  1. Just reading your post, I think you might be a little too anxious to call your shots. When I notice groups are opening up, I'm usually looking at the target instead of the sights. How many rounds it takes depends on many things. What I'm going to say next is not something I'm saying to be a PITA, but I know that if you focus on the roundcount, instead of the shooting itself (like having a roundcount 'deadline' to learn how to call your shots) that will most likely slow down the progress. Just shoot and pay attention to what's happening....It's amazing how much information is just 'out there' to be seen, if you'll just pay attention to the shooting. Brian says something like that in his book and that really helped me to learn how to focus and call my shots. But in the end, you'll have to experience it for yourself.... How many rounds it will take you to experience, you will only know when it happens.

    I'm with you Dave.

    June

LOL, well, I decided that since this is my favourite movie, and the tagline will stick, I might as well change the avatar to something more appropriate.
  4. Well I just realized I could go on and on, but actually every sentence in movie is a quote worth mentioning here, so I'll leave it.... Just buy the friggin' movie....
  5. I shoot all my guns the way you shoot them (with the middle of the pad). The joint gives you excessive movement of the finger IMHO.
  6. I, like John don't read the flame wars all that much. I'm sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your beloved ones.

    S&w Frames?

Yes, they're great fun. Tough to shoot in IPSC though. I shot a match in the Czech Republic last week and Saul Kirsch was there (he was number 5 open on the last World Shoot). He summed it up pretty good: "when you shoot revolver in IPSC, everything is virginia count". There's no room for error or misses. I haved no hints for reloading .38 special. I have two 625's in .45 ACP. I don't reload .38 yet. But I would probably pick a nice average N320 load for .38 special. Good luck with your .357's

    S&w Frames?

You are correct. J is smallest. N used to be largest. Now X-frames (.500 S&W magnum) is the largest. 686's are L-frames and 66's are K-frames.
  9. It's a shame Chris Farley passed away. I would have loved it if he did the audio version of THE book. Or Rodney Dangerfield (and it'd be cool if he put in some of his own comments on the stuff Brian wrote)
  10. Eric Grauffel. The kid (OK he's as old as I am) lives 500 miles away from the closest shooter and practiced in his "back yard" to get to where he is now. Jerry Miculek. Same story. Self taught revolver hero. Love that self taught stuff.
  11. WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!! OK everyone, I just had my wide serrated triggers installed and my friggin' splits went down 0.05 seconds!!!! I can pull the trigger 60+ times in 10 seconds now. Dang, I didn't expect that much of a difference!
  12. I have a question concerning PSS. I want to know how much memory your PDA should have in order to run PSS. I am probably going to buy a PDA just for PSS and I was looking at the Palm Zire PDA. It has only 2MB of memeory...but it's really cheap ($99).
  13. Flex, S&W already produce the 610 in 10mm auto, which will shoot .40S&W as well. I believe S&W took the .38 super road for the IDPA crowd. Their new 686 4" .38 super is the brand new "ultimate" IDPA revolver. I agree with you that a 9x19 revolver would be the coolest. I would buy one immediately. Gumshoe, I have no idea how much such a conversion would cost. Just contact one of the guys who does these conversions and you'll know. If you decide to do the 9mm conversion, let us know how it works out. I'm really curious.
  14. It can be done. I've thought of doing the same thing. If you're going to use the revolver in competition, and you really want to shoot 9mm, it's the only option, I think. I personally would contact Tom at TKCustom www.moonclip.com He converts 686 and 66's to 9x23. The conversions also shoot 9x19 and 9x21. The conversions use moonclips, and I believe the price is right. Flex, S&W's only 9mm wheelguns are really small revolvers used for defensive stuff. Ruger makes some 9mm revolvers.....
  15. My #1 lesson is that there are no #1 lessons. Everything is important and you'll always run into things that need attention.
  16. AFAIK, The revolver holster from CR (I have one) is the same as the 1911 holster. It just has a different muzzle cup (the really big one). So if I were your friend, I would buy a CR revolver holster and a separate muzzle holder for 1911's (like the arredondo). About what Kimel said, I got my revolver holster with a lot of spacers to make my revolver fit the holster frame. If you buy the 1911 holster, you'll get the same holster frame, but not all the spacers. So again, buy the revo holster and a separate 1911 muzzle thingy. BTW, I got this info from Saul Kirsch, who happens to be a CR dealer. I would specify to whom you buy from, what your plans are, however. Just to make sure.
  17. I agree 100% with what George said. I have long fingers (about 5-5.5"). I tried all sorts of stuff with grips. Then finally I just modified my grip by dremeling it down to almost nothing, and building it up from scratch using Milliput (a 2 component epoxy putty). The grip really looks like crap, but it shoots like a dream. The two major areas that have helped me are: 1- A big strip of epoxy on the backstrap, so the backstrap is further away from the trigger. I don't get the cramped finger, like George said. 2- A strip of epoxy on the left side of the grip, where it touches the backstrap. This gives my weak hand an enormous amout of support. Controlling the gun is much easier. IMHO, just make sure the grip fills your hand. Leave no areas of the hand not in contact with the gun.
  18. Ron congratulations. Yes, reloading is definately a basic revolver skill. Nevertheless, if you can make master with a revolver (,even with only one reload), that still means you can kick serious ass with it. Way to go.

    Mime At The Zoo

Ah, yes, I see. I knew I saw that whole picture somewhere before. Thanks for reminding
  20. (insert Chris Farley voice) Congratulations.....Steve

    Mime At The Zoo

I somehow thought the joke would end with the mime "mating" with a (male) Gorilla, but this is pretty funny too
  22. Another vote for "try-as-many-as-you-can". I have two 5" 625's. I like them, but they're the only revolvers I have, so I cannot compare them to anything. The thing I like about guns with a longer sight radius, is that you can choose a sight picture you like. If you choose a gun with a short radius, you must have sights that produce a really tight sight picture (the front sight must fit the notch of the rear sight pretty tight) to make those hard shots.
