  1. I have a 5.25, a 4.5 that Rich did as my backup and a limited gun of CC - you will be happy - not just now but for a long time to come - never any troubles last year in 30 matches and this year it continues.
  2. Well it starts with do you like the XDM -?? if that is the case you will probably love this gun. I started with an XD tactical in production and then went to CZ - good gun just not into the initial DA shooting and the manual decock. Enter the 5.25 - back home again. I like XD's (have six) and this is the best of them all. If you are serious and have the $$ get it from a custom shop like Canyon Creek - have both my main and backup done there and have had zero problems through 30 matches last year - reliable, accurate and well balanced. Seeing more and more of them at matches - Glocks still rule in production but this gun is coming on strong (if you can find one. Check out Canyon Creek, Powder River or Springer Precision - all do a great job and all are shooters helping shooters. Go for it and have fun.
  3. Rich has this front sight thing where he has a special base that fills the entire dovetail - as all said - let him do it- he is the XD zen master and the trigger - best many have seen.
  4. Actually none of them worked well enough alone to work with my XDM mags which is bigger - I forget which one but all were not tight enough. Saw a guy with the same rig and he had put washers behind the insert which I then did and it is perfect - maybe for the regular XD you will need two - work with it but I have six pouches that work great. I did another rig together where the belt loop on the pouch was too much to put together so got a tech loc (blade tech) and attached it to the Versa pouch. Works slick. Good luck in your journey for the perfect pouch.
  5. The XDM mags are bigger but with the Blade Tech ability to adjust you can have them fit - did that for a couple of years - use the versa pouches now that work pretty good.
  6. Wow that was fast - that's why I like this forum so much - thank you - looks like I may have a project fallback in my future - hopefully I won't have to but .....
  7. Is there anyone out there with some mechanical skills who can make 10 round xdm mags? I can get 10 round for my xd tactical but right now if we go to the 10 round bit in MN I will have a couple K 5.25 custom guns that will be out of the game for competition - that is if the 10 round limit comes in which hopefully it won't. Don't think Springfield will do it - if they didn't for California sure won't happen here - so anyone up to making some??
  8. seems to I was surprised that it was what SA recommended - thought the same thing but like i said before it works
  9. I did one with them and it was the .225 - just looked at it and cost is about $39. Says for fixed rear but adjustable can take care of that. I got that info from Springfield Armory when they would not sell me the old front off their stock. https://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=80000D02-1278688015 is the link that will take your there. Shot 30 matches with it and seemed to hit ok.
  10. There is personality, class and character. The final one overides the other three I think. A couple of years ago at an area match there was a guy on my squad who DQ'd on the 7th shot (shot not target) and was done on a 14 stage match. He had driven 400+ miles to get there, paid I think $150, two nights hotel, think his wife took off work to come watch him shoot and he was done after 7 shots). Not Max or Jerry but maybe a B class older shooter and fair experience. Personality this guy is a competor - He probably went through all those emotions. The squad tried to comfort him and maybe it helped but I saw him leave the bay and head for his car. ahhh class? Well about five minutes later he came back with his auto paster, more water and anothr chair to use during active fire. I could tell he wasn't happy but he had to class to know what his part of the squad completely was - not just to drive 400 miles to shoot. That man stayed the whole two days, pasted, ran for water, helped load mags and was there just as long as any of us. That is character - doing things when sometimes you even don't want to. This is just my take but it sure impresed the hell out of me. I shook his hand, told his wife what a great husband she had and why ... and the next time I (do to me and nobody else) DQ, I remembered that - after the five minutes of personality and felt that much better about sticking around and being a total member of the squad. It's all good, maybe even when you only get to shoot 7 shots.
  11. To those that don't know the series here is the order of publication. The last two are prequils that I never did like since you already know who won't get killed in the one you are reading. The first book Term Limits does not have Mitch Rapp but sets the stage for him to come. † Term Limits (1997) - ISBN 0-671-02317-9 Transfer of Power (1999) - ISBN 0-671-02319-5 The Third Option (2000) - ISBN 0-671-04731-0 Separation of Power (2001) - ISBN 0-671-04733-7 Executive Power (2003) - ISBN 0-7434-5395-6 Memorial Day (2004) - ISBN 0-7434-5397-2 Consent to Kill (2005) - ISBN 0-7432-7036-3 Act of Treason (2006) - ISBN 0-7432-7037-1 Protect and Defend (2007) - ISBN 978-0-7432-7041-0 Extreme Measures (2008) - ISBN 0-7432-7042-8 Pursuit of Honor (novel) (2009) - ISBN 978-1-4165-9516-8 American Assassin (2010) - ISBN 978-1-4165-9518-2 Kill Shot (2012) - ISBN 978-1-4165-9520-5 The Last Man - ISBN 978-1-4165-9521-2 I agree with the others - great read and someone you wish really did exist. With our current state of affairs Mitch Rapp would be head of the speech club, carry a smart phone and be afraid of guns. If someone hits him he bows and appologizes for his face hurting your hand...... Just started the latest Clancy book where Jack Ryan is back in the white house - last book before that reminded me of now - sad to read except for the fact that it is a book and you know we win in the end, not the case now with BO BO in the drivers seat.
  12. I have the Canyon Creek on two guns my 525 that I use in production and the backup for it that I had Rich work on. Shot 30 matches, some in both wet and hot weather and while others things may have presented challenges, the grip was never in question. Have tried stippled guns and tape but nothing is as good as this - with the warning that this is a very agressive grip and you will feel it - feel but not drop. If you want to see what it looks like go to the web site and you will get a glance.
  13. Don't get the take first then put last into the first deal. Why not take the last to begin with. I have mags numbered - mag 6 has the 11 in - that is six pouches and this is the last one. As one person mentioned have it either numbered or different colored base plate/slam pad. The one time you have to be careful is with an unloaded stage - did that one time and got moved up to open. Otherwise system works easier that the mag swap, pocket pick etc. Just my system though.
  14. I am using Dillon fiber front .125 with .225 hgt. Did spot on with my 5.25 throughout the whole season. Rear was stock
  15. I have the 9 mm flavor and have used it in about 30 matches without a flinch whatsoever. The trigger is great, the accuracy is only a problem due to the shooter and no problems have occured at all. Rich is the master on this total gun and you will not be disappointed. I have two of his guns as well as had my backup for production done there. There are other places that do good work but in my mind at least he is the best at the total end product.
  16. If you want the Cadillac go to Canyon Creek and Rich. He sells complete gun with his own enhancements and yes, it is not cheap but you get one fantastic gun. Can find on his web site www.shop.canyoncreekcustom.com In looking at his site it seems that 9 mm are backordered but don't know how long that will be - give him a call and you might find there is one on the way.
  17. I have three guns done by Rich - others can do triggers, Rich is the Zen master of doing guns. I cannot speak for the other big two (SA did my trigger on my XD Tactical and it is ok) but Rich is the most aware and the place - the only place I would go. That being said, with the change in USPSA on trigger pull, I may have to shell out more $$ to go from 2.5 t0 3.0 after the first of the year since the rule changes on initial pull. Still waiting to see how all that comes about and then how much it will cost me.
  18. I have the 4P Canyon Creek gun and at Area 5 it came in at 31 even - right on the legal number for productin weight. Maybe cutting it a bit close but Rich is the Zen master and knows what he is doing - trust his work.
  19. The problem is the XD(M) line is a pretty good gun but run by a sucky business model at times. If it fits within their view you get pretty good service and a good outcome. On the other hand, they are completely inflexible in their policy with customers and that is it. Case in point, I had my gun custom done and wanted to swap out the sight for the one that came originally with it. Called customer service and was told flat no at any cost. Bet you have a whole box of them in the back room - yes I was told but we won't sell you one. After some prodding I go them to tell me that maybe Dawson would have something. I asked what model number or what size. At that the agent put me on hold, went to the smith and came back with a number. I can understand the need for quality control but the OP is right, we are in the middle of the competition season and one cannot have their primary gun tied up for a few weeks by sending it in. But if you want to use this gun (which I do) those are the rules you have to play with. Not all that complicated. Good luck with your quest, may your gun never break and then no problem anyway......
  20. What is the difference between the $88 and the$178 that is on back order?
  21. Not even sure who you are, but you sold me. Call Canyon Creek for your commission! I got the 4P and then sent in my 4.5 as well for backup gun with the trigger, grip and sights. In my mind CC is the best because Rich does the whole gun the way a custom race car comes out of stock. I like XD's anyway (own six of them) but this makes it even better, trigger, balance and accuracy. Not to put down the others. Have had good experience with SA, SP and PR on various business, but in to me CC is king.
  22. Maybe not the voice of god (John A) but at least someone who talks to him on a regular basis. Thanks Rich
  23. I have the whole 4p 5.25 from CC which includes the grip. Rich says production legal so it must be so. I trust him since he is not just a smith but a shooter too. On the grip, it is very aggressive so no for the person with sensitive hands.
  24. Another vote for the over the bed technique. I have back problems so bending over on any service gets tough at times. With the bed, the mag is within reach, on a soft surface and works out well, and heck, if you practice long and hard you can easily take a nap.....
