  1. Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of IDPA and/or USPSA. I have been competing in USPSA for over 25 years and IDPA since the beginning almost (I'm 61). The forum is very informative and helpful (and crazy sometimes - check out the Humor thread if you don't believe me!). The best part about both sports is you compete at your own level and ability and progress at your own speed (TOO SLOW USUALLY). I suggest you check out practice nights also. They are more likely to give you the opportunity to check out equipment and etc. under less stressfull/more laid back conditions. Richard
  2. Have you checked out Brownells and Midway catalogs? I'm sure others will make suggestions but these are 2 OTTOMH. Richard
  3. A pirate limped into the bar with a parrot on his shoulder. The Bartender asked "Where did you get that ugly thing?" The Parrot said "Well, it started out as a wart on the bottom of my foot!" Arrrrrgh!
  4. Actually, the chicken was in Texas and he wanted to show the Armadillos (sp) it could be done.
  5. I have been competing in USPSA since the early 80's (I'm 61) and I still get the jitters. Ken Hackathorn told me that he still gets jitters too and that if he didn't he would think something was wrong with him. I have been involved with stress management for over 25 years and for me going off to the side (if u don't people who see you will think you flipped) and tightening/clenching and relaxing your muscles several times and deep breathing help a lot. Richard
  6. First, do a search for this problem...... Grab a shooting buddy....Have him hold the grip and barrel muzzle end up, cyl. open. A glove to protect his hand from the front sight would be a good thing. I have used a hardwood dowel (different sizes available at Loew's or Home Depot) and a small hammer. Most of the time the bullet will come out buy hitting the end of the dowel. Sometimes more persuasion is needed but a bigger hammer is not necessarily the answer here. I have read where some people soak the bore in various solvents overnight and or use rods of different material but at the range this wasn't possible. I have never seen a case where the bullet didn't come out but I am sure others have. Others will, I'm sure, offer other fixes. Richard
  7. There are some in the classifieds. They are up for trade but maybe you can get him to sell them to you. Richard
  8. Call the company and ask them!!!!!!!
  9. Have you contacted CCF for their help?
  10. Yes but that's 2 or 3 min. I could be cranking out ammo. Just joking. I would love to have 2 presses but only have ceiling height for 550 bench space for one press. Richard PS: It's a converted 440 CHECK OUT THE CLASSIFIED SECTION. THERE IS A SDB IN .45 FOR SALE.
  11. I have some of the inexpensive Blade Tech doubles and started using them in matches without break-in or problems. Richard
  12. I had my gunsmith tune mags for my Paras and he used the original parts (he returnes unused parts and I have gotten no mag parts) that came with the mags. He speced the tubes and feed lips and they work 100%. I have been able to add Dawson base pads with no changes needed or problems. Richard PS: The Paras he built for me keep on going and going whereas 2 built by BIG named smiths wouldn't work no matter what!
  13. Michale Bane over on Downrange.tv toured Wilson and showed of an alloy frame (I think). Can't find one on his site but you might get in touch with them. They make a quality read $$$$$ product. Keep us informed sounds like an interesting project. Good luck. Richard
  14. Welcome. The sound you just heard is the price of components going up. Check around for the best deals and get them when you can!!!!! Richard
  15. Welcome Ron. I am 61 and have been shooting USPSA for 25+ years (back when I had more $$$$"s than sence) and IDPA almost since the beginning (haven't heard of IDPA?-check out their site. Similar to USPSA but different). Another suggestion I have is to check at the match and see if they have a practice night/match during the week. Might be a good time to check out the different blasters. Good advise above. Richard
  16. Get a new gunsmith. I have 2 Paras in .45. One Series 70 and 1 Series 80 (even though they say you can't get a good trigger on a Series 80). Both have 2-21/4# triggers. Both have fired thousands of rounds with no follow or other problems. Richard
  17. Check with Dawson Precision. He may have what you need.
  18. I think USPSA calls them "Clam Shell" targets also.
  19. Check data.hodgdon.com for WST loads. Also check loads for WSF.
  20. Glocks aren't as expensive as Sigs. This alone makes them the better choice for a lot of people. Also, a lot of new shooters see a lot of Glocks being used and choose to buy and shoot a Glock right away. If possible shoot your Glock and then try to borrow a Sig for a re-shoot and see what you think. Just because it feels good is as good a reason to buy one as any other so go for it. Tru-Grip may or may not help the feel for you. Check out someone elses w/Tru-Grip. Good Luck, Richard PS: Glocks feel good when I pick them up but I have always prefered the early model without the finger grooves. When I started shooting USPSA 25+ years ago shooting with the 1911 I thought the Pachmyer (SP?) rubber grips w/finger grooves were the greatest (for a short time) but quickly changed my mind after too many botched draws during practice. The number dropped drastically when I went back to the standard 1911 grips.
  21. I guess others aren't understanding your question so I'll say to call Dillon and ask them. Their tech support is top notch and they will be able to help. Another suggestion would be to get the 550 (if possible) because it is just that much better. Richard
