Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Do a search on ParTimer. I posted a link to a windows program I wrote about a year ago that should do it for you. It's what I use. It should still be available at the link. If not, PM me.
  2. I got my wife an iPod for Christmas. So, as her tech support, I started using iTunes and checking out PodCasts. I was looking for a Podcast on Practical Shooting - or even any kind of shooting. Didn't find much. Anyone know of any?
  3. Jeff, I know there are some guys at the DSC interested in the class. Please be sure to send us the info when available.
  4. Best advice is to shoot what you have for now. If you ask around to someone who shoots your caliber, you are pretty likely to find someone who will let you visit and load on their press for an afternoon with your components. Its also a great way to learn about reloading and what you need to buy. I loaded my first 2500 rounds on someone else's press. There are also guys at my club who live close to each other and split the cost of the press. If you go 9MM, get one that is production legal (not the SA). The reason is that you will be shooting Minor power factor, and that is only competitive in Production Division. If you like the CZ, the CZ 85 Combat gives you the option of starting SA, or DA once you are comfortable with manual de-cocking. It's what I have, and I really like it. To be honest, even with the option I never start in SA mode. Since I shoot Production starting DA, I have trouble remembering to release the safety in SA mode - I would have to make a fairly long term switch to get used to it. I've shot a few classifers in other divisions just to get them on the books, as well as PPC, and still started DA so as not to screw myself up. On the reloading note - I save about 5 cents a round loading 9mm. I put about $500 into a press and basic reloading equipment, and calculated payback at about 10,000 rounds - about 12 - 14 months for me. And, I have custom loaded ammo that shoots softer than factory. I sold my wife on a 1 year payback on the investment with no problem. Other calibers payback sooner, but it still saves me $5-600 a year, every year from now on going forward.

  6. Just installed the patch - fixed the problem. Since Flex mentioned it, I would also like to see the "enhancement" for people switching between A and TY. Any ETA on that?
  7. I like it, can I use it (with proper accredidation, of course). So, here is a question. What is the etiquite of using stages you see posted, or in a match at a distant club - or variations? Is this OK with proper accredidation, or don't do it? Dennis
  8. So, if someone is shooting 2 guns and he DQs, do you DQ him for both guns?
  9. I deleted lines from the classification file until I has less than 32,000 lines, and that cleared up the problem. Fortunately I didn't delete any for a person in our match. I just started at the beginning of the file and started deleting - looked like mostly low numbers and life members. I'm looking forward to the patch. Any ETA?
  10. This is from the USPSA site, dated May 4: <QUOTE> The Update Classifications routine does not update classifications for TY members who have four digit or fewer numbers An error in the code prevented the program from completely reading the list of updated classifications with the result that some classified competitors were declassified. Resolution: Corrected with the May 2005 patch (maint_v225_20050504.exe) (available soon) </QUOTE> Has anyone seen this patch? I'm having this problem, but it's not just limited to 4 digit numbers. All mine with problems have 5, one has a F prefix instead of a TY prefix. This is a PITA becasue I end up having to look up classifications in the text file manually - AAAARRRRRG. Can anyone help?
  11. I going to be in Cincinnati in August and was going to stop in Miamisburg to shoot the local match on my way back to Michigan. Is this your stomping grounds?
  12. I noticed a similar thing in my last practice with my CZ 85. What I'm trying is a peice of skateboard tape on the trigger. Too early to be sure it really helps, but does not seem to hurt. I had asked one of the more experienced guy's at the range. His response is what I pass on to you - can't hurt to try it.
  13. I think plywood would be better than MDF. Bolting to the wall would aleviate much of the need for mass, so what you need is some rigidity. MDF is just not that rigid. Pick a peice up at a home center and see how much it flexes compared to equally thick ply wood. Someone on a woodworking forum called MDF "Glorified Cardboard", and directed me to use plywood.
  14. EzWinScore doesn't really network, what you are doing is trading files back and forth, and having a shared network drive is one way to do it. If you don't know network drives, its not worth the effort since even with a network there is not a real time link between EzWinScore on the two machines. At the Michigan State Match we used a USB thumb drive - its easy, and in the end less total work than hassling with configuring file sharing over a network. I'm well versed in setting up a network, and decided is just wasn't worth the effort given how ExWinScore works. There is a whole section in the EzWinScore help file - read it all and play with it before trying it for a big match. Here's an overview: Step 1 Configure the match. On one computer set up the stages and register everyone just like any other match, except that there are 2 questions about if you have a multi computer setup, and which is a slave machine. Step 2 Create a Slave database file Go To File/Create Slave system Disk. Have it written to the thumb drive. Step 3 SAFELY remove the thumb drive and connect it to the second machine. Open the slave database on the second machine and enter scores. Scores can be entered on either system, but it is highly recomended that each computer be dedicated to certain stages to reduce confusion with which scores overlay which. Step 4 When you want to put the all the data together for a report, close EzWinscore on the slave system, SAFELY remove the Thumb Drive, put it in the master system, and do an Match/Import from Slave. I'm not sure if you have to, but I recomend doing all registrations on the master system. To get the updates to the slaves, import all the slave data into the master, then re-create the slave file. This is just an overview - read the help file. If you have a network the process is the same, its just that the file you are moving back and forth is on a network drive. It doesn't really cut out any steps.
  15. Yes, I see that now. Not a bug, just the way things are. Took a bit of thought to figure it out. For the anyone else still wondering, here is the example I ran through in my head to proive it to myself. You have a 2 stage match, each stage worth 100 stage points, You have 3 shooters: Shooter A: Limited Shooter B: Limited Shooter C: Open We'll show how shooters A & B could swap positions Stage one hit factors: Shooter A: 10 Shooter B: 5 Shooter C: 7 Stage two hit factors: Shooter A: 4 Shooter B: 10 Shooter C: 20 In scoring for limited division only, high hit factors are 10 for staage 1 and 10 for stage 2. In scoring for limited division only, shooter A gets 100 (100%) stage points for stage 1 and 40 (40%) for stage 2 for a total of 140 stage points. In scoring for limited division only, shooter B gets 50 (50%) stage points for stage 1 and 100 (100%) for stage 2 for a total of 150 stage points. Shooter B beats shooter A in divisional scoring In match wide scoring, high hit factors are 10 for stage 1 and 20 for stage 2, so we have the following: In match wide scoring shooter A gets 100 (100%) stage points for stage 1 and 20 (20%) for stage 2 for a total of 120 stage points. In match wide only scoring shooter B gets 50(50%) stage points for stage 1 and 50 (50%) for stage 2 for a total of 100 stage points. Shooter A beats shooter B in match wide scoring Conclusion: We need both the shred button, and one that can copy all the "real" results into excel as well.
