  1. good light is more than just over head... the should be multiple sources , user controlled (on a few stations) ...... which will vaguely mimic day light would be relatively ez and cost effective to design.... i once shoot at a range it had a cleaning station.... aka parts cleaning station !!!!! this was outdoor but i shot at a range that had moving, and self resting targets think shooting gallery..... id be happy some version of a plate rack or other steel targets.... +1 for good hand sink including matches some kind of low cost or member free programming, eg skill classes, guest instructors.... i shoot at range that allows rapid and holster draw if qualified. rentable timers rentable chrono for slow hours.... or magneto speed like so it doesnt have to be down range live range monitors during busy periods range monitors to help and instruct first time or new shooters couple sets of electronic ear muffs for new shooters (can i get a free day pass for consulting if i ever make out your way)
  2. Plunk test is dropping loaded round into barrel. Some include drop in and spin, drop spin and bullet drops out.... +1 on plunk +1 on 1.25. I load blue bullets. The 200 gr swc is most reliable I've found so far. +1 on crimp ... Without further info I'm betting your issue is here..... Don't ask me why...... Sharpie test failed bullets. And sharpie test random to see if you can find fault Clean and lube gun well, how dirty is gun since jamming Pics of jam How old and what weight recoil spring Have you measured cases after sizing. ... Case length Do your loaded cartridge pass roll test , cocentric How many times have cases been fired Are certain head stamps causing issue
  3. i wish i could offer more than mr. nimitz but it's prolly you.... the finger must activate the trigger the hammer must fall shot must occur all while sights stay in proper alignment with target.... try playing with weak grip increasing, position try playing with strong hand grip more, less definitely try different trigger finger placement from deep in first joint to finger tip can you get hand deeper into beaver tail my hands now leave the range tired!!!! if yours don't your doing something wrong (thanks to the advice of a few here) have you shot from supported position i'd suggest shooting at some closer distances also if you have night sights, dry fire in dark room, watch sights.... if you can do same with double action, then try doubles and triples practicing and learning double action has improved my single action trigger skills... i feel like i missed out on a lot of fundamentals shooting a tuned single action 1911 trigger. i know these will sound crazy but: try some close 3-5 yard bill drills on scaled uspsa or the like target. if not full bill drill try 3-4 shots. shoot doubles or triples with timer, if no timer i phone ap par timer.... (ok im no pro but these 2 have almost fixed my low left which is now very /slightly left issues. here is my padwan learner thinking. the speed drills teach you to hold gun better (grip) and learn trigger at speed. the speed also while at first will amplify issue..... but will also get to a point where you fix these issues... ) it sounds crazy but when i started working fast and accurate fixed multiple issues. i think shooting under stress some how breaks old routines/muscle memory faster....or create new ones and faster. stop practicing low left shots......
  4. has any one made ,drawn/.pdf, templates for grip tape for al. grips, front / back strap? I've draw and cut them before ( for other guns) but they never looked quite right
  5. i hear what you saying. but at speed i cant call my shots for crap..... @ my 60% speed most of the time @75% rare @100% its chaos!!! im new i can barely draw and decent a decent shot of at 3 seconds..... i agree with what your saying when i'm better.... ill sell it in classifieds i recently shot a practice steel match.... and can appreciate shot calling skill.
  6. sorry this one http://www.amazon.com/Your-Competition-Handgun-Training-Program/dp/144996642X
  7. i originally just wanted base model. ( when some one here never marked sold in classifieds) that one is caliber specific and loads in chamber i found out it would be less expensive for me to shoot multi calibers if i up graded to the laserlyte lt pro when i first looked into this product i was able to find it @ about $70 US. as i pulled the proverbial trigger last week that $70 price was no where to be found. best price last week was $90US My google-fu led me here. http://www.walmart.com/ip/LaserLyte-Training-Tyme-Kit-Laser-Pistol-RT-Target/34627537 for $125 US plus tax... (careful since purchased the price has not stayed consistent) MSRP is $220 US for a few dollars more and i get a training gun, the laserlyte lt pro, and a reaction tyme target. I'm good with that. to answer the unanswered question, yes the device sticks out past barrel by about 3/8" for 9mm. depending on style of holster minimal if any interference when drawing. With larger diameter .45 ACP even less will protrude barrel. Overall impression: ok i've already dry fired a few hundred times since i bought it. Is it a good training tool? HELL YES!!! this will take my dry fire practice to a whole new level. the laser lyte lt pro works, but its no mechanical break through. you need to keep a tiny allen wrench (provided) to adjust for calibers. the unit echos a cat toy laser. there are 2 weak links. One is you have to unscrew unit when not in use or you will drain batteries. two ive only screwed my unit open and closed a few time and Im pretty sure its already cross threaded. its surprisingly zeroed to within A-Zone (scaled target). it come with batteries for target, and 2 sets of batteries for laser device. Box says it's made in USA!!! the target is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. it has 2 modes. hit target face it lights up. in RT or reaction tyme mode, which could also stand for random tyme. it will blink you, shoot at it, it blinks to confirm shot. the compact training gun, is a few grades above toy level. i figure worse case scenario i use it when traveling and when practicing hand to hand. Go to their web site they have plenty of videos. The third generation of the product is just recently available. the laserlyte premium it has on off switch its shorter in length and fits those pocket revolvers. i'm under the impression that the second gen is in process of being phased out for newer premium version. The product offer 3 year limited warranty.... we'll see if they cover cross threading...... In spite of some engineering issues i would HIGHLY recommend this product. and if you can find it @ $125 BUY IT!!! i can see my draw to first shot par times improving!!!!!! and with confirmed accuracy!!!!
  8. that depends on primer..... on harder primers yes..... eg. SB Federal .....No
  9. What do you need timer to do for dry fire practice....?? I have a ced 8000. Larger easy to use easy to see... I like the belt clip with fold down screen , you can look down to see times review one hand attached to belt. 9 volt batt Never used the 7000. Smaller screen, special battery. Their web site is informative.
  10. today: work on speed. (stay out of sloppy zone) minimize sloppy trigger work, scaled uspsa 1/3 @ 6 yards reaction time drills (on target trigger prepped) single, and doubles i dropped my average to .25 had a few sub .2 had a few sub .15 splits didn't see noticeable difference in time. on single vs double action.... good accuracy and trigger control under speed/pressure is improving. only 3 C and 1 D today times have improved AAR: was being conservative, need to (almost) forget accuracy and go for pure speed. i was able to call more shots today need to: stay on target longer after last shot..... practice range commands and movements speed and reaction only ...next time. ps. first time shooting with contact lenses..... much better than glasses
  11. who do you send your barrels to ? how did it affect accuracy? it there a standard amount they ream? i ended up ordering a 500 pack of blue bullets 147 gn flat points to test.... but sns is next on list
  12. harbor freight for any tool that you can use vs buying "gun" brand digital caliper (wait for sale) punches brass plastic hammer wet dry sand paper magnetic tray magnifier head strap with lights dental pics there is more there but these i can vouch for if you are a stoner (way better pricing than......) https://www.borideabrasives.com/PublicStore/product/AM-8,17,292.aspx
  13. so i went to the opto. today was thinking i was going to get special scrip for shooting eyeglasses, after lots of research she was aware of dominant eye for close up non dominant distant set up....... i ended up leaving with contact lenses i was told give it day or 2 to let eyes adjust before shooting i have slight astigmatism in left eye, far sighted all together (getting old) i hated the limited field of view with progressive lens eyeglasses so far im happy with vision with contacts, no more of that swimming feel near vision is on point, mid distance ok, distance a bit off... but i have 3 months to fine tune Rx i happy vision so far but cant wait to get some bullets down range, seems much better dry fire distances in home just seeing if anyone had issues shooting when switching to contacts??????? or did you shoot better with eyeglasses?
  14. depends on twist rate of barrel. and what you are tryin to do i ended up with 179 amax with sub 1/2 MOA over re15 and lapua brass
  15. super im following your saying what im testing is real world accuracy, not specific to gun or ammo, i know it doesn't make a lot of strict scientific sense, but empirical evidence does count. which is the basis of this testing. i'm thinking rigging up a bench vise for a DIY ransom rest.... for rest shooting.... if your going to shoot from rest might as well go all the way
  16. I have decocker I like it. ( aka tactical ) I've done double action springs (spring kit) and very minor polishing. I've handled the shadow. I expected more...... Yes there are felt differences in trigger pull between different models and up grades but When the buzzer goes off.... You won't notice 1mm difference or the difference in a few pounds trigger pull, or even reset distance, firing pin block, lifter.......... Decocker / tactical....... Let's say some one breaks into you house attacks you or family...... Release safety and pull trigger. Or just pull trigger. I've been training a good bit with sp01 tactical.... While all the up grades would be nice and I'll probably do them eventually.... Most of the issues the ugrades address.... Can be dealt with by trainning with it. If you put a safety, tactical version in able hands. I'd bet their bill drill, and presidente times would be similar.... Lowering hammer becomes second nature...... You'll have it down in 200 reps or less.... Keep pointed down range with you practice I'd own another tactical in a heart beat..... My vote is for the de cocker!
  17. I'm about to order... The 147 flat point .... In. 3000 qnty. "Test pack".
  18. pkt can you give direct link to what you bought
  19. when was last time you clean and lubed gun? guy at practice match toady had similar issues sharpie test push test check crimp
  20. this book was suggested to me it covers drill goal setting diary planning reassesment fine tuning training and more..... ive only lightly perused it. its a good book highly recommend
  21. Groove yes No lube http://www.thebluebullets.com/product-p/sfr-147-9.htm How are they cheaper..... No shipping prices listed? On extreme BB. 147 flat. .0853 per bullet
  22. I've been shooting blue bullet 147 grn. Cz has short chamber. And the 147 RN complicates issues. Some one here mentioned the 147 flat point. I'm thinking I can get a way with longer coal. These bullets have groove at base. What effect does groove have? Has any one shot both 147 RN. And 147 flat. Any difference in feel or accuracy? Any loading issues?
  23. Shot first steel practice match...... That's a lot of fast shooting...... Placed first in division, center fire open sight..... 12th overall I didn't totally suck. Just partially. I had a blast.... I have lots of homework to do. my hands were tired.... Notes : Bring water, and food bars to all games Had FTRB with 1911... I'm now thinking recoil spring needs changing. Need 10 mags or 9plus one mags Bring chair and cooler I'm prolly going to train a moth or so before trying again 1911 holster is here with 2 pack idpa compliant magazine holder frip and hand exercises Needs fixin: I tend to screw up first shot. I think I'm slapping when at speed. ( tends not to happen after first shot)... Learn how to pull trigger aggressively and stay on target..... Analyze and fix soon! Practice range of swing, how to game swing, and target order Just dumb: Changing grip during match. FTRB gettingflustered when missing Good: The cz sp-01 functioned flawlessly. I learned a ton Meet some great peeps I realized how much I don't know
  24. I'm a beginner shooting .... with healthcare back ground I'm quite familiar with kinesiology , anatomy and physiology. Etc etc.... One thing I've noticed when watching others videos. Is the beginning of trasition movement..........most stutter, flinch . Or move, re- move, to a ready position before actually taking first step which equals time. It can be a bit of a flinch...have you seen man of fire. ...., where he is training lupita how to react of starting block at swim meet...... Watching the big guns an professional athletes. The move happens instant!! Watch sprinters. Eg Olympic 100 yard dash.... Gun shot explosive forward motion. Last shot , no wasted movement, moving towards...... Dancers are the most amazing to watch because they go into motion into the most bizarre movements fluidly, for what appears to be non ready positions. If you're not thoroughly confused..... With video analyze your movement/ transitions. From last shot to moving stopping to next shot.... Try and cut out any movement you don't need. When doing box jumps, make sure to stand up completely.... You'll want that complete hip extension. Without getting too complicated look into these additional plyometrics, quick drills or ladder drills, skipping rope, adding lateral, forward, rear movement From landing box jump. Hit me up when you need more....... Looks like you already have some good drills. What your preaching goes high on list for training tips.
  25. Welcome!!! From my limited experience , definitely need more women!!!! Act as if your a grandmaster. I have mad respect to any woman that shows up.
