5th_annual_wsssc_V3_09092006.pdfThe 5th Annual Western States Single Stack Championship will take place on Jan. 20th and 21st 2007, at Rio Salado Sportsman's Club in Mesa, AZ. I have attached a copy of the match application. This match was very well attended last year, and we will probably have to limit the match to 200 shooters. If you have any questions let me know. 2006 Practical Rifle Team Challenge
Steve H replied to Zak Smith's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
Jimmy and Zak, and the rest of the crew, great job again............. Kelly and I were talking on the way home, and it would have been nice to have an equipment report of what everyone was shooting in the way of carbines and rifles.......if anyone is up to it, I am sure I am not the only one who is curious... I shot a Rem 40X action, with a 28inch (unknown brand) barrel in .260, with KellyN sweating over the loading of my ammo, with a bitchen Bausch & Lomb 6-24 scope.....the scope was great out to 750 yards...............after that it was hold high and hope for the best! The rifle was in a McMillian A5 stock. Steve H -
2006 Practical Rifle Team Challenge
Steve H replied to Zak Smith's topic in Multi-Gun, Rifle & Shotgun Match Announcements
I returned home late last night from this match, and have to say that this match more that met my expectiations! I have read about the match in Wyoming and some other team sniper matches for several years, and have wanted to shoot them. When Eric and Kurt gave me some info at the SHOT show this year, I knew I would attend this one. Kellyn and I shot as a team, and I had a great time. The stages were great, the RO's and staff we AWESOME, I run large match, and have helped with the Area 2 match for several years so I know what it takes to run a good, quality match, and this group did it. I had never shot this type of match before, and did not know what to expect. If you have ever wanted to shoot this type of team rifle match, do yourself a favor and be on the look out for next years match. It was great, the prizes were great, and the NRA Whittington Center is great.............. To all the staff................job well done! Kurt, talk Jimmy into doing only one night shoot............I don't care if it goes late, that way we can have another night of beer drininkin............even if I do drink the cheap beer. You and Kelly can drink the pumpkin ale! Great match guys! See you there next year! Steve H -

Hey Kurt, Just a quick note to let you know that this last weekend was outstanding. You guys worked your butt's off, and it was very appreciated! The match was more than I could have hoped for. Kelly and I talked on our short 10 hour ride home, and for me, it totally met my expectations. We learned a lot, and will return everytime you guys run it. I will put another post out later, but just wanted to let you know you guys did a GREAT job, and I can't say enough good about the match and the job you guys did. Steve -
Thanks, I will give that a look.........I wondered what the paper was inside the nylon case. Steve

I have been working daily on an indoor range for the last 5 years, and have never been able to solve the echo problem with all sorts of timers. If anyone gets great results, please let me know. steve h

I have had mine for about a month, and it has been great.........I did have to put a bead of silicon around the edges of the screen so dust would not get in it, as it was a litttle loose. Other than that, it is great. this is my first big Pact, I have had several club timers, and really like them for running classes, this is my training timer, and I could not be happier. Steve H

If [insert Name Of Gm De Jour] Shot Action Pistol...
Steve H replied to BigDave's topic in NRA - Bianchi Cup
This was my second BC, and I will continue to go as long as it exists.........I would like to piggy back on what 8shooter said, I arrived on Sunday afternoon, and started practicing, and shot everyday except Sat. and shot right at 3400 rounds, in practice and the match. This is the best learning environment I have been in to get back to trigger control and sight alignment. I have my ideas as to why the match seems to draw less and less shooters. First is I think the rules change to much from year to year. Second is that most IPSC shooters have to choose what matches they are going to travel to, and the BC is not on their list. The reason for that is that most IPSC shooters view the BC as boring, and I really believe that most of us view the BC as too difficult. One other reason for declining shooters is that most do not have what they view as competitive equipment. Most IPSC shooters have a limited gun that is capable of shooting well enough to be competitive, and could. Like Julie said, the NRA/BC really needs to have a true production class, very similar to USPSA's. If they did that, and made it another division, and changed the rules to read, "no one can touch the barricade, only place anyone can go prone is the 50 yard line on the practical", I would expect more new shooters would come to the match. I know that will never happen, because it would piss off the 25-50 shooters in the world who have Bianchi Open guns, just for this match. I would like to see 3 divisions, Open, Metallic, and Production. But since the NRA does not enforce current rules, and why would they adopt more to make it more attactive to the first time shooter. Sorry for the rant. Steve -
I have not followed this thread very close and kind of glossed over the messages, but I can tell you this. As the match director of the Western States Single Stack Championship, these last 4 years, we have drawn just under 100 shooter each year. This year, when I changed the rules and scoring to USPSA, we has 158 shooters, and I am sure we will be at 200 next year. From what I have be seeing in AZ, Single Stack will grow. Steve

Kelly, you were only off by a year on Rob's Bianchi gun, in 2004, it had a FO on it.......... Dan Wesson acutually stole the blueprints from JMB, while a janitor at the Browning factory, where he was working, prior to his partnership with Smith. Steve
