  1. Vince, I appreciate the work you do for IPSC. However, the design of the XD was not around in 1976 when IPSC was formed and I think a lot of modern designs are being thown into a catagory because it does not fit anywhere else. Don't get me started on BATF, as I know how they work. If you truly think that the XD should compete in the same catagory as a 1911 then, in my opinion, your thinking is flawed. If you are just towing the company line of the BOD of IPSC, I can understand that. I am not being critical you, I will never shoot an IPSC match, as I rarely get to travel out of my state to shoot a USPSA match, I just think IPSC is wrong on their ruling of the XD as is IDPA. Steve
  2. fullautodave is correct in that the cocked indicator actually does move back slightly as the trigger is pulled! As far as IDPA is concerned, it was one of the main board of directors that did not want the XD in SSP as he felt it would take away from the Glock legion of shooter and, he is a Glock guy! If you play or shoot both guns you will see that the XD should be competiting with the Glock in the IDPA arena. Like my 6 year likes to say "that's not fair". But those in charge make the rules, regardless of who they take $$$$$ from. Steve
  3. I just read this whole thread, I have several XD's and really like them... I was a Glock guy for over a decade, but really like the XD better. The chamber support is excellent, I would shoot the stock XD and see how it shoots. If you shooter better than it does then go for a Bar-Sto barrel, if not, shoot the stock barrel. My guns all shoot under 3" at 25 yards. I really like the trigger. I have shot some with really good triggers, but I like mine stock. I might like the actual break to be a little lighter, but the 5 pounds that it now is, is ok for IPSC Prod and IDPA. One of my Tactical .40's has over 5000 rounds thru it with only 2 malfunctions. One being at our state IDPA match!!!!!!! Steve H
  4. Back in 1999 I was C class limited shooter, and won my class at the Texas limited. That was in Sept of 99, and in May of 2000 I had my M card. I started believing in myself and started to really learn to see the front sight as I "pressed" the trigger. I had no yet started reading Brian's book, but had in on a shelf. I think the biggest thing for me was believing in myself and my ability. Steve
  5. Flex, the match I run (along with KellyN from the 3 gun area) is an flush magazine, so if you want to be scored major, you are limited to 8 rounds in the magazine. If you shoot minor, you could shoot a 9mm or .38 super with 10 rounds. So long as your mag is flush with the bottom of the frame you are fine. Steve
  6. I know of two at my club alone, Dave Vaughn made GM about 6 years ago, and Craig Stapp make it about 5 years ago, both in Limited. This was prior to L10 and Production. They are both dedicated Glock shooters.
  7. The monthly and annual Single Stack match I run at Rio Salado is designed by TGO, and it is very similar to this. Like BE said it is somewhat like Vickers scoring. We use an IDPA target and score it time plus the points down. If you shoot major it is a half second per point down in the -1 (or C) zone, and in the -3 or (D) zone. For minor it use be full second for each point down, but I am changing that, so a -3 or a (D) won't be so costly. At first it was met with mixed results from the IPSC crowd, but when I made the score card eaiser for them, it has been very favorably received. It forces the shooter to be more accurate. You can't drop to many points and do well in the match. Steve
  8. I bought my first pair last March (2003) and have been wearing them daily, even some Saturdays and Sundays while shooting, since I got them. I have a job that allows me the wear them at work. They are the most comfortable shoe or boot that I have ever worn. I have a pair of GSG9 and Danner Acadia's, the Danner's are hughly durable. I have ordered 2 more pair (one in Tan) since getting my first pair. My feet are never tired at the end of the day like when wearing my GSG9's or Danner's. I cannot recommand them highly enough. If you want years of duability buy the Danners. If you want the most comfortable buy the Oakley. Steve
  9. Check the Springfield site and click on the box that says Leatham Legend Series, they have pictures and discriptions. Steve
  10. I have three Trophy Match pistols, 2 in .45 and 1 in .40. Great pistols, they are not true custom gun, however they all shoot great. One thing I like about the springfield adjustable sight (Bomar copy) is that it has a deeper notch than the Bomar. I put a Bomar on a different .45 I had and did not like it as I was use to the Springfield. The one Trophy Match I shoot the most was a blue finish, but had the entire gun NP-3'd by Robar, and it gets smoother the more I shoot it. About 15 to 20k rounds through it and it runs great! I will try to find the TGO line on the site and send it back to you. Steve
  11. Look at the Springfield TGO 1 , it has everything you are looking for, or you could look at the Professional.
  12. That is awsome, I will have to look for them. Steve
  13. I have tried several, Pro Ears, the old Dillon and the new ones, as well as the large peltor (don't know the model). We have an indoor range at my work and the only ones we can use it the Pro Ears Pro Mag, as we are required to have a high NRR. They work great for me, I have several sets of Pro Ears, and like the Pro Mag the best. The best fitting are the new Dillon ones, but I don't care for the way it seems to shut off when shooting, it seems to shut off longer than the Pro Ears. The old Dillon (I thing Peltor made them), were great, except the the inner pad was too close to my ear, which would draw my sweat into the electronics, causing them to malf. two times, Dillon replaced both sets. I don't like anything other then electroincs anymore. Steve
  14. I have a set on my 5" XD and love them. I do wish the rear sight notch was a little deeper thou. I also need a taller front sight as it shoots a few inches high at 15 yards. I have the Dawson front sight on all my match guns, usually with a BoMar rear. I really like that setup, the dot really draws my eyes to it. Steve
  15. I shoot a Springfield Trophy Match in .45. in A class. I made M limited with a Glock, back in the day. While shooting the Area 2, we had just under 50 L-10 shooters, and I talked to alot of L-10 shooters who have or are going to make the switch to the widebody guns. All said it is eaiser to load. Steve Hendricks told me that he was the hi single stack finisher at the Factory gun nationals, at 16th or 17th (I can't remember for sure), he felt the wide body gun was much eaiser to load. I am having a Hi cap gun built, but it will be my Limited gun. I will keep shooting the single stack in L-10 Steve
  16. Shooting plates is one of my favorite drills to do. I will try to do them as much as I can, It really makes me focus on all the right things, especially at the 20 and 25 yard line. At our club we are pretty lucky, we have 6 plate racks now. Just got two new ones last week. Steve
  17. Just shot the monthly IDPA match at our club (Rio Salado Sportsman's Club) in Mesa, AZ and just wanted to send out some Kudo's to the match directors for a job well done. The match was excellent, with 8 stages that rival any state IDPA match I have ever shot. One two of the bays they set up 3 stages each, this is a feat in and of itself. Some quick shoots, along with some prone, strong and weak hand only stages, reloads, shooting on the move, everything you can want from a great match. If you live in the greater Phoeinx area, and like to shoot IDPA, you owe it to your self to come out and try this match. It is run at 1400 hrs on the fourth Sat of each month. Steve
  18. Last week Rio Salado had its first afternoon IDPA match. This match had been held in the mornings, prior to last week. The match started at 2:00 PM and was great time. The match had 8 stages that were all excellent. It was match director, Dave Paasch's, first IDPA match and he did an great job. I know some of you shot the match, but alot of the Phoenix area shooters did not. If you like to shoot IDPA, you need to come out March 27th and give it a shot. Dave puts on great stages and he will make the Rio IDPA monthly match the best in the southwest! You can start at 2:00 and will probably be finished up around 4:00 or 4:30. See you there Steve H
  19. Rhino, thanks for the reply, I had a buddy go to a carbine class at Gunsite and there was a Navy Seal in the class, when they covered the tac reload, it was new to him. He said they either do a speed reload or a slide/bolt open reload. I have on good info, that the D guys in the Army never train with a tac reload. I know of NO tac reload in a LE shooting. I would like to hear about one. Steve H
  20. My boss and I have been throwing this around lately. As a police firearms instructor, we are mandated by the state to teach our folks the "tactical reload". Does anyone know of any of the following: 1. Has anyone every been involved in a shooting where they did a tactical reload during a "lul" in the gunfight? 2. Has anyone ever been involved in a shooting where they did a tactical reload and had to fire at the bad guy after doing so? 3. Has anyone ever been involved in a shooting and performed a tactical reload and had to fire at the bad guy during the tactical reload? 4. Has anyone ever been involved in a shooting and had to resort to the mag that they stowed away to save their life? I truly want to find out if anyone knows of any of this has every occurred. I have not found any thing in my short research. Thanks, Steve
  21. If you like shooting IDPA and live in the greater Phoenix area (even if you don't) these IDPA matches will be the ones not to miss. Dave puts on a great match and he will no doubt outdo himself with the IDPA match. I would bet, that with Dave at the helm of this, he will get some of the IPSC guys at RIO to come out and shoot some IDPA. See some of you Sat. Steve
  22. Fossil, thanks for the remarks............... For USPSA to agree to change the scoring would be incredible to say the least. Anyway, I think the miss/no shoot penalty will happen. I am getting feedback from several folks and will make a decision prior to the March montly single stack match. The idea behind all shots on targets count, is one that I will probably sitck with, as it challenges the shooter to be in position to make the shot. It will not be a stage that is filled with no shoots set up to "screw over" shooters, it will be placed like we did on stage 10. It made you really aim, and that is what I truly like about the scoring system. Thanks again, I am getting ready to start working on next years match. I already placed it on the calender at the club, and as it works out, there is a 5th weekend in Jan. 05, so put on your calenders. Steve
  23. Well Angus, if you did shoot one (or two) it did not seem to matter! YOu shot great! Steve
  24. Steven, thanks for the input, I wish other shooters would give constuctive critisisim (spelled wrong I am sure). I will play with the miss/no shoot issue over the course of the next year at our monthly match. I will have detailed scoring flyer either on this site, or at our www.azgunning.com site. I really struggled with the trophy/classification issue this year. There has to be a better way, I agree................ Again, that is something I will work on over the next 11 months. You guys stay warm and dry up there. And I will add you guys to my 1911 e-mail list and you can let me know when some cool matches will be running up there. I would love an excuse to come up in the summer time. Steve
