  1. Feral children...that's my term for them.-Mike
  2. Oh man,Metric airframe? That sucks! At least our ATR42s aren't like that!Usually,ATR at least gives us SAE conversions for torques and clearances,BUT,I've seen several instances where the conversions were wrong(!!!!).Working on Fokker F-27s was a real trip, they were about 99% British Standard(or Whitworth,if you prefer),and the rest was SAE.Other A&Ps would give me crap about my funny sized wrenches, then I'd have to inform them that Whitworth was the FIRST unified fastener system, and that SAE was actually the bastard.-Mike
  3. Isn't that one of the laws of physics though?I saw a great counter to those stupid "honor student" bumper stickers the other day too.It said "My kid knocked up your honor student".That one made me chuckle a little.-Mike Edited to add this thought:How about those stick figure family bumper stickers.Do they seem like a menu for serial killer to anybody else??
  4. Man,I hate hearing about this too.I really liked the Uly and Lightening Long I test rode a while back. The big reason I didn't buy was our local dealer. When I read the first post in this thread,my first thought was that Harley had killed Buell to start importing something from MV Agusta. But now it sounds like they have MV up for sale too?Very strange.I know things are real tough at the MoCo right now.-Mike
  5. I'll be trying Ramshot Competition one of these days.I'll be using 125 and 147gr lead bullets, looking for Minor.-Mike
  6. Oh yes,it will work very well for you at Minor.I don't have my data in front of me right now,but I was having real good luck with it under 200 LSWCs for a 625 revo.I use like 4-4.5grs IIRC.IMO,its cleaner and cooler burning than Titegroup.I believe there are quite a few Bullseye shooters that use it too.-Mike
  7. It seems like these days, availability ranks right up there for me.Other than that, for my autos, whatever goes bang. For my revos, after un-tuning,whatever goes bang.-Mike
  8. I had a chance to put a few rounds through one recently.I thought it shot well, and fit my large hands a little better than an out of the box J-frame.The sights are good as well, compared to my older Bodyguard and my wife's newer 60.It seemed to handle recoil well for such a light gun.The big advantage to the J Smith that I don't hear mentioned is ejection. The LCR ejects MUCH more cleanly.I liked it well enough that I could see trading off my steel Bodyguard for one.Who really cares what a CONCEALED carry gun looks like anyway??-Mike
  9. IMO,Titegroup seems more like Bullseye than 231.WST might be worth a try as well.-Mike
  10. The old timers would just peen/stretch the original hand and refit it.An old timer police armorer told me that it was considered routine maintenance on the Colts.-Mike
  11. I've have a 6" 586-1 thats like that.It has a fair amount of gap, plus I believe the barrel is pretty tight as well.It always chronos quite a bit slower than the rest of my 38/357s.Its such a tack driver though that I'm just going to leave it alone. With those Berry's,try shortening your OAL to about 1.43,with 4.5grs of W231,and see what happens.-Mike
  12. I'd suggest field stripping it and seeing if there was something going on with the frame/yoke,trigger assembly. The trigger assembly is what holds the yoke in the frame.Do you have the instructions for detail stripping it?Its really easy to do.-Mike
  13. Its the weight of the gun that holds the hook down, with a slight over center "camming" effect. You can safely start with it unlocked, but for a turning or moving start,I always lock mine. You'll have to adjust the 2 screws on the block to get you're gun to set right, especially the inside one under the hook.I set mine to have just a tiny, tiny bit of play when the gun is in and the lock is on.-Mike
  14. OK,when I see stuff like this,my first thought is that these folks are getting their parts bins mixed up.I'm thinking that they're getting bins of rejected parts slipped in there somehow, and nobody putting them together now knows the difference. If its not a picture perfect CNC/MIM part, they're lost!On a more positive note,my new CNC/MIM 610 is pretty sweet.-Mike
  15. Hi Chris,I think you'll be happy with the SpeedSec holster. My wife and I have been running them for a while now. You'll want to make sure you get all the adjustment screws tight enough, and keep an eye on them.I liked the SpeecSec well enough, that I got one for my smallblock Glocks too.How do the chambers look in your 610?Mine have a bit of what looks like reamer swirl marks in them.I checked ejection with some stout 10mm loads and didn't have any problems,it just uglied the brass slightly. No marks at all on the .40s I ran through.I might get them polished anyway though when I have the cylinder chamfered.I got a nice 7-8lb D/A pull on mine by just touching up the rebound slide and messaging the factory springs.Good luck and have fun,-Mike
  16. Congrats Chris,I just picked up a 4" 610 myself. This is probably the best balanced N-Frame I've ever handled.I picked it up to be a double duty pin/hunting gun.I've only got 12 10mm's and 50 stout minor .40s through it,but it seems to be a sweet shooter. What little action cleanup that needed to be done,IMO,is done and now i just need to get some more clips for it.It sounds like the RIMZ clips work well,so I'll get some of those to try first. What moonclip holders are you guys using with those plastic rascals?-Mike
  17. For an all purpose .357 Mag load,I like 6.2grs of Bullseye under a 158 LSWC.They're soft shooting without a lot of muzzle blast, but still a real .357 load.IRC,they roll about 1100 fps.I believe Alliant used to list 6.5 as a max load at like 32,500 PSI.For a really fast hunting type load,I don't know.I've tried all of the slow burners at max book loads, and have always been pretty disappointed over the chrono.-Mike
  18. I've actually got a GP that I've been playing with.I originally bought it to use for big game hunting,so I'm not beating up my older blued Smiths.I've stoned the action a little here and there, and I've got it pretty good in DA,except for a slight return hitch.Next,I'd like to maybe have someone work the SA side of things some.I'd like it a little crisper, and I think a trigger stop would be nice too. Also,I'm going to have local machinist see if he can shave some weight off of the hammer.I was thinking thinning some of it here and there, maybe hollow it out,but leave the spur.I'd like to see how much that could boost the lock time.Or,I could just work up a stout 158 SP load and go hunting.-Mike
  19. Isn't the whole thing kind of pointless if they (Ruger) continue to NOT SELL critical parts that wear and return your gun to original stock if you send it in for any kind of service? I was thinking the same thing.-Mike
  20. Smith could comply with this by just putting heavier springs in them though.I think that the real problem is that nobody there knows how to fit the forged internals anymore. It looks like they're doing the MIM parts so well, that they're pretty much a drop in deal. That no worky with the old school stuff. Most of the standard line MIM guns I've tried/own are actually pretty decent out of the box.-Mike
  21. Don't get me started on the "Safe Queen Center" guns.Up to this point,I'm 3 for 3 on PC guns that have had QC issues, some pretty serious(push off,timing,etc.).IMO,Smith is making these things to be collectors, not shooters. For what they charge for them, they should be ashamed. No more for me,EVER,I'm done.-Mike
  22. Triumph has a retro Scrambler out now too.Pretty cool looking bike I think.-Mike
  23. I have to agree with everything joecichlid posted. My wife has has 2 of these things that she shoots Steel and Pins with.I wish that both of them would crack their frames. Then maybe I could convince her to get into something a little more "rugged and reliable".I believe Smith designed the 22A to be a light duty plinking gun.For that I think they're probabaly OK.They're just not that good of a high volume competition gun.IMO,for a rule of thumb, when you get to the point that you've spent as much money on ammo as you have on this gun,its time to retire it.-Mike
  24. I will be thinking of this one all day, thanks! LOL...that reminds me of a story my Father In Law tells about growning up in Upstate New York.He had an uncle that had a goat greased during deer season,in his front yard,by some fellas that had come up from NYC.His uncle was determined not to let that happen again,so every season from then on,he put brightly colored coats on them.Yes,there is/was such a thing as goat coats.Which is why our opening weekend deer camp toast is "HERE'S TO GOAT COATS!"-Mike
  25. That HS-6 is going to be pretty messy for Minor 9s.It'll take quite a bit of it too.I'm running 3.3gr of Titegroup under 147RN Berry's right now.I like Bullseye under the 147s also.Theres quite a few powders that will get you what you want.WW231/HP38,WSF,maybe WST,Solo 1000,AA #2,Unique,Universal,etc.-Mike
