  1. In the mean time, here's the link to the album.STI GP6 disassembly And for those registered, the link to the CGN page. CGN GP6 link
  2. Registering was challenging! "What is the name of Ottawa NHL team(in word)" "What is the first alphabet of the last name of the current Prime Minister of Canada?" A search for "GP6" only returned 2 threads... Can you show me where you posted it? Thanks a lot! Sorry guys. CGN is a rather large forum, and the owner has somewhat deliberately crippled the search engine. Between battling spambots and trying not to give the anti's a free ride for research, we sometimes screw ourselves. The best way to find my post there is to search under my user name in the pistol catagory and be sure to set the time for the search to 3 years. I'll see if I can find it and post a link. Oh crap!!! I changed the way I had my pictures orginized in my photobucket account. Now all the picture links are toast. I'll see what I can do to fix it.
  3. Grand Power did ship a version with an LPA rear sight, using the existing dovetail. The problem was it was too high and didn't look right. My suspicion is the Eliason was picked because those slides could be machined from existing dovetailed slides. To ship them with a Bomar sight might require a bigger commitment. I think the value added to the gun as a package would drive sales and quickly offset any added manufacturing costs.
  4. It's closer to what the Production guys need. I still want them to get rid of the craptastic Eliason rear sight and get a Bomar style rear. Better contoured and wider safety levers would be nice as well. Recent pictures posted Jaroslav Kuracina, the owner of Grand Power seem to suggest while there has been some profound silence from STI recently, they are working on new models.
  5. I just wasted 15 minutes trying to recreate a photo tutorial. I have one already posted but it'son www.canadiangunnutz.com and you need to register to view it. Here's a link to the album. My link
  6. Only once have I ever had to DQ a guy and regretted doing so. Not because the guy hadn't earned it, but because it was a predictable result of the courses design. It was a moving vehicle stage. The shooter was perched at the back of a pickup truck dressed up as a half track. The stage was fixed time, (the driver simply steered the course foot off the gas at idle). The problem was the course was a serpentine path. The targets were shot as they appeared, and naturally shooters would scan in the path of the curve. Nobody anticipated the 6' 5" competitor locking his toes into the sandbags and anchoring his beltline to the tailgate. On the tightest curve, his muzzle was 15-20 degrees past the 180. nearly pointing at the safety table.
  7. It's stories like this that make me take stock of how it works in Canada. Here we have a course to take before we start shooting IPSC. I've waffled back and forth on if it's truly needed, since other corners of the universe seem to exist fine without it.
  8. I've been using the STI GP6 for a few years, and it's older brother, the GP K100 before that. I flat out love this gun and hope like heck that STI doesn't drop the line. The negatives are few. The issue sights are not perfect for IPSC. The available fiber optic front and Dynamic fixed (adjustable for windage) rear are much better. The bigger mag release is cheap and works well. The trigger is just simply awesome in SA, and really good in DA. The new Mk7 frame ought to mean a perfect fit for every hand. If you get the chance, try one. The recoil feel has to be experienced to be believed. If at all possible, shoot it back-to-back with your current 9mm. If STI does continue with the line, good things could be coming down the pike. Grand Power will be releasing the new .45 ACP version at the big arms show in Europe this month.
  9. Build your bench well, and it's not an issue. Mine is a doubled piece of 3/4 inch plywood.
  10. I work with building automation. I always wondered what the cost/payback would be to tie sidewalk heating in with the automation and heating plant. We spend a fortune on labour and ice melt salt to keep the sidewalks safe. It occurs to me that we could use heated sidewalks tied in to the automation to reduce our labour and liability costs. For a large public building in our area, we couldn't afford to heat the sidewalks for months at a time. However, our period of greatest risk outside is at a time when our boilers are at thier lowest demand. When the outside air temperature is close to freezing, we run the risk of snow turning to ice or rain turning to ice. Inside, the primary loop will be chugging along at 180F while the secondary loop will be running at a minimum setting. There's plenty of capacity to raise the sidewalk temperature to just above freezing. When the OAT is above freezing, or well below freezing, it's not a big deal.
  11. Yep, what he said. Don't run one without the shop vac running.
  12. There are ways to manage costs, and Brian Enos is great about steering you in the right direction.
  13. I think much of the angst over caliber changes with the 1050 has more to do with the cost. The full toolhead and powder measure plus conversion kit isn't cheap when compared to the 550 or 650.
  14. If you can afford it, buy the 1050. Switching calibers isn't hard, just expensive. It's still worth it. The simple solution is to find a load you like, then load lots!!!
  15. In my corner of the universe, not in the circumstance you describe. As for possession without an adult, not outside the home if under 18 (19 in Ontario). Consumption by minors inside the home with parental permission is ok, but largely frowned upon.
  16. Routine is important. Not simply with meds when required, but sleep and nurtition. I know some on this forum will go quietly mental at the thought of someone with a medical need arriving at the range with a drug in thier system. How many of those same people would be openly critical of a peer shooting after working a night shift? How about shooting while dehydrated or with low blood sugar because they haven't stopped to eat and drink anything in hours? At the end of the day, you need to know yourself.
  17. Perfect!! Thanks. That's exactly what I was hoping for.
  18. I'm trying to design a loading block for my .41 Magnum N Frame speedloaders. Rather than muff it up with poor measurements, I'll ask here. Does anyone have the proper dimentions to reference? I'm trying to find the center of each cylinder bore, it's distance from the center of the cylinder pin, and the distance from c-c across the cylinder. (I know, it's redundant but I like double checking. )
  19. Thanks, At least now I know. As much as this was a pain in the ass to discover, the backflips the seller went through to try and correct an honest mistake made my week.
  20. I bought a used shellplate for my 1050 for .41 Magnum. The cases fit nicely, off the press. I hadn't noticed until tried to install it and cycle a few cases, but the shellplate is different than my 9mm and .223 Rem plates. The .41 Mag shellplate is cut with the bottom of the plate open, not lipped beneath the rim. When installed on the press, there's no room for the case to feed into the shellplate.
  21. Yes they do. Checkout Global Village, as there was a link to a level III match in Chile last Dec.
  22. Way to go!! I started my journey at something north of 360lbs (I'm assuming 365) and 6' 2" I managed to shed 75 pounds in the first 6 months with just dietary changes. I'd hoped to add more exercise at the 6 month mark to keep from plateauing, but a heel injury sidelined that. Over the last year I've lost another 20 pounds, and the heel is in good enough shape to add more exercise to the program. Walking at first, then maybe some weights over the summer. I want to wind up closer to 225 in the end.
  23. Do you use gas checks over the powder? I Thought about trying to make a few with a gas check over the powder and card for the top wad. As for the Berrys bullet, I expect to play around a bit. Part of me wondersif I'll stabilize the bullet at only 800 fps or so.
  24. I'm playing with a S&W Model 58, and will be working up a load with 210g Berrys bullets. I'm looking to just make major for fun and giggles, not play Dirty Harry. I was looking on Hodgdon's website, as I usually have Clays and Clays Universal on hand. (As well as VV N320 and a bit of Herco) Since I'm loading to the bottom end of the available reloading data, I was thinking about starting with 4.0 gr of Clays, but invite opinion from the hive mind.
  25. Yes, it's a good thing for him as well in the grand scheme of things. He's gotten another promotion. Of course in the future, I'm sure the story could be spun a little differently. "I kicked in doors in Bagdad, and danced with the devil in Bagram. Still, no hardship there could compare to the year I spent in base housing at Ft. Leavenworth."
