  1. That's really cool that some of you can to see into the future and be certain that you don't like the new schedule before you've tried it. Can you tell us the results now also?
  2. I haven't tried the VZ ramp but the 10-8 scoop grip makes it much easier for me to hit the mag release compared to flat grips. I still need to shift the gun a little but I don't have to curl my thumb to press with the tip - the cut out in the grip falls pretty much right where my thumb needs to go.
  3. Two thoughts. One, if you are pointing the gun up when you break the 180 you may not be endangering others in the bay but if you have a ND that bullet has to come down somewhere. If you aren't pointing up and still think it is OK because when you have broken the 180 the gun hasn't been pointed at anyone, it is just a matter of time before it does endanger someone. Two, not get too tactical but if you are "going on auto-pilot" to "shoot the bad guys" while following the other rules of the game you're practicing some inappropriate tactics if you ever are in a real "shoot the bad guys" situation.
  4. I don't shoot much .45 so I got a .45 SDB and I leave my 1050 set up for small primers. It works well for a batch of one or two hundred and it is convenient to have it ready to use at any time but it gets a little tedious for any more in a sitting. You'll need to weigh the irritation of changing the 550's primer set up against the volume you'd load on the SDB.
  5. Posting this for Polle the stats queen: She will be there until 5:00pm Friday 1/28 for anyone who wants to pick up their packets, otherwise you can get them Saturday morning. There is a shooter's meeting at 7:00 Saturday morning with shooting to start at 7:30. Plan on shooting all day Saturday and then however long on Sunday it takes to finish what you didn't get to Saturday. Squad lists may (or may not) be posted on the web site. Polle can be reached at 480-235-6037 if you have any additional questions. This part is mine: Don't call to ask about squadding, she doesn't have that information. And if you call have some clue about the time of day and don't call at 3:00am just because it seems urgent to you. She volunteered her phone number over my objections.
  6. Don't think he is talking about LAMR.
  7. Have you tried the instructions in the manual? You can download it at: http://www.dillonhelp.com/manuals/english/Super-1050-Manual-May-2007.pdf I followed the instructions setting mine up but I don't know if it actually works because I have only loaded pistol calibers and haven't had any crimped pockets. It is good for finding small primer .45s
  8. Because there are many people out there who own rifles with a red dot and backup iron sights and this gives them a place to use them in competition. This isn't about sitting around trying to decide how to integrate some brand new technology into 3 gun, it is about how to find a place for a very common rifle configuration. I don't really have an opinion on whether or not tac iron is the place for them, but it seems silly to not want to let people shoot what they have because other divisions are more artificially defined with guns that are built to fit a division.
  9. You don't need a white roof - look for a place that does vehicle wraps (the cars/trucks covered in advertising graphics). It's all done by printing on adhesive vinyl that is applied over the paint. There might be a little show through with the black paint but that just means white areas could look slightly less bright than if it was over a light color. No regular person will notice. Just look for someone who does it full time and can show you some of the work they've done. Everybody with a large format printer is trying to do wraps these days and there is some crappy material being used.
  10. Well, I may have the reasoning all wrong but changing from "aim then press the trigger, then aim then press the trigger, ..." to attempting to aim continuously and shoot when the sights are where I want them has worked well for me .
  11. That is doing one thing (aiming) then switching to another (firing). What I mean is that you can be aiming as you fire. It is more applicable on difficult shots (or with a revolver!) but if your sights move while prepping or pressing the trigger, don't speed up or slow down but move them back as you are pressing the trigger.
  12. Also be sure you continue to aim while pressing the trigger to fire the shot. You probably do this when dry firing but when really shooting you may be doing it sequentially - aiming first, then transitioning to pressing the trigger, and if so you won't be aware of where the sights were when the shot broke.
  13. Put that out of your mind and just work on figuring out what you need to need to do to make your gun work - i.e. breaking the shot without disturbing the sight picture. Possible reasons: you are using a light grip that works with your light trigger single action guns but the M&P shifts as you press the heavier trigger (so clamp down harder with the support hand), the M&P doesn't have a distinct stop after taking up the pre travel/slack (pull through without feeling for the stop or have a trigger job done), or the trigger doesn't always break cleanly after taking up the slack so you may be jerking the gun down as you abruptly apply more pressure than you thought you'd need (this was the case with my M&P's factory trigger).
  14. I watched it in glorious full screen HD and I'll back you up on that for the reload, BUT at the start of unload & show clear your finger is hovering near the trigger as you release the magazine.
  15. Be careful, that is a long time and you need to be sure you are practicing correctly down to the last excruciating detail. Don't get tired and sloppy. Break it up into shorter sessions if necessary.
  16. Looks like you just aren't focusing on the reload - in the El Pres you appear to be looking at the targets, waiting impatiently to start shooting again. Shoot when you need to shoot, reload when you need to reload.
  17. I don't see how this could work as it would vary too much depending on the set up of the stages. If a stage was wide open and the L10 shooter had to do standing reload(s) he would likely do significantly better with a Limited gun. If it was multiple ports with six shots through each then the L10 shooter reloading on the move wouldn't give up as nearly as much to the higher capacity Limited gun. And although I don't think this is really a question about combined results, I like them. I want to know how I did relative to everyone in the match and I think most people understand the difference between official division results and combined "bragging rights" results.
  18. We probably don't disagree as much as it sounds like here, but let me put my twist on that as my final "parting shot". If you rely on your competition/range skills to manipulate a light trigger you may limit your ability to be safe when being bounced around in fight. And as this is a competitive shooting forum we likely should have only addressed the pros and cons of using a carry gun for matches rather that straying into giving advice on carry guns. (That would be my extremely subtle way of apologizing to the moderators for drifting outside the scope of the forum)
  19. I don't aim with my finger off the trigger, and then when I decide I'm on target and ready to fire do I move my finger inside the trigger guard and pull the trigger all in one motion. There is a period of time when aiming and having my finger on the trigger coincide. I understand if you don't think a light trigger is a problem during this phase - it is certainly just my opinion and I've probably drifted this thread enough!
  20. I think that would be a VERY bad thing to "plan" to do for the exact reason you stated. I also think having your finger on the trigger and not being prepared for the gun to go off at any instance is dangerous. I never plan to put my finger on the trigger until it is safe for it to go bang. Dump pure adrenaline in your veins and 1-2 is nothing, but to each his own. I know if my finger is on the trigger is can go off and if it isn't it won't. I did not say I expect to have my finger on the trigger before I'm prepared for the gun to go off. I'm trying to say that I feel there are reasons for a heavier trigger even though they don't prevent ADs.
  21. But you may not want to fire the instant you have your finger on the trigger. If you plan to take up the pre travel first, under stress you may blow right on past it and fire the shot before you intended. You may be moving or fighting as you shoot and a heavier but clean breaking trigger provides a small but real safety margin so that you won't fire before you plan to. That is why I prefer a heavier trigger on a carry gun, not as a way to prevent an AD if I have my finger on the trigger when I shouldn't.
  22. The absolute best way to mark brass is to have someone else do it. I use our receptionist at work. No, it isn't cruel! She likes to have something to do between calls when she is caught up on all her actual work duties.
  23. I bought one a few years back during "S&W Days" at a local store where they had a S&W guy on site to do trigger jobs. He worked over mine in about 5 minutes, polishing various small parts. It is still heavy but he made it smooth enough to shoot out to 25 yards or so.
  24. You forgot the three who will post just to say they don't have anything to add to the topic. (Only applies to other forums ) Seriously, one of the nice things here is the lack of self important people-with-no-lives who think their opinion is important even when they don't have one!
  25. Because competition and SHTF guns have different requirements choosing a front sight for both will be a compromise. The Dawson FO recommendations are better for competition but as noted the fiber can break and they aren't night sights. I'd go with tritium front - with a white ring around it if you like a larger, daylight visible dot or without it if you find the big spot distracting in good light. I like a U-notch rear with an outlined tritium dot front. You can drop the dot in the U for quick initial alignment then transition to the top edge for more precise alignment. The real solution is to get additional guns set up for competition and shoot your self defense gun in an occasional match for the practice .
