  1. Was practicing draw and reloads tonight and could feel things getting smoother and quicker as time went by. I was thinking though how one would time onesself? I do this alone in my garage and use a small dog bed to catch my mags. Great fun, can feel progress, but want to quantify this progress. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jimmy
  2. If the gun has a comp, it is in the open division. You can add pretty much anything to it. You want to get a hard copy of the USPSA rule book? Join USPSA and they will send you one! Later, Chuck Chuck, thank you for the clarification, and tonight I joined USPSA as a result of your advice. To the others who answered as well thank you. I love my Brownings and now own three. I do not plan on changing so don't bother even suggesting it. I may go to 40. but I will be shooting a HiPower when I do! I have a stock gun, and one that doesn't have an extended barrel. It's just that my long barrel shoots so well! But then I always thought that I ran faster with new shoes when I was a kid
  3. I have a HiPower with a 6" barrel, ambi safety, Millet sights, Pachmyer grips. The barrel has comp cuts. I use 13rd magazines. I like the long barrel because it shoots a little flatter and it may sound crazy. but it just points great that way. I was wondering if it was now considered an open gun and if so then maybe I wouild get a magwell from EGW and a dot on top. Another guy at our range shoots a dot on his HiPower and says he loves it. Also, how do you go about getting a hard copy of the current USPSA rule book? Thanks, Jimmy
  4. From one noob to another, I have found loads of info here. I have even found other places to shoot near me. ( still looking) Jimmy

Scott, what is four position rifle? Standing, Kneeling.Sitting, Prone? What are the distances? Is there a sanctioning body involved so tht I may find this type of match closer to home?

    Which one?

Japenese or Thai? I cant even answer that. Hot, definitely hot. Onion rings or French Fries?

    1967 vs. 2007

Graduated H.S. in Indio CA in '87. When in middle school we shot rabbits and dove in the vast tracts of vacant desert that are now golf courses. Sherrifs deputies would tell us the best places! We were POACHING! In High School there were several designated smoking areas where you could bum a smoke from a teacher or they from you! I even gave my English teacher Skoal Bandits for his birthday, and he was a hunting buddy of my friends. Yeah, things have changed, but quickly too because I'm only 38 and by the time I was 25 those days were over.

    Which one?

Hmmm. Steak with kosher salt, Seared Ahi, or Sashimi? Yeah, I used to think it was gross too, until I tried some!
  9. Was an Electrician for 17 years. Now I'm Production Manager for EcoForm. We make plastic coated formboard for the concrete industry. After stripping your forms you can reuse this stuff quite a few times. Less trees used for formboard, less money spent on formboard. Ecofriendly, Economical. And the crew I work with, are a great group of people. Also the proud and tired father of three little girls ages 7, 5, and 1 on the 16th. They are the best!
  10. SAFriday I never flinched with a rifle, but for some reason, pistols were a real problem. Dad did the Magnum thing with me, cured it right up. Maybe it's not for everyone but it worked for me. .41, not a .44 bot it still had the same effect. Wasz, Humans generally don't like loud things. It really is unnatural to be around all that noise. If it were so easy, none of us would have ever heard of flinching at all. The encouraging thing is that she continues to like shooting. Many have grown discouraged or just plained disinterested much sooner

    My Dad

Here's to my Pop who originally got me into this sport in 1981. As a young pup shooting a 38 revolver he gave me I was greatful for my first pistol. (Even though I had to peplace the barrel with my paper route money, blown forcing cone from shooting hot loads ala Great-Grandpa Woodhouse) Now he just called this morning to tell me that he has ordered a new barrel for me from Barsto. What a guy. Things I love? My Old man! Thanks Dad, only wish you still lived out here so we could go punch some paper and knock some plates.

    Cold

You may hate the cold, but you could have the heat in the summer.(Here we can get above the 120's in the Summer) And with our great weather, we get strange people that come here to play Golf all day long. I lived on the Kitsap peninsula one year and had ten days of sun in a year. I find it funny, growing up in the desert that I absolutely love the wet, wet, wet, cool/cold Northwest. But yeah, 2F is way too cold for me.
  13. Why 147s though? I'm curious. Also, how does powder affect a bullets travel? Isn,t that the barrel? Hope this thead isn't drifting. Thanks for the answer though, what are you paying per pound for that powder?
  14. I was driving home last night and noticed that my right eye does not see as clearly for distance as does my left. As I am right-handed I was wondering if it was possible to train your left eye to do your sighting. I was recently checked by an eye doctor and he says I'm 20/20 in my right and 20/15 in my left. ( I hope I explained that correctly) So while I see well enough with my right eye, because my left sees better, was wondering if there was any benefit or detriment to try and train it to be my sighting eye as it is already fairly dominant in all other aspects.
  15. I was looking at bullet prices and wondering if any of you had experience with Mid States cast bullets. I shoot a HiPower in 9mm and was looking to get more bullets. The pistol seems to eat whatever I feed it and while I haven't loaded any cast bullets, friends say that they are just fine. So I guess my questions are; Mid States, good or bad? What is better 147gr. or 125gr. I shoot mostly steel. And finally, will there be a better powder for lead? I currently use Titegroup and have wondered if it is the best for lead. Thanks once again for your knowledge. It' nice to know that there are people out there that I can ask these questions and not feel nervous just to ask.
  16. Run N Gun, That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much! The brass was 9mm of various ages and some makes that I can't recall ever seeing before even though I useed to shoot some strange stuff( Czech SMG ammo with steel jacket and steel core, or various Izreali,Chinese, Etc.) Anyways thanks again. JimmyZip
  17. I've recently began reloading after a long hiatus from the shooting sports. I was lucky to find about 3K of old brass in my garage that I ran through my tumbler and began reloading. Some has date marks as old as 43. Was wondering if there is a database or book that could be referenced to find out who and when brass was manufactured?
  18. My brother-in-law gave me some Hodgdon Titegroup and some 124gr. FMJ that a friend of his who was getting out of reloading gave him. The powder is un opened and I was wondering if any of you have a load for 9mm that uses these together? If so what was the characteristic of the load? Pushy? Snappy? Also, does this powder burn cleanly? I also bought some once fired brass from Powder Valley. What if any have been your experience with it.
  19. What ia a Bill Drill? I hear this time and time again and it doesn't come up with the search. Also, some goos reloading drills. Oh and that avatar, wow!
  20. Alamo, Thank you, I will look into that. I really appreciate that and even those of you who don't seem to agree with my ideas have given me something to think about with my next project gun.
  21. There was an optical sight that I saw at the range Sunday on a stainless HiPower that I can't recall the brand at this point. It fit well in the dovetail that the stock rear sight was in. Yes I know of the limitations that the Browning has. My father gave me a comped HiPower that he built in '79 to make Major with. I used to shoot that steel jacketed SMG ammo in it and when the barrel finally went south, he put another BarSto barrel in it and I put the stock recoil springs in it and shot it from '84 to '87. That pistol and another HiPower that I had were stolen from my house in 2000. So I am just trying to get a pistol that shoots similar with maybe some updates. If I wanted to shoot major, then I would probably build something on a double-stack 1911 chassis in .40. But as of now I'm just sticking with the 9mm until all my young ones are out of daycare and my truck is paid off, etc. etc. Is there an optical sight that fits the top of the slide that you find preferable? Is it better to mount the sight above the slide like I've seen on many raceguns, and why? Do you really get that much better recovery when the sight is mounted in such a fashion? Well enough question, I guess some research is in order.
  22. eerw, Thanks for the heads up on EGW, I will call them today. Alamo, I began practical shootin at 12 years old witha wheel gun and got my first HiPower in '83. So while I have been away from this sport for 15 years, it is what I know, and while I compete mostly with myself, I find littlereason to change.
