  1. Thanks for the offer Craig. Unfortunately, I never could get a feel for the SL loader. Moonclips is a neat idea though. I did that to my 25LC mountain gun to shoot 45acp and it works well. Still, a 7 shot L frame comp 3 would be nice. Gary
  2. Ahhh... If the 8 shot cylinders chambers won't line up with the 28's bore, I can see that will not be a cost effective conversion. Thanks guys. edited to add: Thanks for the invite, Bubber. I may take you up on that some time. Gary
  3. Craig, I looked at the ICORE site, they don't seem to have much of a presense in North TX. Still, the membership is reasonable and it sure would be nice to win that blaster. I've looked around and made some phone calls today and haven't found one single used 627PC for sale in my area. When you say that the conversion would cost close to what a used 627pc costs, how much are we talking about? Thanks, Gary
  4. I've got the hots for a 627PC, unfortunately my budget is not as hot for it as I am. It dawned on me that I have a 6" 28-2 languishing away in the safe. Isn't a 627 an N frame? Could I get an 8 shot cylinder and other related parts and convert my 28? It's a really accurate gun but it'd see a whole lot more range time if this is doable. Thanks, Gary
  5. David, The SDM sight actually IS a hair longer than the flat surface on the end of the barrel rib of a 686. I cropped this from an old pic of my gun but you can see that the sight blade hangs over the leading edge of the ribs ramp just a few thousandths hen it's flush on the muzzle end. It bothered me at first but I quickly forgot all about it and hadn't thought about it at all until seeing your post. I really like the RED fiber in the SDM sight. It stands out like a neon sign. Gary
  6. Last year, I tested 23. Last week, I tested 27. I shoot a lot of indoor matches but that's going to stop right now. I've decided to cut it back from 4 to 2 a month and see what happens. I am seriously showing #3 from the list above. Gary
  7. Thanks for the tips guys. The barrel is a 4" (max idpa for revo). It's pretty rare that I see shots past 20 yards around here but I do practice on the 25 yard plate rack at Haltom City Rifle and Pistol club with it and POI with the 10yard zero hasn't been an issue. I especially like the idea of drilling the sight all the way through. That sounds like the best solution all the way around. THanks, Gary
  8. Not sure how I broke it. I must have hit it on a barricade last weekend. The SDM fiber optic rod is staked in. It's not a pull through and melt deal like most fiber optic sights.
  9. I recently replaced the rear sight on my 686 with the LPA replacement sight. I really like the wide black target blade. On the front, I have a red SDM FO that's .250" high. With a 10 yard zero using 158gr bullet, I have the rear sight almost bottomed out. There may be 2-3 clicks left. If I replace the .250" front with a .300" front, Am I going to have to jack up the rear like a 72 El Camino with air shocks? How dramatic will the adjustment have to be? The reason I ask is that I broke the FO on my .250 and already have a spare .300 in the toolbox but it's not drilled yet. I'll just order another .250 if changing the height will create adjustment problems. Thanks, Gary
  10. I'm running a 158gr fmj @ 127pf. In my 4" 686 (heavy), it's like a 22lr.
  11. Use a cylinder for a 325PD. That's what I plan to do eventually. Gary J.
  12. S&W 4" 686 (worked over by me), Comp-tac locking paddle holster, kydex speedloader holders that I made myself, Bubberized Safariland comp III loaders.
  13. This weekend, the family and I made the trip to Princeton for the Louisiana State IDPA Championship. The weather was fantastic. This was my third sanctioned match with a revolver but my first out of state match. The folks at Miculek IDPA really know how to challenge a wheel gunner. A couple of the stages were the toughest I've ever encountered for a 6 shooter. Extra reloads, reloading the gun with ONLY 3 rounds on the clock, TWICE, 1 shot per target with 15 targets, etc. I made mistakes that I didn't know were possible. It was a great learning experience for me. My club, Cross Timbers IDPA, put on a good show and took home a big chunk of the woodpile. I also achieved a personal goal, which was taking an SSR division championship trophy home and getting it at Jerry's made it just that much better. Watching JM work his magic was awe inspiring, even though I've seen him shoot a few times before. It never gets old. Anyway, it was a great match and I hope I can make it back next year. Gary J.
  14. I use both hands to get the gun and grab the speedloader with my right hand after the latch has been hit. This way, the guns orientation is not different than during my normal reload and muscle memory takes over. I have tried several ways in practice and it doesn't make any difference in my time vs grabbing the gun left handed. Gary J.
  15. I comfortably load 300rds per hour on my Square Deal B. I am very satisfied with that. Gary J.
  16. I never RO my wife and I certainly don't want her scoring me. I'm glad your wife wasn't more seriously hurt, Gregg. Gary J.
  17. After a few matches and a small bottle of Alieve, you'll be fine. Gary J.
  18. That's very weird. Does it matter if you tilt the gun one way or another? Gary J.
  19. Well, I couldn't wait so I started closely inspecting sight bases and sure enough... I was able to see the pin on my 19-3. After thinking about it for a few seconds, I decided that the ol 19 would be a lot more fun if I could see the sights so I held my breathe and swung the hammer. 30 minutes later, baby has a new SDM fiber optic front sight and she looks soooooo happy. Thanks Dave and Carmoney for showing me the light on the hidden pin. Now, off to Brownells.com! Gary J.
  20. Dave is right. They're pinned in place before the gun is polished and finished at the factory, so the pin becomes nearly invisible. But there should be a pin holding the sight in, and it should be no big deal to install a new F/O sight. I've done it on several old N-frames. They did a heck of a job on mine because I have looked at it under a big magnifier with lots of light and cannot see any sign of a pin anywhere. I've got an SDM FO FS that would be awesome on my 28 too. I am going to try some lumin dye or something... I really want to see that pin and knock it out! How about my no dash 686, is there a hidden front sight pin there too? If there is, I'll be callin' Brownells first thing tomorrow. Gary J.
  21. The old 28 is a great gun. Unfortunately, changing the front sight isn't going to be easy. Mine is part of the barrel as far as I can tell and it looks to me that it would have to be milled for a replacement front sight. Gary J.
