  1. Vanilla Sky had me depressed for about a week. The original spanish movie seems to be even worse. My brother saw it and told me that if the Hollywood version depressed me, I should definately stay away from the original. Strange though, that movie depressed me, but would definately be in my all time top list of movies.
  2. I was over at the parkcitiestactical site and someone there claims that the p7 is not ipsc legal from the box, cause the trigger is not 5lbs. (3-4 lbs.) Now, I was wondering why someone would put a gun in the approved list, that needs tuning to make the trigger heavier. Also, doesn't the sqeeze cocker count as trigger pull?
  3. I think it's almost always beneficial if you reload on the move instead of doing a static reload, even if it means you will have to do one extra. You have to move anyhow, so learn to do your reloads while moving top speed. On the other hand, Flex is right in that revo shooters can't count. I don't know any revo shooters that never went BANG BANG click....Damn!! reload BANG to finish the stage. But that has nothing to do with tactics. They just can't count:)
  4. Man, looks like you guys already named all my favorites. Scariest movies: The exorcist. Event Horizon. The Shining. (The "Ernest" movies are pretty scary too, though) Best scary movies: Alien series. Night of the living dead.
  5. I personally don't give a hoot about how revolver friendly stages are. When I look at a stage, I know in advance I will have to do more reloads than the guy with the open gun. I think it's a bit strange to design "revolver friendly"stages. First off, that takes the little practical stuff that's left in this sport out, and second, everybody has to deal with the same problem. I think they should have three IPSC classes. 1) Open: Everything allowed (or just the way it is now). 2) Standard. The way it is now, but with a roud limit. Like Lim10 (which we don't have here in Europe), to make it a little less 1911 and glock class. Also, drop the .40 for major rule. It sucks. And this will make it more suitable for production guns as well. 3) Revolver. Hey, I shoot it. Biased, I know. For all three classes: drop the major pf to 145, so everyone can shoot the same pf easily. If you want to make this sport bigger, you have to place people in the postion to immediately participate, without placing them in some kind of "beginner-class".

well, I guess I don't have that problem Shooting a revolver sometimes has it's advantages. CU Bjorn
  7. for holders, use california competition works holders. they're very fast. I think Jerry Miculek uses them too. They can be ordered at Dillon.
  8. S40, I'd go with the beretta then. If you just do some work on the internals, you can also shoot IPSC with it (in case you want to go to the World Shoot or something). The G34 has a barrel that's too long for IPSC pro. I posted a question some time ago about DA/SA vs. Glock/XD triggers and I still can't decide. They both have pros and cons(just like everything else out there). I'd go with the beretta if the deal is good, especially if you don't like Glock. I know I don't like the USP's very much and I TRIED to like them. I've been an HK fan since I bought my P7M13, which by the way would be my pick for USPSA as the "ultimate" production gun, but it's expensive though. I find the bore axis of the USP just way too high for a polymer gun. It's too light down below to compensate. Plus, like you said, the trigger sucks (can be fixed). Empirical evidence is tricky. All kinds of guns win and lose and everything has positive as well as negative sides. If you can handle crappy triggers and snappy recoil, the USP would be the way to go. If you can't handle the DA to SA shot, go with a Glock, XD or P7. Etc.etc. It all depends on YOUR capabilities.
  9. Well, it seems like you've already made your choice Just a question: Why narrow it down to just these four completely different guns? Why rule out Sig sauer for instance? I wouldn't go for Glock if you don't like yours now. Over here in Europe people buy Glocks for there capacity. You're shooting USPSA right, not IPSC? So capacity doesn't matter. As long as the mag holds ten, it's fine. Go for the gun that: 1-Is 100% reliable 2-You like the best. It might sound obvious, but pick the gun that you like(By that I mean: the gun you can shoot the best). I can't shoot 1911's very good. That doesn't mean they're not great guns. They're just not that good for me. Try the guns youself. How you handle the gun is what counts. Not what someone else says about a gun. Good luck
  10. Holy snikes, 1000 rnds a day. Gee, I wonder who's gonna win the World Shoot this year I Checked the movies Julien. They make me glad I shoot revolver & production so I won't have to face you.
  11. 3Quarter, His time was 3.99 and all A's. He is only part human though.
  12. It has to be all black, notch and post, there has to be some light around the FS, I don't really care about the rest. Some say that if the FS has to little light around it it's bad, but I don't buy that. If you have a good index, you won't have any trouble. Besides, it's easy to get caught thinking that you have a good sight picture when you have a really thin FS and a very wide notch, but it's also more difficult to see if the FS is "in the middle". It's sort of like C-more vs. Aimpoint. With the c-more you definately need to be able to index correctly. I currently shoot a serrated Ramp and find it disturbingly reflecting light only in very few situations. As a matter of fact, I find it less disturbing than shooting all black "non reflecting" sights when I'm shooting in low light situations.
  13. Vince, What kind of gun are we talking about? That also depends. If you're dealing with a gun like the P7M13 which hold 13+1 I would run it dry before I reload, because there's no difference in speed. I ask you this because I know you like production class and there are only a few guns allowed that hold 13 rounds (and the P7 is one of them). If you have a gun with a conventional slide stop, ditto on what Flexmoney says.
  14. Hi Julien, A friend of mine shot La Tremblade (he posts here sometimes too). I heard it was a great atmosphere, but the match itself kinda sucked. I saw the results, but you did great man. I recall seeing you number 1 on some of the stages (against Eric). That's cool. I hope to shoot it next year (in revolver class. Do I have to face your brother then?). DVC Bjorn
  15. So I guess Steeleye could buy a 34 in 9mm (new model with the 35 frame) and put in a .40 barrel? This would be the cheapest option.

John, because of the WWII, I now have one brother, my parents and that's it. My parents are from the war and the rest of my family was killed, so I would very much appreciate it if you would not think of me as being demeaning to anyone who died fighting in WWII. Also, what I say about Bush, I base on his own speeches i get from CNN, which is broadcasted here 24/7. EricW, I'm glad you responded in constructive way. I'm not really out for a debate here, but I must admit that I felt a little offended by your first post. I'm sure that you didn't mean to offend me. I agree on the Bush surrounding himself with intelligent people part. I think people like Powell are great politicians. It's just that I get so tired of the constant criticism of people from one system on (people from)other systems. Sometimes it just looks like there's no room for self reflection. But then again, I agree with you that there's always the damned if you do, damned if you don't on the US (and other systems for that matter). Also, I think that you asked a very interesting question: "Do the ends justify the means?". I honestly do not think one can predict the ends, plus it depends on the situation. Well, I could talk/write about this for hours, but I guess that this is not the right place for that. What, I was just trying to say (and admittedly felt offended about) is that you make it look like you feel the US is "all that" and Europe completely sucks (including all the people in it). All the countries in Europe are so different and so are the people. It's united, but not like the States. I just want to say that I felt offended by your post and should have seen it was a rant, because I think my reaction to your post was probably as harsh as your initial post. For that I'm sorry, because I didn't want to offend you in the same way that I felt offended. Bjorn

OK, this might sound strange, because I have previously posted a big rant about dutch gun laws, but now I think they're actually OK. Peter, I too think that people create stupid rules to "control" gun use. For instance: the ten round mag rule in the US. It's totally stupid. Like you can't kill anyone with ten rounds. Or the fact that in Germany you can't shoot walking during an IPSC course. What a bunch of crap. Where does that help. Now I do not believe in giving arms to anyone. I mean in the US it's just way too easy for the wrong persons to get their hands on them. But guess what: that goes for every country. I think the law in the Netherlands on guns is pretty neat. You can't have them if you have ever been convicted for any serious crimes. You can have them at 18 and after you have been member of an official shooting club. All guns are registered of course. Furtermore, you have to shoot at least twelve to 35 times a year, depending on how many guns you have. You can have 5 guns max. (which is a rule that sucks at times, but OTOH will keep me from going broke on all those cool blasters). But still there's a great amount of illegal guns going around in our country. But the rules give a good monitoring ability of the legal gun owners and their guns. This way you can show that there's noting wrong with legal gun ownership. Fortunately, since you have to be really serious about guns to own one legally, no one has EVER been murdered with a legal gun in Holland. And EricW, I'm really sorry to say so, but with Bush as the leader of your country, I would be a little more hesitant about speaking of the European leaders as "morons". By that I mean Bush is the epitome of a classical moron. He doesn't give a hoot about other countries, and only interferes when the chance exists that the US (or he personally) will be hurt (e.g. not signing the Kyoto treaty). But that's OK. This has been in the nature of US foreign politics for about a century (in relationship to Europe). That's the reason America did not join WWII after attacks on them. Before that and after the turnaround at the Eastern front, where were they? Another nice example is the fact that I always hear people claim that it was the US who liberated Europe (and thereby me). Fact is Holland was liberated by the Canadians, I'm only 23 so haven't been liberated by anyone and if you're really that eager to thank only one group for liberating Europe, then let that be the Russians, for more than 20,000,000 of them were killed during WWII in their attempt of liberating Europe. I think Europe isn't that bad when compared to other areas in the world like the US. And I think every system has it's own freedoms. The only problem is people not seeing that. Everyone always claims their system is the best and will try to force that on the rest of the world. Unfortunately this goes for most systems (including the US "free" system). You might not get a very developed social system. What I don't get is people rotting away in the streets. People with children, and the people standing over them telling them to either get a job or die. I don't get the fact that you can actually worship Hitler in some countries. I don't understand that it is legal to call people names because of their skincolour or religion. I don't understand that you call your country free when a lot of people who live there will seriously disagree with you. Tell me what freedom is, and I will find a person who will tell you that it's not. (Edited by spook at 12:33 pm on June 7, 2002)
  20. Well, I think shooting different divisions, or different shooting sports for that matter will open you up a little so you can use things from one division/sport, in another. I shoot some static disciplines (bullseye type) with a .22. I shoot IPSC revolver. And I shoot steel with a 9mm. Thinking that you can only do one thing to keep it simple and focused will in the end probably cause you to go mad over nothing, as you will narrow everything down to that one thing. But remember that even the top guys can shoot anything (and they do). Did you ever see Eric Grauffel shoot a standard gun? He could win the world shoot in that division too.
  21. I'm with Carlos. That guy has probably spent much time watching Steven Seagal movies. Now as cool as he might be, I always wondered how he managed to keep all of his fingers. But then again, I also wondered how people can actually hear what he is saying, when he is whispering in the middle of a gunfight on a moving train.
  22. Ron, Jerry reloads in about 1.4 seconds. Now that is about as fast as a revo reload can get. My fastest reload so far has been under 2 seconds, but not much. I think somewhere arond 1.8/1.9. That is using the traditional method. The trick for me is to open the cylinder and kinda like simultaneously use my thumb to operate the rod. This really speeds things up. Some people use the palm of their hand to operate the rod (no jokes please ), but the danger here is that you try to knock the rounds out too hard and thereby use too much force and motion. Second, it hurts the thinner skin in the palm of your hand. As far as cylinder spin goes, once you opened up the cylinder, you can use your index finger to hold it in place (at least, that is if you hase E.T. fingers like I do, otherwise you would have to shift your grip).
  23. Kaiserb, ditto on what intel6 said. These are the two ways that are used. I found that the first method doesn't work well if your revolver has a rubber grip. First of all, the moonclip/cases tend to friction against the rubber, which sometimes leaves them kinda like laying on the grip. Second, it is difficult to regrip the gun fast with a rubber grip, because if you grasp it, the friction disables you to make subtle changes in your grip. It's sticky. For the second method, I have a few pointers. First, pratice a lot. Second, In revolver reloading, I found relaxation is a key element. Whenever I tense up during a reload, I mess it up. You want to relax especially when the new clip goes to the cylinder. Relax the weak hand with the clip, and relax the strong hand with the gun. And look the clip into the chargeholes. Try not to move the gun around to much. Also try not to waste too much time by canting the gun forward too far. I see a lot of shooters do this. They unload, and then they point the barrel 90degrees towards the ground. Did I already mention you should practice this a lot. Don't practice so much you'll automatically reload after every shot or string, though. This might sound a bit stupid and obvious, but it's what happened to me recently during a match. I had spent so much time on my reloads, that I made two unneccesary reloads on the first stage of the match (they were fast though:))
  24. I shoot steel with an H&K P7M13 9mm. It's a freak gun and very, very, very accurate. I shoot IPSC revolver class with a S&W 625 .45ACP. I'd shoot production with my M13, but if you know how much the mags cost...Man, I couldn't torture the gun like that by dropping the mags in sand, or on concrete. Planning on standard/Limited class, but haven't figured out yet what to buy.
