  1. L.A. or LA ??? LA like Los Angeles or LA like Louisiana, which Lynn covered? Does Speed Shooters (speedshooters.com) have a retail store, or are they just mail order? They are in the Los Angeles-area. They carry Rudy Project, but not Peltor. Lee
  2. For that, a chronograph would be necessary to be sure. Buy or borrow. Lee

    Big guns

You want big? Is 600 Nitro Express in a revolver big enough? http://www.pfeifer-waffen.at/Zeliska2.pdf Me, I would put on a full-face helmet before shooting the thing. Lee
  4. There is always the option to ask Accurate ... http://www.accuratepowder.com/askatech.htm Lee
  5. From the app: I am classified, but in L10, which this match does not apparently recognize. I am not classified in Limited, so what does "shoot for overall results only" mean? Thanks, Lee
  6. I did an experiment with several headstamps of brass, and I separated Winchester large-hole into its own bin. I only tried .45 brass, but the larger flash hole had no impact on velocity, when compared to other types of Winchester. Going to different brands (R-P, PMC) made a bigger difference. Lee
  7. All on the same stage, 3 on each side, chained together. Not disappearing targets since some of the top of the target was still exposed. It was fun. ...and a swinging walkway. Alex, my camera needed more light since it was so cloudy, and flash photography is rude to the shooters, so no photos from me. As for suggestions for next year, the staff was trying to figure out how to put a star on a mover. Heh. Lee
  8. Erik, Yes. That particular rifle's barrel is marked "5.56". That reminds me ... I need to check with the builder of my 3-gun upper about its chamber. xsrdx, How big are those flashers? Thanks. I really need to pick one brand and stick to it. Of course, going to the range and testing a new lot is its own kind of fun. Lee
  9. Q3131 got that reputation a few years ago. See Ammunition FAQ for some experience (scroll about halfway down). I shot some Q3131 during that period (1999/2000) and had so many problems, that I will never buy Q3131, just to be sure I never get a bad lot. After firing, the brass stuck to the bolt, would not feed, all kinds of things. So, Erik, your problems with Q3131 are not surprising. Q3131A is ok; Win white box with box codes like USA223R1 is ok. No more Q3131 for me. Lee
  10. Liota, what is "MOAS" ? Granted, forecasting weather is inexact, but weather.com says a high in the 50's and a 40% chance of showers Sunday. 70's would be nice, but I do NOT melt in a little rain. Lee
  11. Natchez Shooters has Remington RR Slugs $2.33/5 on sale. So if you want a case of 250, the Ammoman price looks good. Too bad I just bought a bunch of RRR. Lee
  12. Eric, Why would post-ban rifle prices drop much? Add a feature or two, and its value is the same as the pre-bans which people paid too much for over the last few years. I would guess the preban prices will take the big hit. The MecGar 10 rounders work well for me; here's hoping for full capacity mags at budget prices. I heard a shooter comment that the S_I mags were never low cost, and that they probably never will be. We will see. Lee (glad to have departed California)
  13. No, no, that is trying to find a solution. Back onto philosophy/viewpoint, Ok, so if I am an L10 or P shooter, I may as well shoot Lim for a 3-gun match? So, the question is: How do we balance not giving an unfair scoring advantage to L10/P/R and still allowing a place for L10/P/R to be competitive? Maybe another way to look at it is, how to prevent an unfair scoring advantage for L10/P/R without putting them/me at a competitive disadvantage? I understand long guns are scored in the aggregate, too. I have 14 round magazines for my P14-45, and I guess I could get extensions to add a few rounds. Will I need to do this to be more competitive in USPSA 3-gun matches? Of course, there is always the "But, honey, they changed the rules, I have to get an expensive new gun and mags just to keep up". Good thing I moved out of California. Well, that was good, regardless. My eyeballs are spinning, I need to stop typing. Lee (L10, USPSA Tactical Rifle, Standard Shotgun)
  14. Anyway... Not so much a 45 or 40 or super thing, but people used to pay good money to shoot 38 special wadcutters from a 1911. That is like feeding an empty, kindof. Lee
  15. I defer on this one, but the collective wisdom is to never use the rifled choke for 3-gun when the slugs are already rifled. Stick to the IC or modified. The rifled choke is for other (non-rifled) slugs. It might be best to find a place where you can sight it in with different chokes, and pattern the shot. Oh, yes, and be sure to screw the choke in tightly before the match..... Lee
  16. Kschwan, 1,2. Birdshot: Remington #7.5, 3 1/4 dr, 1 1/8 oz (I think they are Heavy Dove loads) at my local Academy for $3.89/box. Some buckshot in case there are longer range, steel targets. I am shooting up a variety of reduced recoil 00B, but some suggest using #4B because it may spread better (need to test the patterns). Slugs: Remington Reduced Recoil from Sportsman's Guide, but I have used Federal "Tactical" slugs, although that was before I got the CM. (What is "tactical" about reduced recoil? I digress...). 3. I have used armband and sidesaddle. Even both may not hold enough rounds to complete some stages, even starting with 9 in the gun, so I will probably add a belt carrier. I shot a stage which required slugs, then birdshot, then slugs. Keeping enough shot handy but having a separate location for slugs would have been good for that stage. For shotgun-only stages, you have much flexibility. With multi-gun stages, keep in mind you may be carrying long gun(s) and handgun and ammo for all. So where to carry it all? 4. What warpspeed said. Seems like I heard of a match with a 35-40 round stage, but I cannot find a reference now. Somewhere along the way I realized I am using both slugs and shot from Remington, so they are both green, and it is easier to accidently load a slug for a shot target, or vice versa. I am thinking about color-coding, so maybe shot or slugs will get a change. Lee
  17. I hate when a match is cancelled because rain is merely forecast. It rained just enough to spot the car..... Yep, 2 Austin classifiers and 2 San Antonio matches cancelled for rain, or snow, which is unusual. These clubs are very good about email notifications (thanks, Chet, et al). Also a Somerville 3-gun cancelled, although the match organizers let us shoot for practice. The targets were setup, why not? The "other" San Antonio club had a classifier last month so I am now classified. It was shot partially in the rain. I am having trouble getting trigger time under match conditions. May have to shoot some IDPA. Lee
  18. On another site: M-1911 Disassembly. Re-assembly is easy, compared to assembling the bolt on an M1, or the stock on an FAL. Everything can be done with two hands. Lee
  19. Fiber optic front sight is a good thing..... Benny has described the Remington Competition Master with a Choate magazine tube. It also has a bead partway down the barrel rib. If you want to take the time, you can line up bead and FO for a long slug shot. AFAIK, Remington does not sell the 22" CM barrel separately, not yet at least. Lee
  20. Carbine or handgun? I used to shoot reduced loads of Win 296, although I do not recall seeing any of the warnings from Winchester which they publish today, so I would not go as low today as I did then. The published load was 13.0 to 15.0 gr of 296 with a 110 gr bullet; and I went some below that. It made a nice load for the Blackhawk, and still allowed MY carbine to function. And reduced loads in the carbine made it easier to find the brass. Again, Winchester now warns against downloading 296. What are you using it for? The SP bullets sound like some hunting application.... Lee
  21. Certainly not to Microsoft's coding standards. My mother has IT help; I do not need such help An executeable delivered by html requests require a web server to host the malicious content, so a user gets it thinking it is something else. One way is for a hacker to change "good" content into something malicious. As soon as a "good" web host knows the content is malicious, it will be removed. Delivery of the malicious content will be stopped as soon as it discovered, so this method does not spread it very fast. Great for Spyware, bad for viruses. The new "anti-virus" programs include spyware detection/removal, but I have not upgraded yet. Lee
  22. Cold Ethyl, You said "USPSA", so from the Red Book 14th Edition, Shotgun Standard Division, "Maximum Shotgun Length = NO". Any barrel length looks ok for USPSA Standard (and the new Tactical aggregate). However, IMGA rules specify 22" max barrel length (and 23" max magazine length), so if you want a gun for both rule sets, that is the limit, and your 24" Gold is too long for IMGA matches to be in Tactical. Lee
  23. Spybot has lots of attention; another product is Ad-aware. Here is a link to a comparison. Ad-aware seems to be better, and this review dings Spybot for some useability problems. But my installation of Spybot does not exhibit the problem they describe. Detlef, yes, it could do "del *.*" or trash the registry or email itself out. Nothing can stop that sort of program once it is on your computer and launched; it is really more virus than just a trojan. So keep your virus software up to date. For me, it is worth paying the virus companies, for peace of mind if nothing else. Lee
  24. Rhino, the "pull" would be longer, considering the difference in case length of .22LR vs. 308 and such. For OZ-philes, a Shot Show report on another forum reports an Aussie company making a No.4 type rifle in 308 which takes M14 magazines, and importing it to the USA. Not an L1A1 and not FAL mags, but interesting. Might not be better than the Savage/CZ/Tikka route, regarding cost vs. performance Lee
  25. Grind the handle off an upper? You guys are severe. Gary, Tactical is USPSA only, right? The original question was IPSC, and the poster's profile puts him in the Phillippines. Maybe he will chime back in. Lee
