    SKIPPING CHURCH

That was very good. Here is one that isn't so good. A man and his son were skipping church to go fishing. As they were backing the truck, loaded with fishing gear, and boat and trailer out of the driveway, the pastor out on his usual early morning walk stopped and said to the man, "You know where people go who fish on Sundays don't you?" The man just hung his head and didn't reply. The pastor went on. After the pastor got out of earshot, the man turned to his son and said, "Sure I know, but, I ain't going to tell him. The place gets crowded enough as it is!"
  2. Check the manuals, but if you have powder that you have been using for 12ga. target loads, you may find some applications for 45. There may be better powders available, but you could buy one new powder, use something you already have on hand, and do your own comparison. For me, that is part of the attraction of reloading; getting to do some of your own research within the parameters set by the recipes in the manuals. Good luck.
  3. I started at about age 31, shot for 5 years, then laid out several years and started back again about 3 years ago. Now all of the family competes including the wife. I wish I had my eyes from fifteen years ago.
  4. I don't clean my PII for 600 rounds or so. The reason I say that is I load in batches of 500-700 and when ammo runs low I load a batch, clean the gun, chamber check the new ammo and don't clean it again until I run out of ammo. I, and two of my sons have shot this gun in competition over the years, the only problem I have had is when the firing pin developed a burr of some sort. I had the slide back inside a week and a half from Les' shop. The only bad comment I have is that I have never cared for the big square thumb safety, and there is nothing wrong with it, just my personal preference. When first starting out, each boy would go through a time when they didn't get the mag seated all the way, usually at LMR. I can't blame the gun on that.
  5. I have owned a Premier II with the accuracy guarantee since the early 90's. (it has a low 200 serial number). It has been fired thousands upon thousands of rounds. It is still accurate, it has run with all bullet profiles, doesn't like running dirty but didn't need any break in to speak of. Just a note about running dirty, most loads were hard cast bullets loaded with 700X, not what I would call a clean load. I would expect the gun to run 500 to 600 rounds without a problem. In a major match I would probably check my gun, do a quick clean and lube every so often just as a matter of course.

    SEXY Meat

dude! bbq can be beef, pork, or chicken..never foul! know you meat son! He means fowl meat, not foul meat
  7. Lefthanders is the first Sunday of the month, but I just got an email that they won't be shooting this weekend, because the rain from Thursday has made the range too soft. They are located just west of Springfield, IL. Check out their website at www.lefthandersgunclub.com. I don't know of any others in my area about 2 1/2 hours north of St. Louis. Sorry. B
  8. Thanks. I should have looked it up myself.
  9. How many classifiers does a person need before USPSA will drop any that are 5% below the minimum score for his classification?
  10. Edit- I thought I had an explanation for you, but after looking up your scores, I don't have an explanation. Hopefully someone smarter that I am will chime in
  11. +1 on 700X. Started using it in 9mm minor because I had a keg left over from my trap shooting days. A double charge will definately overfill and spill.
  12. Tom, Sounds like a blast. My family and I will be there. Brian
  13. I shoot almost all matches with a 38 super single stack. I am a C class and my percentages would be higher if I shot major, no doubt. I choose to shoot minor because I like to shoot this particular gun. So, if you want to be the most competitive, "do as I say, not as I do." If you are a new competitor, major scoring or minor probably won't make much of a difference. As you progress, it will. If you are only going to have one single stack, and pocess a competitive nature, buy a major caliber gun. If I remember my math correctly, at the 2008 SSC, if I had shot major instead of minor, with the same hits and time, I would have finished about 4.5% better score, about 28 places higher.
  14. I've been using Shooting Star 38 super mags since way back when single stack 38 super "open" was new tech, and more recently in a standard 5 inch SS gun. I've never had a feed problem with either major or minor loads at book OAL. I try to keep mag springs changed regularly. I have, however, witnessed plenty of feeding issues with 9mm single stack guns.
  15. I would encourage you to get a couple of reloading manuals, Lyman, Speer, just to name a couple, and read the parts about how to adjust dies, and the whole reloading process. They have valuable loading tables in addition to great lessons on setting up your bench. Keep them handy every two years buy a new book from a different company.
  16. +1 for the CED 7000. I've had an older CED for about fifteen years, and it still is great, have used the 7000 and will be trading up soon.
  17. #1. My oldest, Navy Special Warfare Command, Log. & support unit, and his wife got here early am after a 17 hour drive. First time home in over a year. In addition to our other two sons who we do get to see more regular. #2. Got the Mrs. a S&W performance center 1911, she wants to shoot single stack and I don't want to share mine. #3. Caliber conversion and casefeed for my 650. All in all way more than I deserve.
  18. If you reload, or buy factory ammo, 9mm is much cheaper. You probably will end up spending your total ammo budget no matter what caliber you shoot, but, you will get more practice for the same money with 9mm. In addition, everything in production is scored as minor so there is no scoring advantage. Whatever platform you choose, welcome to the sport.

Nice piece. We need more publicity like this.
  20. I had most of a 12 lb. keg of 700X left when I quit shooting trap, and have used it for most medium performance handgun applications, such as 38 Spec., 45ACP, 9mm, and 38 Super minor, all with cast bullets. It can be a liitle smokey on humid mornings without much breeze. I don't think I would consider it for major in super. I would look up my loading notes and chrono results from my 5" 1911. Don't know how that would relate to revolver, but may be a place to start. PM me if you want the info.
  21. FOB, Welcome to the forum and the addiction! Most of my USPSA shooting has been done with a single stack 1911. I have never owned a Glock, but have shot them some. I can't seem to shoot the Glocks accurately. Not sure if it is grip size, angle, or the reach to the trigger. I think it would take me some serious practice time to get efficient with one, which probably won't happen for me. The XD that I have shot a few matches with in production was easier for me with no practice. So, I guess my experience with the results of Glock vs. XD would be similar to yours. That being said I have a 1911 that is very accurate, but when I shoot it, it feels like I am holding the wrong end of a baseball bat compared to the single stack I use for matches. Find a platform that feels comfortable, try to buy used to begin with and spend the money you save on ammo and practice. Good luck. B
  22. I'm getting into this late, but just wanted to give my .02 worth. I have had a a LB Prem II w/acc. guarantee since the mid 90's and I have never been disappointed. I have a custom build 1911 that I shoot more just because it fits me better. My wife just got a S&W per.ctr. 1911. We've only put 100 rounds or so through it, but seems to be worth the money, and she thinks it is "pretty". Any of these are heads above the Colt combat elite I started out with. Sounds like you know the features you are looking for. The pistol smiths guild might be a good place to get info about custom builds. Good luck with your quest.
  23. Noticed this for the first time when as a kid when I was finally able to afford a box of Winchester Super-X lubaloy coated 22's hollowpoints for squirrels. My friend and I were sighting the rifle in when he noticed he could see the bullets. We took turns and shot the whole box and had to mow another yard before we could go hunting.
  24. USPSA as a great family activity. I started competing in local USPSA by myself when my sons were very young. As they got older the family interests turned to karate, baseball, golf, wrestling, hunting, motorcycles, etc. We spent many hours and many weekends going to the boys events as a family. In the last two years my crew has decided USPSA is pretty cool, so now the wife and two youngest sons are competing. I coaxed the Mrs. into signing up for Kay's ladies camp and it really kept her interst high. She brought home pointers for us all. She liked shooting, but the instruction from the camp added some skill and got her to practice more. She just got a 1911 in 38 Super and will be stepping out of production into single stack division next spring. I have help create a monster. I hope you guys have as much fun shooting together as we do. It sure beats the heck out of golf!!! Now I have to go clean her guns
