  1. Outside of the US and USPSA rules, Production is largely "Shadow Division". CZ and CZesque designs set the tone. Yes, I'm trying very hard to showcase the Grand Power pistols as an option worth exploring, but the CZ guns didn't get to the top of the pile by selling bikini calendars.

I told my father once that until I was 12-13, he was the smartest man I knew. Then without explainantion, he lost his mind. For almost 8 years I could barely listen to the brain dead crap he seemed to babble. Fortunately at about 21, when I really needed to talk, he suddenly began to make sense.
  3. Order quick. Seven of them are spoken for. I'll try to post pictures of the custom factory engraving.
  4. I've never seen a GP hammer fail. The STI EDM'd hammers were a bit too hard in the first batch, but I believe the revised versions shipped or replaced work fine. http://s455.beta.photobucket.com/user/Canuck223/media/GP6/Grand%20Power/DSCF1685_zps0ee438b7.mp4.html As for disassembly, see above.
  5. I was raised to simple standards. Don't promise what you can't deliver. Deliver on your promises. Own your mistakes but learn from them. Risk your own ass, but mind you don't put another at risk. I'm a natural born cynic. I know in time, every man will fail. That doesn't make the man a failure. It makes him human. When he makes no effort to address the failure, it makes him shameless.
  6. If it will fit the CZ or the small frame Tanfoglio or EAA, it will work on the Grand Power. There is also a 20 round magazine available.
  7. I think Jaroslav was on his last vocal chord in the first video. My guess is after non-stop talk with the folks at the show, his voice was shot. Since the second video was shot, the new factory has been built and all the equipment moved.
  8. Yep, sometimes some products take a while to get some wind in the sails. Many recognized the CZ-75 as a decent design out of the box, but it took 25 years to really catch on in the US. If the X-Calibur takes longer to get approved, and Century import the K100 Target, give it a look. If Century are smart, they can offer the X-Calibur's trigger system as an upgrade. It won't fit in an older STI gun but should be a drop in to the newer Century Arms imports. (It requires a hole drilled in the frame insert and the ejector and side plate. In the new production guns, I believe they come with the hole already drilled.)
  9. I hadn't considered this. I was just discussing the idea of a custom barrel shroud with barricade wings for the Grand Power X-Calibur. I bounced an idea off a friend about using the accessory rail and slide stop pin, but wondered about torque. His reply stopped me in my tracks. A Bianchi gun prohibited. Wow.
  10. I tend to do most of my reloading during the winter, and have a couple of boys who need busy work during the poor weather. I buy once fired brass by the 5 gallon pail, and get the boys to sort it after it's cleaned.
  11. Most of the common problems have been highlighted, but let me go through my check list. Is the shellplate clean, lubed properly, tightened properly? Is the swager adjusted properly with the back up rod in place? Is the white tab at the priming station adjusted properly? Is the primer slide arm in the right position at the top and bottom of the toolheads travel? Is the primer slide clean? Is the primer magazine tube correct and the feed lips unmangled? Is the primer punch tip clean, square, and flush?
  12. I still carry a parts kit with me to matches. If something goes south, I like to know I can fix most items on sight. Still, I hate to trash a match fretting about what might happen, so to me a back up gun is just insurance. Sort of like the tupperware container I used to have in the trunk. Having a set of clean clothes and a dry jacket seemed to work magic. I never seemed to need them, but it was nice to know I was never driving home with a garbage bag over the seat...
  13. You'd have to speak with Century to see what thier plans are. As far as I know, the K100 Target should be legal for import already, but I have not heard if the newer X-Calibur has BATFE approval. If I read the points list, it should make enough points. The X-Calibur (or any of the other models) can be upgraded with the wide metal ambi safety when Grand Power get them into production. I asked recently about the new safety, and they were waiting on pre-production samples to be tested. If you are looking for a forward thumb rest like some of the Open guys like, that would have to be an aftermarket part I think. With the accessory rail and slide stop pin, I could see something like a Bianchi Shroud working.
  14. I'm buying a back-up for the gun I'm getting as part of the sponsorship. I'm also getting a seperate model that's already approved in the US for import, just to avoid headaches in the interim. I find the better prepared I am, the fewer problems I trip over....
  15. I thought a few behind the scenes pictures might be of interest. An IPSC shooter and professional photographer visited the old and new factories last month. "Photographs © 2012 Stephen Potts - www.stephenpotts.co.uk"
  16. Check the reloading forum for a more detailed answer, but yes it's normal, and yes, your's will look the same. The sizing die squeezes the case slightly below the regular chamber dimentions, so the reloaded ammo look a bit like the old Coke bottles.
  17. I got a reminder that sometimes, money isn't everything. I set up a meeting with a local manufacturer of shooting related products (Gun belts, range bags, gun rugs, brass bags, etc). The owner is an old friend and his main sales agent is a close friend. My pitch was simple. I was hoping to develop a package with his product branded with the guns logo. The premise was a package that the retailer could offer along with the gun and spare mags. The newbie buying an IPSC gun could buy one package plus his choice of holster and mag pouches. I missed two key points. 1) I didn't realize until too late that he didn't understand how a sponsored shooting team operates. He was thinking it was like a kids hockey team, shooting together instead of independantly. 2) The wider exposure it would bring was in effect unwelcome. He's at a point where the range gear line is a side line, and increased sales would be taking away from his core business. In the end, I couldn't bring him anything he would have truly valued, and taking anything under those conditions would have been selfish. Live and learn.
  18. Get back to me in a few years and we'll compare notes. Better yet, get back to me after you've run one back to back with a CZ for a few hundred rounds. I can't explain why STI did not have the upgraded front and rear sights available. They were available from the factory. I can't explain why STI didn't have the bigger mag button in the system, or why they discontinued the adjustable sight model. They were available from the factory. I can't explain why the magazines were priced on the high side. I won't divulge any trade secrets, but there is no reason for the mags to be retailing for more than $40 or $60 for the 20 rounders. I don't predict anyone taking a 5lb maul to thier CZ to rid themselves of the stink just because they found religion after trying the Grand Power. However, I think in time you may be surprised.
  19. After 3 years of completely trouble free operation, my Mr.BulletFeeder finally pooped the linen today. Bulets stopped feeding and the fuse blew when the shellplate became stuck. The cause was simple. The bullets I use seem to have residual lubricant. The shellplate was sticky enough that the bullets simply were not sliding down into the chute fast enough.
  20. If you want to upgrade the K100 with the X-Calibur hammer group, it's not a problem. It's just a matter of getting Century to order in the parts. Grand Power also make a variety of different sights, mag buttons, and have a new wider *thumb rest [generic]* style safety lever. Y'all just need to convince CAI that it's in thier best interests to import them.
  21. I had heard that the Dillon tumblers motor was a weak link, but I've never owned one. The only observation I can make in comparison to another brand comes via a friend. I use the Hornady M3 while a friend used the Dillon large tumbler. His comment was that you can carry on a conversation while my tumbler is running. His when loaded is pretty loud.
