  1. 125s grouped the same through my Stock III at 1.160" as they did at 1.080", afterward.
  2. I've had to do that even shooting a Tanfo in Production: they lined all of our bays with gravel last year, and it results in a wonderful "moon dust" covering the follower and remaining round or two in an almost empty dropped mag. Gotta roll the rounds in a rag and then wipe a brush through the magazine body to get that grit out of it, or eventually the follower gets crunchy sounding and begins to stick. Even in Glock perfection, if you neglect it long enough.
  3. Not the amount of time or practice. The amount of time devoted to GOOD practice. I spent two years burning in bad reload and draw mechanics, and a loose grip, with dryfire. Fixing it was hard.
  4. The Walther Q5 Match meets all of your criteria except for a G26 sized carry gun version. The regular PPQ is barely bigger than a G19 on the hip, though. Picking one up next week for carry. And my Q5 was absolutely good to go out of the box. You can find them online for around $700 I installed a thinner Dawson front sight and grip tape. Change recoil springs if you want. Done. Terrific trigger right out of the box. Mine breaks right at 4 and is crisper than any other plastic gun due to Walthers really creative twist on the way it trips the sear.
  5. @wtturn it isn't boggling that the find excuses not to do it: that's simple laziness. Whats amazing is the number of shooters who object to its effectiveness, as if doubting it's 75% (or more) of the way most GMs got fast. Almost universally, the higher someone is classified, the more dryfiring they have done.
  6. I haven't handled a regular PPQ. I'll own one for carry use in a week or so, though, since they're $100 off via mail in rebate before September 15th. As a righty I'd still love the gun for its feel, and being the most "do not shift grip to reload" gun on earth... but others do it for a righty as well. It's really rare for lefties. My hands mainly just feel like the PPQ was built to fit them. Only the Tanfoglio grip has felt this comfortable, and well... I sold that gun yesterday. Seems I really do like the Q5.
  7. Personally... I'm a big fan of .090" width front sights. Conceals less of the target at 25+ yd. True, if you're running a .150" rear notch meant for a .125" front on a Glock, the sight picture gets pretty sloppy. But coupled with a rear notch that's a pinch narrower, they're a great setup. I'm fond of the front post being half the (visual) width of the rear notch.
  8. For myself: (9mm on 650) Lee U-die Dillon flare/powder die Powder check Redding micrometer seating die Lee FCD
  9. M&Ps have short chambers. This one was only .005-.010" longer than a Tanfoglio/CZ which has the shortest barrel out there. Black Bullets International's 125 TC will plunk and spin in it at 1.150" I had to load Acme 124 RNs at 1.100" to pass plunk in the same barrel. I highly recommend the BBI 125 for guys with short chambers who like long OALs. You should be able to hit at least 1.125-1.135" in absolutely everything.
  10. Bevin Grams can still do it in under a week and isn't in Texas, is he? He did mine. Had the barrel back Friday. Priority Mailed it to Grams Engineering that Monday.
  11. You don't. You can't. If fitting is needed, it'll take place at the firing pin block. It'll be obvious if you show us the places where the block and the firing pin make contact, as johnbu and socal said.
  12. The gun recoils like a 26oz plastic gun: much snappier than a 40+ oz Stock II or Stock III... but it does shoot flat with a 13lb spring. Just like a Glock. Or an M&P. Or a P320. I really like the way it handles, the ergonomics are unbeatable for a lefty, and it shoots as well as a 34 or the like, and at least for me is noticeably more accurate. Maybe as accurate at the Tanfo... but I only shot one group through it and it was only 15-20yd. Metal guns are more stable, lighter guns are faster across an array that requires wide aggressive transitions. It all evens out, and we get it in our heads that this isn't true because: 1. Guys like to tinker with machines. 2. Grass is always greener. 3. Because marketing. Pick your gun and shoot it. If you don't want to tinker, the Q5 is your gun. Recoil spring. Front sight. Polish. Grip tape. Add fifteen thousand rounds in hard practice. Dryfire like mad. Make GM.
  13. I see no easily removable hammer pin. I think I see where this is going... How much extra work is involved in each teardown, @SoCalShooter69?
  14. Your idea of 'not naming' things is odd.
  15. Thanks! I'll be following in your footsteps. How hard is it to swap the TTIs on and off? There are times I might shoot PROD and COin one weekend
  16. Oh and I shot it with and without the 13lb recoil spring. Definitely going to run the 13lb spring - I like the way the sights track a lot more than the heavier factory spring, and the one jam I had wasn't the fault of the lighter spring. The gun was fully in battery when I had a failure to extract.
  17. I had one failure to extract, which I am not worried about yet: the gun isn't broken in and I fed it a hodgepodge of leftover ammo. I had three reshoots that burned 20-30 rounds a piece due range equipment malfunctions, and ran out of the good stuff. This video is chock full of mental mistakes: pressed for time, I showed up late and shot straight through. I shot everything except stage 1 & 2 as the very first shooter, and after only a short glance at the stage. I forgot a target. I went to slide-lock once or twice... basically, I had fun and just wanted to run the new gun. I like it. A lot. It shoots a lot like a G34 but I suspect it's a pinch snappier. Love the trigger to death: I'm leaving the factory springs and such alone. Ergonomics are astonishingly perfect for my hands, as a lefty. I'm selling a decked out Tanfoglio Stock 3, M&P 9L, and Glock 34 this week... and picking up a 4" PPQ as a carry gun and backup to the Q5. Also, look for me in Carry Optics soon. Match video from a Production A class stumbling blindly into each stage:
  18. It may not be pretty, but at least it's ugly.
  19. Thanks! That makes sense. I assume trimming the follower means the slide doesn't lock back anymore?
  20. Good to know - the website lists the TTI basepads at +5 which means I was expecting to only get to load 20. That would be a big capacity disadvantage for the Walther versus other platforms. But you're actually getting +7 or +8... Great! Factory follower and mag spring?
  21. I, too, learned this lesson. I currently load every bullet with a Dillon seating die using the round nose side of the stem. Especially my flat-pointed projectiles.
  22. Grab a ProChrono Digital: the Camry of the chrono world, its not too spendy and it always reads accurately. This was my third chronograph and probably all I'll ever own. If you load, you need access to a chrono frequently. Period.
  23. PPQ and the Q5 are the exact same frame - like a G17 and G34. Same mags. The grip is a pinch shorter than most guns and thus the mags are only 15rds. I actually really like this because the outward flare on the front of the grip acts like a Limited gun with a magwell - it forces your hand up high against the trigger guard into an extremely high grip. I did some massaging of the magwell with a dremel and it loads as fast as my M&P - my Tanfo got similar treatment, but I was never as fast loading it as I am with polymer. The first dryfire session with the Q5 caused me to pick up some speed. Grip got some Talon grip tape before I ever shot it. I don't think any gun comes with enough traction and all of mine get stippling or skate tape. I'm buying a Deltapoint and two 140mm extensions as soon as I get paid for the Tanfo - I'll let you know how the capacity works out.
