  1. I have a ced 8000. I got a great deal on it. I've never used another one. It does what I nned it to do and the price was right . I'm curious as to why it wasn't mentioned. It's 9v
  2. look up shuttle runs box jumps and tire flips are great for acceleration
  3. i love how this went from lee press to the .......Moon!!! get some lee dies, get a single stage or better yet get a turret, a mic, bullet pulller, start making practice rounds. start small get your feet wet... jump in the water is fine.... (i may have a lee hand press in storage) (maybe someone here has something collecting dust) (check craigs list) ( i already checked cinncinati craigs list) i'd bet you'd get a decent return on investment when its time to upgrade (but chances are you'll keep it) when its time to jump in the deep end you'll know and be better off for it by starting small and learning the process, it will all low you to make even more intelligent decisions, not to mention speeding up the learning curve. the time for action has arrived for you...... with all due respect....... shut up and start loading ( making practice rounds) ....... (respectfully bashing) "if you spend too much time thinking about a thing you'll never get it done"--- bruce lee when you get dies and press, mic en route, I will send you a small box of brass and bullets to practice with!!!!!! (this offer expires in 15 days) (now i'm going back to the reloading)
  4. "super low motion" from 29 july post" OK now i'm having rimfire gun lust.......
  5. i have the Enos book somewhere in storage. Other than that what is the one book you would suggest for new shooter.
  6. who is seeklander and what is draw technique? what is your RFPO?
  7. I did see one at local store. it does protrude from barrel a little bit more so on smaller calibers. the dragging issue is questionable depending on type of holster and drawing style..... i determined with my 1911 and current holster no issues in spite of the flurry of responses to this thread.... ......i ordered it anyway..... my google-fu must be off base unit was available on line last week at much lower price....... not same price today? i suppose wally world on line has some magical pricing structure ( im wondering if they have some algorithm that changes prices) i still found a good deal, on a package, about 30% off of MSRP. ill post more details and reviews after its in my hands
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong. The bullet seater also taper crimps if set up properly..... If all dies and bullets and brass are correct...you should... Well I do 99.99% of the time....... Get a cartridge that chambers and functions appropriately. " Lee 9MM LUGER/38 SUPER/38 ACP/380 AUTO Taper Crimp Die, overcomes crimp problems caused by poor die design. Offers little or no advantage when used with 1986 or newer Lee Dies as the crimp angle is already a modified taper crimp". I didn't say it... lee did. I have a suspicion that some are using the fcd as swaging device not a crrimping device. The 9mm cartridge tapers slightly it is not a straight walled case.....if something is not right.... Bullet Dia. Case thickness, concentricity of bullet when seating. Can induce bulge usually at or near base of bullet in loaded cartridge. This bulge will cause failure to feed. No enters the fcd....take mis shaped cartridge say oval....now force it through a circle die . It basically forces parts of cartridge back to round... Now the cartridge is now within spec and round. So what gives .... Lead , brass , both.??? Unless you are trying to crimp into cannelure, Whole different conversation. Then yes on fcd. So in a nutshell some think it's a crutch. To fix problems induced in earlier stages of reloading.... Most will agre that swaging will create less accurate cartridge.
  9. what are your sight issues? how are your Rx shooting glasses set up I've been doing alot of research. optometry appt. next wed.
  10. got timer from (CED 8000) storage..... bought new battery (when did 9 volts get so expensive) and immediately went to range the world is going to turn for me!!!!!! first time training with timer in over 5 years looking forward to improving! reaction time avg....... .29 fastest reaction .26 best bill drill from , sights on target (1/3 scale @ 3 yards) 1.55 4-A , 1-C, 1-D fastest split of day .17 longest split of day .51 (peeking vs, calling) holsters/mag pouches ordered odd note i feel like i can handle 1911 better. thinking it is grip size i took off right side grip panel on cz sp01... times were faster with narrower grip. i have huge hands i never thought i'd ever say that i prefer smaller grip. more testing to come It is 10 time more fun shooting with timer.... and less ammo too..... got checked off for "rapid fire" at range today 1/3 scale uspsa target @ 3 yards .... 2 singles touching, double one hole, double one hole, ALL A Zone body. was reloading for triples he said never mind you've passed....... I forgot how much fun shooting on a timer is!!!!!!

    drifting sight

i want to drift my rear sight a bit. looking for a tutorial/help/suggestions?
  12. welcome back i used to live in socal the toys are are a bit funner here in FL I too am looking forward into picking your brain maybe you can keep a diary of how you are training back and how you are training your sons, can i be one of your adopted (internet) sons
  13. i looking for measurements with thin and thick aluminum grips please indicate maker. even if you have something different like http://www.shootingsportsinnovations.com/TANFO-SCALES-BLACK-TFBLK001.htm vz's, coco whatever measure below finger guard i have seen width measurements not circumference
  14. my testing is limited to what the auto disc will throw for pistol its accurate enough
  15. i didn't suck i had a blast my big mistakes fumbling reload (no mag pouches), not using gun with night sights, FTN trained simulated draw to single and double
  16. ".....I've been pissing away a lot of time looking at gun stuff online - if I spent half that time making ammunition I'd probably be in pretty good shape...... :)" Sage advice young jedi, add shooting, and training to that statement a true jedi you will become smartest thing ive heard in along time ..... im going to crank out some 9mm
  17. if you haven't bought yet look at some of the lee package likse steve posted above. im not a big fan of the lee scale.... but a cheap digi will also work fine im ok with harbor freight calipers.( its no starrett) .... all of mine were calibrated to higher tolerances than what press allows and i have compared to HF to high dollar mics.
  18. again if i was doing testing with your method... i'd be inclined towards the data with lower ES/SD then i'd shoot for groups.... then compare grouping to data youll eventually see diminishing returns in your data. oh high and low side ..... and you'll start to see what range is acceptable for given powder and bullet. but again larger sample size and larger range of powder +1 what sarge said on batteries... don't get cheap ones... get the good top of the line batteries. it makes calculations a bit more difficult but when you chrono try shooting one bullet 3.5 grn wait 10 sec then 3.8 wait then 4.1 wait then 4.4 wait. lather rinse repeat. this way it spreads potential error from fouling chamber temp etc etc etc the recompile the info on spread sheet later.
  19. shot first idpa indoor club match.. i don't think i totally sucked borrowed holster, reloaded from pocket shot 1911 .45 , only holster i could borrow 1911 has fiber optic front... we shot low light/no light.... i iron manned it no flashlight i really need to get that cz holster (has night sights) i had one FTN (no light) i didnt shoot my self, i read j1b's diary re: AD/ shooting leg BIG THANKS i should have gotten procedural or 2 but it was first time..... (finger on trigger, and cover) i really didn't do any research on IDPA gaming, but will overall best $7 ive spent in a long time luckily i had a bit of one hand shooting training last week i fumbled reload in dark didnt slam mag in....... i was only one shooting single stack GREAT FIRST EXPERIENCE!!!!! I learned alot ill post scores when i see them
  20. im not against FCD but when i started 9mm i started with a 3 die set no FCD, and now see no reason to get one most problems induced can be tuned out by setting up 3 dies set up correctly (and it was a struggle to get dies set up perfectly) some indicate that FCD die is a crutch and fixing issues that should have been fixed earlier in process thing is my .45 acp setup has FCD. but am rethinking it after setting up 9mm fcd does not replace case gauge. fcd doesnt necessarily account for bullets with long COAL. but will account for bulge issues, fcd may swage bullet, move brass so its can be a band aid not a cure. (my bulge isssue came from brass issues...now culling certain headstamps) also coating loaded cartridge with sharpie... and chambering... will indicate contact surface on problem bullets.
  21. Extreme spread I wouldn't sweat the reults at this point. Your sample size of 10 is a bit small... There are multiple variables...often bench rest shooters will throw out extreme high and extreme low. Under the assumption it was a error induced somewhere. What was time between shots, Chrono error,Powder load, case volume.temperature.humidity,barometric pressure, neck tension, case variables, ransom vs. hand held, ( short list ) all can create variances in data. You are also new to reloading your ES / SD will come down with better more consistent technique alone. If you really want better data results, and analyzing data look into some bench rest forums. Recalculate es/sd without extreme high and low........ I wouldn't get too wrapped up in data. You'll want to look at data over larger sample size. Personally speaking I've spent countless hours on data collection and analysis vs. shooting time. If I planned on shooting bullseye then maybe, big maybe spend more time collecting data. Then maybe at elite level of competition. Once you get in the ball park on a load. I think it's more important to measure groups. From yiour shooting position. At a distant that is within you skill competition level. Then look at it as what load is most accurate for me. Minute of A zone accuracy.
  22. if on very slow deliberate shots you are closer to to center but on faster shots are consistently off (but still within A zone) do you correct sight for deliberate slow or shoots a quick pace

LUCKY!!!! thanks for posting...... lesson learned!
  24. i have it it works but ill prolly upgrade when get the space/ cash/ start shooting more i have RCBS scale and the lee auto discs put me in safe zone "for my powder", but double check, and I use the disk system...Minute of A zone accuracy MOAz
