  1. Any reason not to just use the 9mm that is used for every other steel target? Actually, yes ... The USPSA Rifle Rules, Appendix C1 spell out the calibration procedures for rifle targets. You must use a rifle. The calibration rifle and ammo must have a 150 PF (+/- 5%). Just like HG, the initial calibration must be from the furtherest distance in the CoF to the target. Just like HG, any challenge must be shot from as close to where the shooter shot it as possible. The problem is that the LaRue target has no specified calibration zone for the test. Hence it is more like a falling plate in that respect. ANY hit which does not knock it over is an automatic REF. (Rifle 4.3.1.6.) This is what led to the problem at the recent MG Nationals what we were told at the nationals was that uspsa considered the larue to be a plate, not a popper...therefore, no way to calibrate them. The first time I shot LaRue targets, I heard they were hard to knock down at distance with a 55gr. load unless it was loaded hot. This was about five years ago. I called the LaRue shop. I was told that a sensor in the target could be set so that any impact, any where on the face of the target would put it down. From time to time, shooting 3100 ft. a sec. 55gr. loads, I have hit them and they would not go down. Does this mean they were not set right?
  2. Not true. Most Wolf will make Power factor out of 18, 20 and most 16 inch barrels! Most of the blaster rds. I pick up after the unload and show clear when I RO don't even come close to the power factor. Just for fun, I chrono them.CHEATERS!! shooting unknown unload and show clear rounds is bad juju. I absolutely agree with you Outerlimits, but like the punk in Dirty Harry, I just gots to know! By the way, I enjoy reading your posts. Yours are some of the few that I pay attention to.

  4. Read this. Ordered one. Received it. PROBLEM! It is 1/3-16 in diameter. To big around to use in anything but open class. Screwed it on anyway to see if it worked as described. For me,"normal body, stance, grip," it moved sharply to the right. Funny thing, all very fast double taps at 35 yds were in the center. My timing, don,t know? Anyway, called them, they said they were working on a legal one for our game and would exchange it for the one I have. Take care.
  5. Please educate me on what the 20 gauge recoil spring does for you. Thanks
  6. Dean's match as usual, was fun and a challenge. The big difference in this match was NO RAIN! Good squad, everybody worked, the West Point cadets raced down and back to set steel for everyone on the 100yard stage. As usual, VERY nice young men! May God protect them! One problem. No par time on the long range stage. Thanks to all who made this match happen. Can,t wait for the next one!
  7. Trapr, Their are not many people for Eric to pick on because of his size! Take care.
  8. Is the 16" JP a middy or rifle length? How much softer shooting is a rifle length gas system than a middy? Side by side identical rifles except for the gas systems, trust me, you will choose the rifle gas gun! Take care.
  9. Most of the guns used in 3gun lately are 18 inch, rifle length gas. Why? Because they are very soft shooting and reliable! There is a lot of good information on this subject in recent posts. Read them carefully. As usual, some is B.S. and some is very good. Trust me, 18 inch, rifle gas=a nice system!
  10. Guys, I have described in the above post the absolute cure to make flippers consistent. If you do as I described, it is the end of the problem! PERIOD!
  11. Maybe STI guy, he can't afford a, in my opinion, an overrated and very expensive Benelli. They all malfunction from time to time. If it has not already, yours will too, then maybe someone will say to you, trade that POS.
  12. OH MY GOD! Say it aint so! A Benelli malfunction! I will have to mark this on my calender! Standard answer. Get a Remington or a winchester or a Mossberg or a Ithaca or how about a double barrel? Just kidding. Hope you get the problem solved. I know the feeling. Take care.
  13. Yes, talk to Sam Adams, He will take good care of you. Take care.
  14. Sorry, meant to add that the material that goes into the bottom of the bird is the same or similar to the existing square pad on the throwing arm pad. Take care.
  15. Ok, listen up, as I have the solution to the clay bird popper problem. Really! It has worked at our club for the past five years. #-1, Mount the popper on its own base, we used three 2x6 planks screwed together with 2x4-s. Extend the center plank so the clay bird pad is resting on it. This will give the bird the same exact launch every time! #-2, Make a round disc out of the same or similar material that will fit up into the underside of the claybird. Bolt it to the top of the square pad of the throwing arm. This holds the bird perfectly every time! Brace up the front or back of the planks to throw the bird foreword. backward or straight up, your choice. You do not have to stake the popper down. Launch is just about perfect every time, both height and where the bird goes. Drives me CRAZY to shoot matches where this problem has not been worked out. One shooter gets a straight up, 20 feet high bird, next shooter. ME, will get a 10 foot high bird that i have to shoot in self defense because it is coming right at me! Anyway, try it, you will like it. Take care.
  16. Sorry,I don't know, its been about five years since I bought the barrel. Take care
  17. Thanks, DMS. You've got me really interested in getting this project going again... any other nice, accurate, light- to mid-weight 16"/rifle gas barrels that you recommend? (I was also wondering if it would be wise to consider chrome-lined options, if there are any. Not sure how much that would affect accuracy, though.) Good luck with your new build, Revo... keep us posted! Xfactor, I have no experience with chrome lined barrels.I wonder about them myself. I got my light TTI barrel from the Yellow Tavern Custom Shoppe. Back then they were building guns for Eric Lund and other top guys. Trapper John is the guy to talk to. 1-877-884-4685. Take care
  18. Interesting... I've been looking around for a nice light 16" barrel, and I've been seriously considering going with rifle gas over middy. Does the TTI shoot pretty well? (MOA, or close?) How much softer do you think the rifle gas is than middy gas? Xfactor, When new,the TTI gave me 3 to 4 inch groups at 300 yds. Now after 10,000 rds. or so, it gives me 4 to 5 inches. This is pretty much with any ammo except Wolf. The difference between rifle and middy is not night and day but after shooting both, I would not even think about building a middy for myself. People that own a middy that have shot my guns say there next gun will be a rifle gas system. Do it! You will thank me! Take care
  19. The heavy barrel is a over the counter DPMS,the light is a TTI international ss. Both are original 16 inch.
  20. Can anyone tell me where I can find the results for the Conn. 3gun match. Thanks
  21. Revopop I have been running two 16 inch rifle length gas system guns in 3gun events for the past five years. One is a DPMS heavy barrel, the other light. I have had no ammo related problems including shooting lots of Wolf and other so called junk ammo! The heavy barrel is a tack driver, the light is ok. Both guns are stock except for a Benny Hill Rolling Thunder Comp, carbine spring, and buffer. Everyone that shoots either gun, comments on how soft they shoot. Oh yeah, both gas ports are .113. There is 3and1/2 inches from the gas port to the end of the barrel, not to the end of the comp. Hope this helped. Take care
  22. Thanks for the information. Looks like I made the right decision to not shoot. Shooting in a warm rain is one thing, but shooting in cold and wind is a different animal! Take care.
