pull will be nice when I drop in a CGW or CZ custom hammer it I will bet (long/creepy - but not gritty).
  19. I put a CGW competition hammer on my SP-01 and get pretty much no creep and no hammer camming. I haven't measured the SA pull, but I'd say it was 3 lbs or less. I have never used a CZ Custom hammer so I can't speak for them.
  20. I put the CGW hammer/main spring in my SDP and it lightened the DA pull a fair amount. I have not put in the firing pin spring or the firing pin block spring yet since I would like to know if the firing pin retaining pin in the slide needs to be pushed out a certain direction so I don't booger up the pin/slide. I know some Sigs need to be pushed out from a certain side. I also installed CGW's 15# recoil spring (for the P-07/P-09) using a P-07 plastic guide rod in the Sphinx so it would cycle the 147 gr. (130 PF) Atlanta Arms ammo and lock the slide open on the last round with this lighter ammo - worked good. Anyway, I took it to the range and fired 100 rounds each of Fed 115 gr (walmart), Atlanta Arms 147 gr. (130 PF), and WWB. Out of these 300 rounds I had two failure to ignite conditions with WWB only. The first failure to ignite went off on the first follow-up DA pull and the second went off on the fourth DA pull. I think I need CGW's reduced power firing pin spring installed. Can anyone tell me which direction the pin in the Sphinx slide needs to come out? Thanks.
  21. The 15-round magazines from a Canik Stingray are almost a perfect match for the Sphinx SDP except their followers are blue instead of red. I took measurements from both guns and placed the backs of them against each other and they are almost exactly the same. I took a Canik mag with me to the range and it worked flawlessly and locked back on the last round shot every time. They fit flush and don't wobble in the mag well any more than the Sphinx mags. Slightly different finishes and markings and holes on one side, but other than that they are essentially mirror copies of each other. The springs look similar too. Best of all, J&G has Canik mags for 24.99 and Sphinx mags for 34.99!
