  1. It's the whole "gotta have a dovetail machined into the slide" thing that's gonna stop most folks from getting one.
  2. I shot the Master's IDPA match in Birmingham in the rain this year...we waited around for a while to see if it would slack off before starting to shoot. I finally got bored and found a bay with SO's ready to go and asked if I could just shoot in the rain. I said, "My gun's rusting as we speak." (STI Trojan in 9mm) Sure enough when I pulled it out to LAMR there was already rust on the bare spots.
  3. I use the strong (right) hand thumb for the slide release on my Trojan. I have very large hands, though, and don't have to shift my grip at all to do it. It's also easier to transition back and forth between my SS and my Glocks since I do it this way with both.
  4. I had this happen after I fitted a Brown extended mag release in my Trojan. All it took to fix was Dremeling the left side of the relief cut. It sure was frustrating till I figgered out what was happening, then I smacked myself on the forehead.
  5. 5 down for every shot not in the prescribed scoring zone.
  6. Your son is too young for IDPA right now (age limit is 12), but it won't be too long before he's able to compete. Go ahead and shoot a match and take him along to watch and learn in the meantime.
  7. I use the WTS Sevigny Comp sights on the 34 I use for SSP and the 24 I use for Limited. I love them.
  8. Got bumped in ESP at the MS State Championship today. ESP- EX SSP- EX SSR- SS
  9. Thanks Rob! And those of us that come here for the info and the civility sure do appreciate the work of the moderators! Thanks Duane!
  10. ck1- my 9mm Trojan has been absolutely flawless. I use Tripp mags. I can't say enough good things about either the gun or the magazines.
  11. 0.1666 on my best run. I caught a 0.000 on one run, but I also had a 3.0 on the same one, so I didn't get to count it.
  12. I've never oiled the feedramp on any gun. You'll get buildup regardless.
  13. I'm just saying that this particular course of fire was designed to be different for every shooter, and each shooter knew that the threat/non-threats would change between shooters. The "course design" has not changed, only the layout (for lack of a better word). I'm not saying that the stage is legal, I'm just saying that the illegality is not due to the threat/non-threats changing. How they're designated, on the other hand isn't legit.
  14. I had BAD experiences with my 930SPX and traded it for an FN SLP Mk1 with no regrets. It's set up for 3 gun right out of the box, so no other cost is involved to get started. Of course you can put other doodads on it to make it a little better, but as it is stock it's great.
  15. The skill level of shooters in my IDPA club (actually several clubs, but many of the same shooters) has been improving quite a bit lately. It seems like over half of the folks I shoot with have Expert or higher classifications in at least one division- many in multiple divisions. Those that aren't will probably be soon, whether by classifier or match bump. To say the least it keeps me on my toes and motivates me to practice more...and everyone else is pretty motivated, too. It's alot of fun seeing everyone improve and trying to keep up with them to stay competitive. The cool part- we're all great friends and everyone is extremely encouraging. I hope everyone is able to find a group to shoot with that's as great a bunch of folks as the ones I'm able to shoot with.
  16. Mine just came out one side or the other. I can't remember it's been so long, though. It should come out without removing the trigger.
  17. This isn't a course design change.
  18. I'd really like to keep my VZ Aliens, but if I can't get the weight down enough by replacing the FLGR and ambi safety I might have to go that route.
  19. My STI Trojan weighs 43.3 ounces with an empty Tripp Research magazine with Dawson basepad, Dawson ICE magwell, and ambi safety. Weight limit for IDPA ESP is 43 ounces. I'm figuring the easiest way to shed weight would be replacing the full-length guiderod with a standard-length unit. How much are we talking here...an ounce, half an ounce? What about an aluminum FL guiderod? I could also ditch the ambi safety. Ho difficult are these to fit, and could someone hazard a guess as to how much I could save going this route? I performed a search, but didn't find any specifics as far as weight is concerned.
  20. Maybe in your club, but definitely not in the ones I shoot with. We're in the school of thought that an SO should know better, so they deserve the penalties they earn. Newer shooters are more likely to get the benefit of the doubt, but even that's not too common. I'm blessed to get to shoot with alot of fair and consistent SO's...davehorn is one of those.
  21. Thanks! Yeah, they're VZ Grips. They're pretty aggressive, but not so much that they'll hurt you after a long practice session.
  22. I wonder if they're trying to stir up interest with the show. Just a thought.
  23. My local club has a ruleset based on the early provisional DMG rules that we've used for a couple years now. We realized early on that this situation needed addressing, so we doubled the value of the Failure to Neutralize penalty- 10 seconds. This definitely makes you think twice before letting a target go unneutralized.
  24. Have a few stiff drinks, but not so many that you have too much of a hangover. This is what I do.
