Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Well i cant say that i have with a Glock but i did have hornady 158,gr SWC tumble on me thru a revo, the reason i was told is they dont like to be pushed past 750-800fps and i was over that limit. I backed the load down and they shot normally, so perhaps the lead you were shooting wasnt made for it ? I shot another bullet with the load that made the hornadys tumble and it handled them just fine.
  2. Im figuring that if you dont go too many rounds without cleaning and dont have the pressure cranked way up, you should be all right. That being said, i still have a LW barrel for my G-19 and shoot only lead through it, im using Berrys 125gr lead rn rounds with about 3.9 grs of unique and i have seen no leading thus far. I clean the barrel after every range trip though so as not to tempt fate even though it can handle them. I havent tried the stock Glock barrel yet but i mgiht give it 100-200 rounds and check along the way to see how it hanldes the leading issue. Now im probably going to order 230gr plated rounds to shoot through my G-21 as i cant find jacketed anywhere and Berrys says you can shoot them through your glock but dont use jacketed data to load them.
  3. Fellas, thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. The closest i have come to finding what i want is this http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/departm...gear/82387.aspx Im just looking for simple full lense +1.50 or +1.75 and i cant find them on most of these sites or they want prescription numbers. I e mailed a few of them and will wait and see what they say back.
  4. Thats pretty much the way i figure im going to have to go, they want big numbers on the prescription sights and all i really need is like you, a +1.5 to see the sights. Thanks anyway for the help guys, its appreciated.
  5. Hey Guys Im almost 50 years old and the eyes are going.I need reading glasses as things arent as sharp close up anymore, the front sight especially is fuzzy and the only way i can see it is with the inserts that i have to wet and stick on the inside of the shooting glasses. These can be a pain as sometimes they fall out or i have to stand there and play with them to get them in the right spot and they have to be wet down. I was going to use some store bought readers but thought better of it as they are made of glass and who knows what they will or wont do in case of a "problem". Does anyone know of anywhere where safety readers can be gotten ? The whole lens, not just the bottoms like bifocals. I have tried searching around but all i can come up with is the bifocals. I got to figure im not the only one with this problem and if anyone knows, someone here might. Thanks.
  6. Im almost positive that im going to go with the Kimber, i like the Glock but i have wanted a good 1911 for years, one that i dont have to do too much messing with. Too many stories about Colts and other brands that they need this changed out and this altered and that done. I held this one in the shop and it fit perfect in my hand and the trigger seemed nice. So thanks for the input guys, its appreciated.
  7. I am trying to decide which to get , Glock 21 Sf or a Kimber Stainless Govt type model. I am leaning towards the Kimber as the one i handled i really liked the trigger and the feel of it and the price isnt too bad either, $800. Anyone use a Kimber in Competition and have comments on it ? The Glock i am familiar with as i shoot a G-19 often as of late but the trigger isnt the greatest but im getting it down, thanks mainly to the help i have gotten on this site. I just want to really see what the general consensus is on this board about Kimber . Thanks
  8. Well to get the lead out fairly quickly i have two options i use. I have the Lewis lead remover from brownells and that always gets it out or if you can find some of the copper stranded cleaning pads like Chore-boy, get some of those. What you do is snip a few strands off and wrap it tightly around a .45 cal cleaning brush just put some solvent on and work away, it will get it out but not as fast as the Lewis will. Remember, its got to be the copper stranded type. As far as why its leading, im no semi expert but if it was a six gun i would say slug the bore and then measure the rounds you are using as they might be undersized but seeing as you said its a les baer i doubt thats it. Could be the lead youre using is too soft, thats a possibility also. Get some different lead from differnet suppliers and see if theres a difference. Personally i shoot Berrys lead and i have not one complaint. I hope this helped.
  9. Havent had a problem with mine yet, knock on wood, and i have had it for 11 years.
  10. I have 3 bulgers for about 5 years now, i do a lot of excercises to keep the gut strong but you got to stretch totally before you do that kind of stuff. Especially the hamstrings, people tend to overlook that thinking its just their legs. Well the back is connected thru them also and if youre tight there, youre going to have problems. If i dont stretch them at least 5 days a week i got problems. Try it out guy, it cant hurt and i will make a small bet you will feel a lot of tension go out of your back almost instantly.
  11. Went out again after re-reading what you guys said and i improved. Main things i put heavy emphasis on was just getting the sight pic and putting that steady pressure on the trigger and going straight back, also made my face relax and as Houngan said to try to look over the guns sights so to speak which i had never done before. I was still flinching a little, but no where near as much as before. Actually put 5 in the same hole, lol. I am keeping up with the dry fire and i guess i just rushed too fast and expected too much overnight. My bad. At least now i got a direction to go in, im thankful to all you guys who took the time. I did some shooting with a beretta 92 and a Glock 19, the Beretta because of its shorter trigger pull was doing better but the difference wasnt much after a while, it even got so i knew where the bullet hit after i pulled the trigger and the gun bucked. I guess the speed will take a long time to come but im glad i got as far as i did. On a side note, my max distance where im effective so to speak is 12 yards, after that i would disintegrate. just for a try i walked out to about 30 yards where i hardly ever get on the paper at all and i fired 6 shots, 5 were about 3 inches away from the 3 inch bull and the last 1 i jerked low. I have never come close to doing that before, never. So at least now i got hope. Once again, thanks guys.
  12. The dry firing to me isnt worth anything. I know, i know everyone swears by it and all but i was doing it for 10 mins a night for a few nights and i went out today and its like no difference at all. When im dry firng i KNOW there isnt going to be any bang, but when i get out there, there is a bang so automatically im going back to the old habits. I tried dry firing before i shot my first mag and it seemd to help a little but its like my mind or my body wasnt remembering it. i dont know how to type this out so it makes sense so im trying the best i could. It was just as bad as could be today, i mean all over the place, truly disgusting. Im going to get in touch with someone whose name i was given to see if the man can spot anything, thats the only way im going to learn because i cant figure it out and i get mad too fast when im trying these different things out. Thanks for all the help and advice guys, im probably one of the toughest nuts to crack there is, lol.
  13. Tried again today after watching Burketts dvd. Changed my stance so im leaning on the balls of my feet instead of the heels, tried using a straighter weak arm and a bent strong arm, did the dry fire drills, tried concentrating more on the front sight than anything. Now im worse off than before !!! The flinch isnt so bad but im all over the place, going more high now with a few flinchers but no semblance of a group at all, i mean none. this is serioulsy driving me nuts. Im shooting a Glock 19 with a light load of 125 gr lead under 3.8 grs 231. All the book reading in the world isnt helping me worth squat. Im am so irritiated i almsot threw the gun over the berm, nothing would go right. Just totally disgusted. I seriously need to have someone who knows what the hell hes doing work with me but here in Vegas i dont know of anyone at all. I will try again tomorrow but i dont forsee any bearkthroughs.
  14. So in other words, you recommend dry fire ? Seriosuly though, thanks.
  15. Well i sort of figured there was no magical cure such as "Hold it this way or do it this way" , But i had to ask anyway, lol. I guess its just purely a mental thing and will have to be overcome. I will load some dummy rounds up and mix them in and stick with the double muffs but its just going to be concentration that overcomes it. Its tough though. Thanks for the advice though guys, i will let you know if theres any improvement. I did order Burketts videos so i will see if any lights go on that way.
