  1. Call Dillon and see what they say...You can't go wrong there!
  2. FWIW, I'm an old guy, been shooting for 25+ years...having problems picking up the front sight quickly. Have had a HI-VIZ Green for a while...like it a lot. Green dot stays sharp for me - red fuzzes out. Also have a Dawson I just got back so only had chance to sight it in. Looks good but a little small - we'll see.
  3. One thing I learned by watching the better shooters at the Limited Nationals is try to shoot the target last that gets you headed to the next shooting box quickest ie don't be leaning away from your next direction of travel.
  4. Never had a problem with mine (untuned). Sorry!
  5. Sorry I didn't check the date of your post. You probably have been using your M&P with whatever mods for ages. Newby trying to catch up.
  6. SMSI, check to see if anyone has sept-Oct Front Sight (USPSA Mag.) they have an article about the M&P in Production.
  7. Plate racks are really great but for a little bit more fun try the Texas Star and bring lots of loaded mags.
  8. You might place an ad on USPSA Classifieds. Someone might have an old one they will sell you.
  9. Just remembered after my first post that STI a small company from Texas had made a big move and will no longer sell to police, DEA, Fed or what have you because of the micro stamping law (they stopped selling to civilians because of other requirements on them as a co.). Their CA. LEO sales weren't great but the civilian USPSA and IDPA would be worthwhile. For that reason I would go with something from them to say thanks. Check Brownells for matching slide/frame kit and other parts.
  10. Read the USPSA rule book on AD's (rule 10.4). This will give you an idea about taking off the safety, but you NEVER want to take it off or put your finger on the trigger until you are at least 45 d. up from the ground on the draw unless the course has an up close and personal target(s) on the ground in front of you. They changed that recently because the course design like that violated the 10' rule.
  11. I have used the weak hand to drop mags for years after shifting my grip for a while (I'm 61) and people I shoot with say my reloads are a strong point for me. I don't know if everything else is so bad that this makes my reloads stand out or what!
  12. JZ, do you mean get classified or move up in classification? Each person is different as far as moving up. Some are naturals - I've known and shot with some of them. Others it takes lots of time and ammo. Me, I've been competing for over 25 years. Started out as C and haven't moved up because of all sorts of things no matter how hard I tried (am 61 now).
  13. JZ if you can, watch how the better shooters at your club do it. Also, if you get Outdoor Channel on cable join and watch Shooting USA. They will e-mail you the show schedule which includes USPSA Nationals and other cool matches and pro tips (can be viewed on their site).
  14. Talk to Dillon and see what they think. Good picture so you might send them to this site to see.
  15. Darren, don't feel bad, back 25+ years ago when I started we used a whistle and stop watch (you do know what those are don't you?) to start and time the stage. At my first match the RO blew the whistle and backed up so he wouldn't get shot! Neither one of us got shot (I forget if any targets got shot or not) but I was hooked and still am. The closest I got to B class was about .2 of a point. I finally realized I couldn't keep up with C shooters let alone B shooters. Grab some of the recommended books, read, relax and have fun. Brain farts happen. Nerves happen. S... happens.
  16. Happy, I agree with all those saying shoot what you have for a season. As to your question you are not going to be happy with anything if it isn't reliable!!! Price doesn't make it reliable!!! Having to send it back with reliability problems is expensive and time consuming and will not make you happy. Whatever you decide make sure your mags are tuned with the gun. If they can't be - look somewhere else. Someone on another site said that you should use the mags of the manufacturer whose gun you choose. I don't disagree or agree because most of the builders/companies were not around when I started 25+ years ago and haven't used most of their products. In 45 an 38 super single stack Wilson and Chip McCormick have worked for me and that is what I use in my carry 45 and in compitition. My smith tunes mags for me and the gun and mag combos feed empty cases. Good luck
  17. heidit, I am also new to the forum...call me chirpy (don't ask why!). I'm not new to the sport, as a matter of fact, I'm 61 and retired and have been having fun at USPSA/IPSC for 25+ years and IDPA almost since its beginning. I live in OHIO and it's d...cold here today. Shooting in Vegas sounds like fun but traveling with firearms doesn't. From what I can see this forum looks great. Good place for you to pick up needed info. Got to alot time for chores occasionally so it's going to take time to catch up. One place I can suggest for you to check out if you have Outdoor Channel on cable is Shooting USA on Wed. (if you don't get it sweet talk you hubby into getting and watching). A lot of interesting stuff. You can sign up for their newsletter which will tell you about the show schedule. Pay particular interest to shows about USPSA Nationals, Steel Challange (now owned by USPSA) and others. Also they have Pro Tips which will be helpful (these can be accessed at the web site). It sounds like you are well on your way. Have fun
