  1. Three t.v.s in this household of five, of which I am the only male. I bought two new pistols, renovated my SDB, found this forum, and bought Steve Anderson'd books this year.( Got BE's last year, that's how I found the forum) Only reason I'm not dryfiring or reloading is post-surgery recouperation. And man it is KILLING ME! Not the pain, just the fact that I live in a warm climate and my guns and gear have been idle since the 17th. Oh well, I'll stop crying like a baby. JZ

    Can you read this?

Some people are sight readers and some are not. Wife's a teacher and was a reading coach for several years. Strange thing is that how you read can have very little to do with comprehension. The way the mind decodes or fails to is quite an interesting topic. I showed her that and she pulled out a book and showed me something similar.
  3. Neomet, My grand father was like a father to me in that it was he who helped to teach me those things a man should know while my father waged his ongoing battle in his head with what he went through in Vietnam. As time goes on, I find myself saying those things I heard him say to me, like " Don't be sorry, be right" or doing things he taught me measure twice cut once, etc. It is at those moments that I realize that in many ways he is such a part of me that he cannot ever really leave me. He passed from this world, yes, but he passed on to me those things that have helped make me me. Even simple things like a BIG bowl of ice cream, and the love and appreciation for fine domestic hardwoods and a good hand rubbed finish came from him. I imagine, thinking of how you described your father, that you too have his indelible print on your thoughts and soul. It is at those times, you will smile, and maybe even cry, but be happy to have had him as your father. Our prayers go out to you and your family, JimmyZip
  4. How funny, that's where I grew up, and I live really close to where they did that shoot.( Probably 2 miles) We used to hunt rabbits and coyotes out there. I think this would have been alot more fun. BTW, I Don't know how to classify this. No mag. computerized sights, Limited 1-Open?
  5. Dryfire? I just got Steve Andersons books. They are helping quite a bit. They are laid out well like a manual. Hey, and they are having a deal on both the books still, I think. JimmyZip edited for spelling
  6. What I want to know then, what about all the 13-14 rd. mags that I have had for years? I cant find any stamp at all on them that proves they were made before or after the ban. How can anyone prove one way or the other that my mags are pre or post ban?
  7. Congrats! I've been practaacing with Steve's book also. You give newbies like me alot of hope, honestly. Thanks, JimmyZip
  8. FedEx says they LOST my bullets!? Holster arrived thanks TonyH. Books arrived, thanks Mr. Anderson. I could really use those bullets. Still no Front Sight!
  9. Steve Andersons books just arrived today! I like the layout and plan on just hitting the dryfire hard. I haven't been this excited about my mail ever . I'll let you know how it goes. JZ
  10. Just read a thread on how fast someone got their bullets so fast! Where the %* are mine? And my new barrel? And my Front Sight? I just hope the mail grants my wishes on Mon. JimmyZip
  11. I've been dryfiring and practicing now for two months. Before I never would practice, but now I do and went to my first shoot where I tried to put it all together. This was a "stock gun" shoot held at our local club and what they mean is no full race holsters, and 10 round max if you shoot an auto. So I shot well until I developed some ammo problems at the 4th stage. Until then I was in the top three for our squad. So my question is, have you ever seemed to almost have little to no recollection of the stage you just finished? It seems that the first three that I shot, and shot well( some of my best reloads, transitions, accuracy vs. speed, mapping out of the stage) I almost cant remember shooting except the ULSC part. What is up with that? Even when I thought to myself that I should shoot tighter to get A's on the second stage(which I did) I can't remember seeing the sights or much in retrospect. It just kind of all came out. I just remember feeling really good and I can only remember the stages that I had trouble on. And THOSE I CAN'T FORGET! Like a bad movie going around over and over! Just wondering if this happens to any of you? JimmyZip
  12. Thanks y'all! Well, I took a look at the pistol again today. It is parkerized, not blued. It shows wear through the finish on the sides of the slides flat surface, but no rust or pitting. It shoots well and has a nice trigger pull. The guy who brought it back from the Pacific is the father-in-law of my friend. He gave it to him to sell originally. Now he has told my friend to just keep it which he is going to do. It is amazing that this pistol looks so good! It is also amazing how well it shoots! I have several pistols and rifles that pre-date this pistol, but my Great Grandfather was a master gunsmith, and those firearms saw no action outside deer or elk hunting.Kudos to the Marines! They obviously taught their men to take care of their sidearms.
  13. Leave it! It will block the same thing from happening again.
  14. I don't drink, so no bars. I don't drink coffee, heart issues. I don't do drugs, heart/moral/legal/etc. issues. I'm married with children. I'm not into strange( you know what I mean) But I have my vices! I shoot, I reload, and when I want to stay up and get crazy I turn on Napster and get on this forum! Because you guys rock! And, you let me play too!
  15. Beautiful! What does a pistol like that weigh? Just curious, congratulations
  16. ZHunter, Sent the check for $25 out this afternoon. It should get to you before you leave! I hope I win! I hope I win! I hope I win! JimmyZip
  17. Yes indeed as you are one person I was hoping ot hear a reply from. Thanks people, Ill keep you updated as the year goes by, and maybe buy a gun off one of you at the end of the year. Budget by the way will be around $1500 with extra mags.If I can get some good side work I should have no problems putting away about twice that. That leaves me enough for a press, dies, and maybe even a rig. Thanks, JimmyZip
  18. What about the caliber? .45 or .40? Which is cheaper to reload?
  19. Flex, ruready, What about drawing and aquiring your target during dryfire? It seemed to have helped me on my first shot accuracyand speed.
  20. Flex, I am wrong. What I mean is limited. As of now I shoot a BHP that has a Barsto barrel, Millet sights, ambi safety, beveled magwell, Pachmayer grips. I shoot a similar pistol with an extended barrel with comp cuts for the local steel matches.
  21. I shoot a Browning HiPower in 9mm and I will be shooting limited this season as a new full-fledged member of USPSA. I have been shooting the same type of pistols for a long time as some of you may have heard. What I like about these pistols is that they run well out of the box. What I mean by well is that they are reliable. I have owned many HiPowers and can honestly say that not one of them has been a dud as far as reliability. So here goes my question, if you wanted a reasonably priced pistol in major caliber, that will reliably feed whatever you give it out of the box, what would it be? I really prefer single action and I am on a limited budget. I like high capacity also. The pistols that I have tried and liked are CZs, Glocks. Tangfolios, and a few 1911's. Which 1911's are good out of the box guns? What about .40 vs .45? I do reload and will be getting a new press for this gun whatever it is. I dont mind getting a trigger job done, or putting sights on it, but I do not want to have my pistol jamming on me when I shoot. While I do practice clearing malfunctions, I have had few with my Brownings. The reason I am asking this is that I want to shoot major caliber after this season and am beginning to sock away funds for next seasons pistol. If I do well this season with what I have I may wait until I feel that being minor is the only thing holding me back. But when the time comes I want to be sure as I can be that I am getting the most reliable and servicable gun for my money. So with your experiences, and time in the game, what would you suggest?
  22. That was evil, Thanks for the insight on porst and tubes. I really haven't put much thought into this but since this is my first official season in the sport, ( a member of USPSA) it is nice to get some insight into these things. JimmyZip
  23. Tightloop, Well that is gooood chili. That is real chili. I used some quality chili powder that Mom gave me this year and Hungarian Paprika. It was straight ahead, no frills, solid chili. Me likee mucho! I will freeze portions in small zip-locs for hot dog night. I asked my wife to make cornbread and it was just great! Thanks again for reinforcing why I come to this sight. I've gotten great tips on shooting, reloading, solid jokes, and even a couple of recipes. JimmyZip
