  1. As an aside --- if timers were so perfect, they'd have a function to allow us to get a different sound or vibration after every tenth shot..... In all reality, what good would this do? I can't see any place where it would help, you start with 11 in the gun. I know you can only have 10 rounds in the mag for production and if you shoot more you go to open, but the vibration at 10 rounds assumes that you shoot 10 rounds every time before you reload. Am I missing something? Tom
  2. I have a very big announcement for the match! STI has steped up as the match sponsor! The match is now the STI Area 4 Championship! Thanks STI!! Tom
  3. I looked at the averages, low 60's at night low 80's in the day. Tom
  4. Yes Tom The Application is online at: http://www.area4championship.com/registration.html Thanks to Lee neel for doing this. Tom
  5. Yes you can shoot it on Friday! This will most likley be the last day to fill up. We are working on shooting it all in one day, or shooting 2 half days, your option. I should have the appup in a day or two. Tom
  6. I misread the calender, 20-23 Thursday for staff, Friday Sat and Sunday for tha main match. Tom
  7. I am pleased to announce that the 2010 Area 4 Championship will be May 20-23 at the Shootout Range (Clark Range) in Bossier City, LA I am the MD and Ray Hirst will be the RM. Ray will have a lot to do with stage design, so get ready for lots of movers, and stages you will have to think about. There will be a web site for the match shortly, with an application online to make things easier. There will be 12 stages, you can shoot it in one day or ywo. With a cost of $125, Jr's $75. I will need staff for this match. If you can work it, please send me an email at tom@drazymetalworks.com. Lots more info to come. Thanks Tom Drazy 2010 Area 4 Match Director Application is at: http://www.area4championship.com/registration.html
  8. With all the sponsoring that STI does for our sport, I would be hard pressed to buy a Taurus over an STI. There are others who sponsor our sport heavly, but between these two, no contest. Tom
  9. yeah I am worried about it in the barrel....I would shoot it out of non-choked barrels though....mossy 590's etc....doubt I would use that load in 3 gun...or anything other than plinking....would never shoot it indoors or at steel....that does sound quite dangerous....I wonder if buffering it with some kind of rubber would help.....eh, just doesn't seem worth it does it? I just couldn't pass up the deal at harbor freight....they sold me 50 pound jugs for $1.13 each....and at the end of the transaction, the manager of the store was just like "give me $6 and you can have all of it".....I have enough, so that it actually made the back end of my car sag when I loaded it all up.....LOLOLOL.....gotta find something to do with it.... When lead shot hits a popper, you get a big cloud of lead dust. Very little of it bounces. I can not think of a way to shoot steel shot at poppers safe. Another thing to concider, is the number of pllets in the shot cup, it is very different in steel and lead. I have loaded a lot of shells, and it is difficult to get a good pattern with steel. The buffer materal is a plastic that has been ground to a consistency of something like tide soap, very fine and dry, so it flows good. I would be carefull about shooting it from and non-choked barrel. Most barrels have a choke built in them. You will shoot it out. If you have a barrel with a choke, they make chokes for steel shot. It is very open. Later Tom edited cuz I don't spill good!
  10. It will be 2 seperate matches, and then a Trophy for the combined "steel master". Tom
  11. I am peased to announce that the Drazy Metal Works Steel 500, is going to be re-named the USPSA Practical Steel Championship. It will be at PASA park, Barry, IL on Sept 16-19. A sancioned steel challenge will be on Friday, and the Field stages will be on Sat and Sun. It can be shot in one day! We will have a website up in January with more details, and the stages. Ray Hirst will be doing the stage design. Lat year the match was 503 rounds, I don't expect any less this year! Thanks Tom
  12. ok bro, Where and when? Tom
  13. Magtech that I got from Graf's. I'm going to try to go back and find my receipt, but I'm pretty sure I didn't order the magnums. What loads usually use magnum primers? 357? A I wouldn't wory about it. I have shot small rifle, small pistol, small pistol Maginum's, and have only seen about 25 fps differance in any of them. BUT IF you are concerened, I would take them off your hands! Later Tom
  14. I have seen and read the artical that you referance. In the 1st or 2nd paragraph it refers to "dry moly". This is the stuff that was sold with a tumbler to apply it. It was very messy, nasty stuff to use. I own Black Bullets International, Precision Bullet (David Long) and I neither one use this stuff. Although I am not sure of the exact product he is using, it is similar to what I use. It is a Moly that is suspended in a liquid that is tumbled on the bullets. Molybdenum (moly) is one of the best industrial lubes that is aviable. I stand behind my bullets and I know that David does as well. I used his before I bought Mater Blaster Thanks Tom
  15. For this match next year, I am working on a page or two to add to one of my websites for this match so we don't have to spend any of the charity money on it. There will be a link on the main page for the match info, an application, directions to the range, motel info, and then the results. When I have it done, I will post it here so everyone can find it. Thanks Tom
  16. Ken has them, I hope he gets them to me or here. The club has no website.
  17. Thanks to everyone who braved the cold to shoot the match, attached is the results for the steel match. Tom Shoot_for_Life.pdf
  18. If you are refering to Area 3, we had several shooters bumped to open from production, and one from Single stack. We did not have access to the classifiers at the range as we had no internet. So the decision was made (right or wrong) to leave them in the class they were when they signed up. Tom
  19. Chuck, I had these guys finish my Single stack, they sponsored the ProAm last year. Fantastic job. 1 week turn around time. It is the blackest black I have ever had on a gun. http://www.nicindustries.com/cerakote_video.php Tom
  20. Of the glocks I have looked at, the rear sight looks like a dove tail, but it is not, the front sight is scred into the slide with a philips head screw. Later Tom
  21. I am not sure how hard tracks are, but we have used the teeth from the buckes. On a backhoe, these are ar500 they are about 4 inches sq. Very good 100 to 150 yd rifel target. Most construction company change them frequently. Tom
  22. The older SDB's need springs (set of two) to pull the bar back into the powder feed area after moving over the powder die. I don't know what provides the force for returning the bar on the new version measures. There has been several upgrades to the SDB, one of them is the powder measure, Dillion sent me a rod that is a sure reset (like my 650) for no charge. If you call Dillion they will set you up. Later Tom
  23. Why would you need another calibration if you are making it lighter? This would be good in an ideal match, but in reality if the ground is soft or wet, the poppers are going to move, the RM would not have time to keep calibrating 40 to 50 poppers all day long. I expect the staff to manage the steel. Appendix C1 states that the RM must calibrate the poppers before the match, not required to do it every morning or twice a day. Do you want the RM to shut the range down in the middle of the day, on a half day format, for a half hour so he can get to all 12 stages at an Area match? That seems very excessive to me. My .02 Tom
