  1. If you build your own I've come to really love my Gibbz side charger with extended handle. Since I'm short stroked and can't lock back it makes flag removal and loading way easier than my traditional charging handle. I've got a taccom recoil kit and their ramped 16in barrel. It's 100% reliable and will keep them in the A zone at 15 yards as fast as I can spam the trigger so no meaningful dot bounce.
  2. Same here. I'd like dot with a shorter body but ended up with the cmore because of the larger glass.
  3. What mags and springs were you using when you had the malfunction? I had similar issues while experimenting bolt travel, buffers, springs and bolts. Once I found the setup that shot to my liking I had to match my mag springs to the timing.
  4. I have intermittent problems with Taylor Freelance. I've followed the instructions and beveled as required. Occasionally when loading 39+ the rounds push out the mag walls and bind against each other at the bottom of the mag. I'm using glock metal lined mags. Of course they run fine until the biggest field course of a match. If I stay at 37 they've run fine.
  5. I've had most of the timers but recently picked up the Shotmaxx v2 for its adjustable sensitivity and volume. So far it has worked well picking up both airsoft and live fire. Beep volume also very adjustable with several different frequencies of beep. I hesitated to buy it reading about the v1 problems but v2 seems to be fine,
  6. I've only been at the PCC hard for a few months but I'm seeing rapid improvement in the basic skills like mag changes. I think, overall, PCC has a huge advantage during classifiers since we don't have to turn, shoot one handed, or draw from the holster. Because we don't perform the classifiers the same as the other divisions we need our own hit factors or we'll all be classified much higher than we can perform during a match.
  7. I'm at about 12k on my JP firing pin. I look forward to learning what you hear from JP.
  8. It sounds like we are pretty much in agreement. At our club we see a majority of hoser stages with only the occasional distance shot. On the distance stages the PCC really shines. I think PCC really needs its own classifier percentages. On classifiers where we aren't having to turn or shoot with only one hand It's definitely an advantage.
  9. Interesting results. For the sake of conversation my observations are a little different. We average 50-60 shooters with 4-5 M/GM depending on who shows up. Typically the same people are in the hunt for HOA regardless of what they shoot. At this weekend's match, out of 68 shooters PCC finished: 2nd 23rd 31 32 33 62nd 63rd In my humble opinion the only platform with a clear advantage is Open. Is has the dot and scores major. The PCC helps me when the shots are 20+ yards for stability and trigger control. Inside of 20 yards the bonus, for me, is the dot not the rifle platform. Its 3 feet long, 8lbs loaded, and scores minor. And, the majority of targets are well inside 20 yards. As far as mag changes, I really think it depends on skill level not platform. Of the A and better shooters I know they don't really consider mag changes an issue as long as there is a little movement between positions. So the question is why, on the average USPSA stage, does the PCC help some people and hinder others? Aside from the dot which Open and Carry Optics have I think the PCC helps some people with their trigger control. Of course, as trigger control skill increases the benefit of the rifle platform lessens and some of its negatives creep in. I hope my comments are not perceived as argumentative. I really enjoy the PCC vs ______ conversation and intend it to be light-hearted.
  10. I have this conversation all the time with people who think the PCC is always an advantage. I'm Limited M and started shooting PCC exclusively about 4 months ago. Like Eric said above, its all about the stage design. Close targets with a lot of swinging back and forth or ports and I'll take the pistol every time. Distance targets with fewer setups and PCC wins.
  11. Glad to hear yours runs well. I've been thinking about picking one up for the occasional super high round count outlaw match. I usually run Taylor Freelance, can you say how the drum feels compared to the 40rnd mag/extensions?
  12. I have the SMART model. The video quality is good. I didn't mind the smaller FOV. My problem was that you have keep your head all the way up. I tuck my head in (turtle) so I was only filming my forearms.
  13. My 16" PCC is so quiet that I've had to reshoot stages at every match because the timer doesn't pick it up. I've shot 8 matches with it at 3 different clubs. So, I'd be interested in some kind of side porting comp that would make it louder but I don't want to add another 2" to a 16" barrel. If I found a reasonably priced 14.5" I could pin a comp on I'd buy it.
  14. I've tried it a bit. I found that on those extreme weak hand, off balance positions it may be viable but it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped. Putting the laser on the target while leaning out weak hand isn't as easy as I'd thought it would be. Tracking the laser is much harder than your dot or sights as well. But, I'm finding that my weak hand shooting is coming along much faster than I thought it would and it won't be long before I can transition to weak hand 10 yards and in with little drop off in speeed/accuracy so I'm not going to spend any more time on the laser.
  15. What is it about the 16" that you prefer?
  16. 95% of the time barrel length doesn't matter to me but I shot a match last weekend where the walls were so close on some of the stages it felt like I was in a phonebooth. Definitely could've used an SBR.
  17. I've got about 5000 rounds on my JP bolt/pin in the last few months with no problem.
  18. I thought SBR was going to be a must when I started building my PCC but after a couple months practice with a 16" I'm not feeling held back by the barrel length. But, once PCC two gun matches develop I may want to SBR just to keep my loads the same.
  19. I'd like to see a lower that takes 2011 mags as well. I think PCC two gun is around the corner and I hate glock triggers.
  20. I've been surprised at the number of clubs I'm hearing of that are balking at PCC. I just don't understand why. I can't imagine a USPSA match director wouldn't have the experience to understand the lower velocities of PCCs. I'm fortunate that my local club is enthusiastic about PCC.
  21. I'm starting a second PCC and have seen numerous builds using the PSA glock lowers and other manufacturers uppers. Looking on the PSA website they indicate that their lowers only work with their hybrid uppers. Is this incorrect or is there an easy workaround. I appreciate your thoughts. Shepard
  22. Spent the whole day shooting, reloading and airsofting. Awesome! I did, however, break my front sight and my back up gun is out of pocket getting some finish work done. I thought I might make it through the first match without my backup but the Matrix was paying attention and got me. Ordinarily I’d have a couple extras but I’m not restocked on everything yet. Hope I can get a replacement by the weekend but if not there’s enough blade to get by. All drills were close up, sight tracking sorta stuff today. Bill Drills, El Pres, Golden Bullet Standards classifier, Times Two classifier, etc. I threw in the Golden Bullets Standards 1) its close up tracking and 2) so I could do strong hand and weak hand shooting and transitions just to be safer since I haven’t done them in so long. I did Times Two just to work coming in fast to the shooting position. For me, I feel like tracking the sights is the numero uno priority. I don’t even care how accurately I’m shooting right now. Transitions may be where the game is won or lost but tracking the sights and calling the shots is the limiting factor. I wish I’d known that starting out. I’d have saved a ton of time trying to do super fast draws and reloads. Tomorrow I plan to Bill Drill the berm for a few hundred rounds. I’ll finish off with some fun accuracy shooting for confidence. I built a barricade yesterday and set up Works For Me classifier at home to airsoft and get a little off balance/around barricade work in. I love me some airsoft. I got lucky and found a .177 steel BB blowback airsoft that will shoot an inch group at 45 feet (yes, 1" inch at 45'.) I use the steel BB airsoft because I practice outside and the steel BBs don’t get pushed around by the wind. The steel will also penetrate cardboard and dent a 16 gauge popper at 15 yards. 6 days and a wake up till my first match in 10 years! Woohoo!
  23. I have the same issue with dryfire. I use airsoft to keep me honest.
  24. Live fire day. Had to take the wife in early for a root canal so I didn’t get to do my morning dryfire. After bringing her back from the dentist I snuck out to the range while she slept off the dentist drugs. I started out with 20 yard groups. Its been so long since I shot that I figure I need all the accuracy work I can get. Surprisingly, groups were tighter than I thought they’d be this soon. It was mentally relaxing and after letting go of the tension around my eyes and in my hands it went well. After groups I worked on 25 yard A-zone zebra targets. I’m taking one step forward and bringing my trail foot up. I’m not ready for wide-open-to-brake for 25 yard zebras but I did want the element of coming into the target to be a part of the drill. This didn’t go as well as I’d like. I think subconsciously I was trying to break the first shot as my trail foot came down and was missing the A zone by a couple inches to the right. Frustrating. Next time out I’ll make this a one shot drill and focus on making that first shot. Next up were the 10 yard, 6 shot bill drills. The first run was fast with all As. I tracked the sights perfectly. Woohoo! I’m back! Whatever. I should’ve left then. Instead I made the mistake of chasing that run. Pushed a little harder, tried to squeeze a little faster. Of course I was slower, saw less, and hit less. For the rest of the Bill Drills I couldn’t mentally get out of my own way. I was irritated for pushing too hard when I knew better and frustrated that I couldn’t let it go and stop being irritated with myself. Whether I want to be or not I’m rushing myself to get my skills back. Like we all know the mental component of this game is the real skill that has to be mastered. Changing to El Pres must have helped clear my head. The first few runs went pretty well. My mag changes were a little clunky though, I’m still reloading down around my sternum. I want to bring those mag changes up. I’m too caught up in the run sequence to mentally change gears and make my mag changes up in the new position. So, I’ll start working just mag change drills into my live fire sessions. I finished out with 20 yard plate racks at a casual pace. This turned out to be just what I needed to end on a good note. I’ll work on 25 yards next time. Just in my opinion, when you can confidently clean a 25 yard plate rack you can pretty much hit what you need to hit at a USPSA match. Hmmm, that “was” 10 years ago. Just watch, my first match back will start out on a 50 yard texas star :-) 8 days and a wake up till my first match in 10 years! Woohoo!
