  1. I have one of the 380 plates, but have not been satisfied with it. The 380s do drop through OK, but the 9 sticks in the slots, sometimes to the point of having to be pried out. Maybe I got a dud.
  2. Let's assume that all of the 9x19 came from 9 major open shooters, which likely tends to bias the results positively for 9 major because many if not not most of the L10 and Open minor shooters likely contributed 9x19 brass. Let's also assume that all of the 38 variants came from open major shooters, which doesn't seem too unreasonable. And let's also assume that all of the 45 and 40 came from L10 shooters. For open major under those assumptions, then 9 major would constitute 29%/(29%+40%) = 42% and the 38 variants would constitute 40%/(29%+40%) = 58%. I consider a 16% difference significant. But, as you note, that conclusion depends on how "significant" is defined.
  3. From a random sample of brass from the Open/Limited 10 Nationals (n=383): 2% 45 ACP 29% 40 S&W 40% 38 variants (38 Super, 38SC, 38TJ, 9x21, etc.) 29% 9x19 At that match, there were 110 L10 shooters (99 major, 11 minor) and 271 Open shooters (265 major, 6 minor). From this, it looks like 9 major was significantly less common than 38.
  4. +1 on True Blue 7.8 gr. with 124 grain JHP at 1.165 or 1.170, my preference over Silhouette, HS-6, WSF, and 3N37. Very fine, dense powder = fast and accurate loading. Good dot tracking and impulse feel. It leaves a residue in the gun, but so does Silhouette, HS-6, and WSF.
  5. I use 4.8 grains of American Select with a 230 grain Montana Gold CMJ loaded at 1.250 OAL, Win LP primer. Tested at 172 PF average at 75 degrees, 440 ft altitude. Trojan 5.0. I have not seen any pressure signs, but you should start with a lower charge and work up using normal procedures.
  6. What's wrong with the new style with all the extra junk removed?
  7. Here's some data I have for 95 grain Montana Gold FMJ, one load shot in a 4.15" Match Master and the other in a 5.5" Trubor. These loads undoubtedly exceed SAAMI maximum pressures by quite a bit. Use at your own risk. 8. I've used the Uniquetek high-precision electronic scale for a couple of years now, and recommend it.
  9. American Select, Competition, Zip, Solo 1000, and Titegroup. Slower powders also work, but perhaps not as well (e.g., WSF, True Blue, Silhouette)
  10. I have this in my chrono log: 6" STI Eagle, 70 degree day, 1070' altitude 185 gr Precision, CCI Small Pistol Primer, Power Pistol 5.4 gr, avg. 928 fps, SD 14, ES 47, AvgPF 172, HiPF 175, LoPF 166
  11. +1 on StageCad. It's a little buggy, but well worth the learning curve and quirks. In addition to the overhead view and flyover view, it also allows you to "walk through" the course and observe all of the views and props, and estimate shot trajectories. I use it with a dual monitor set up, with the walk-through view on one screen and the overhead view on the other. They are interactive, and both update with new design information at the same time.

  13. If you plan to shoot steel, you should probably consider getting at least 750fps so the bullets disintegrate better. In fact, Steel Challenge rules require that speed.
  14. Here are some results I have had with True Blue minor: OAL Wt Mfg Type BBL Length Primer Powder Chg Avg: AvPF S.D.: E.S.: HiPF LoPF 1.165 115 MG CMJ 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.4 1158 133 20 71 136 128 1.165 115 MG CMJ 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.6 1168 134 17 58 136 130 1.165 115 MG CMJ 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.6 1203 138 27 82 143 134 1.165 124 Precision MFP 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 5.7 1075 133 12 40 135 130 1.130 124 Precision MFP 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 5.8 1112 137 12 36 140 135 1.145 124 Rainier PFP 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.0 1062 131 21 71 137 128 1.145 124 Rainier PFP 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.2 1095 135 11 37 138 133 1.145 124 Rainier PFP 5.0 Eagle CCI SP True Blue 6.2 1116 138 12 36 141 136 These are all pretty nice loads to shoot. When I'm in the mood for a really snappy load, I also have use True Blue with 95 grain MG FMJ. It flattens the primers pretty good, though, so I only use it in my Eagle or Edge, not my Glock or CZ. I use True Blue a lot for major loads, and really like it.
  15. Just noticed this thread. Here's some Power Pistol/Precision load data for a 6" STI Eagle: OAL Wt Mfg Type BBL Primer Powder Chg Avg AvPF S.D. E.S. 16. You can order the Match Master in 9x19 with the big comp. See http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77650
  17. Has anyone tried a strip of tape along the bottom of the trigger guard?
  18. Actually, it's still patent infringement. Under the patent law, "whoever without authority makes, uses, offers to sell, or sells any patented invention ... infringes the patent." Shooting the copy would be a separate infringement. As a practical matter, though, it would not make economic sense to go after an individual who made a copy for personal use.
  19. It expires July 8, 2012. Looks like the patent is up in march 2011.
  20. I have a 6" STI Eagle with the two piece guide rod. I do not have to disassemble the rod to take the gun down. I use a bushing wrench to remove the bushing with the top end on the gun. Then I take the slide off and remove the recoil spring. That leaves enough slack to remove the rod without taking it apart. I've never had the rod come apart, but I've only run around 4K rounds through it.

    9mm major

Zip looks to be too fast for 9 major. It's a nice powder for 40 S&W and 9 minor, though.
  22. I have a similar problem and have found drug store 1.5x readers useful; I can see the front sight fairly sharply, but still have a bit of focus on the target. To solve the safety issue, I use $4 ANSI Z87.1 & CSA Z94.3 compliant "eyeglass protectors" from Lowes or Home depot over the readers. Looks funny, but at my age I don't really care. Some of the online safety glasses stores offer a similar eyeglass protector in dark smoke for sunny days.
  23. From the posts in this old thread, my impression is that the Swenson safety may have had some quality issues. Have those issues been resolved since the patent expired?
  24. Will anybody be selling food at the range for lunches on Saturday and Sunday?
