  1. If you've seen the Rugged Gear range cart advertised in Front Sight, you can get a close substitute for WAY less money. The Rugged Gear cart is based on one of those three wheeled, pnuematic tire jogging strollers. I became aware of the Rugged Gear cart (http://www.ruggedgear.com/shooting_cart.php) about a year ago but thought the price of $260 was a bit steep and I started looking at alternatives from wagons to hand trucks with pnuematic tires ($40 and up). A few weeks ago I saw the jogging stroller in Target and on close examination, I realised the Rugged Gear cart is the same exact stroller but with different fabric and a couple long gun mounts. Target sells a jogging stroller that appears to be exactly the same thing: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=b...asin=B000067EFO. I got one on sale for $75 and bought a pair of Rugged Gear ATV mounts http://www.ruggedgear.com/atv.php for $30. If Rugged Gear asks you what you want them for, they'll try to sell you some more expensive ones for about $50 but the $30 ones work fine. You'll need to rig up something for the gun muzzle but that's easy enough to do with a variety of things available at your hardware store. By folding down the seat, there's plenty of room to accomodate a fairly large range bag and there are a couple of pouches under the seat for more storage. The cart moves easily over rough terrain because of the large diameter wheels. The cart folds up and the wheels are quickly removable which makes it easy to transport.
  2. Doesn't the Square Deal use proprietary dies? If so, the Lee FCD won't fit. The Dillon crimp die makes a nicer crimp anyway, IMO. The Lee FCD is useful for high pressure cases like .40 S&W and .38 Super where you want the extra sizing ring at the bottom of the Lee FCD to take out feed ramp bulge that may be lower than the Dillon sizing die can get to.
  3. Not if you say it with a question mark at the end. Duh...
  4. I was sorting though some used brass yesterday and came across some cases headstamped Lapua 38 Super. It is NOT .38 Super. The brass is rimless and similar to Starline Super Comp. I cannot believe Lapua would do something as idiotic as stamping a case as a caliber that it is not.
  5. Zeros work great for me. I've been using them for several years in Super, .40, and .45 and you can't go wrong dealing with Chuck at Shooters Connection. He's a good guy and shoots the stuff he sells.
  6. There are precious few IPSC shooters who would not earn a 10.4.1 for that...
  7. I pretty much second what Erik Warren said. Start with 125s. 115s are a little fussier about what powders can make major and keep the pressures reasonable. I'd add IMR 4756 as an alternate to VV N350 in case you live someplace where VV powders are scarce (and don't want to pay obscene shipping fees). I have used IMR 7625 and it's soft shooting and clean but a little lacking in gas to make the comp work well - the recoil feels soft but the gun flips a bit more. If you're new to open though, you probably won't notice it.
  8. Let's be blunt about it. Some of those writers have a direct financial interest in pulling shooters from IPSC. If they want to do that, fine. That's what enterprise is all about. If they are doing it while in the role of a supposedly unbiased writer for the magazine, then the magazine is at fault and deserves to be slammed. I personally am fed up with the 'shooting IPSC will get you killed' crap. It is absolutely the same bull$$$$ we get from Sarah Brady. Please Mr. Hackathorn, show us the morgues full of IPSC shooters killed in gunfights. <where's the barf icon when you need it>
  9. Better yet, whenever you're in a motel take the freebies they have in the rooms. If you want a bunch, just go to the desk and ask for a couple to take home for your 'little girls'!
  10. Just a note to anybody who's planning to try a +2 pad on 170mm tubes, I don't know of any +2 pad that attached to a 170mm magazine tube that will not cause the magazine to exceed the maximum overall length allowed in IPSC/USPSA. If your mag is measured at the match and doesn't fit in the 170mm gauge, it's a match DQ.
  11. Question is, will STI and SVI start making clear grips to go with them???
  12. Mine's had one for about three years. Zero hasn't moved and it's even been off the gun a few times. Don't worry about it.
  13. Chriss, were you at the York IWLA pistol/rifle match last fall? We had a guy on our squad who shot a Garand. On the one stage in the back pist with 3 close IPSC targets through the low port, he fast doubled tapped all three targets from the hip. I think he had 2 C's and 4 A's too. He got a squad cheer for his effort.
  14. Is a 'tactical vest' a fashion faux pas? Not if you don't mind being called Rambo for the rest of your life!
  15. Contact George Smith at EGW.
  16. Take a class from Jarrett. You'll learn to respond to "Stoke 'em up cowboy."
  17. Hopefully all the AW ban laws go away in Sept 2004 Apparently Bush already said that he would sign a bill to make it permanent. Sen. Sweinstein say's she's preparing a bill to do that and toughen it and also to move 50 BMG to Class III.
  18. I have a TacStar which gets 9+1 on my 1100 with Fed Walmart packs and Rem High vel. I called Choate and asked about their tube and they said it's only 9+1. Briley is selling a true 10+1 tube. And I have a friend who's a very skilled machinist who made me a beautiful 10+1 tube using my original Rem mag cap for a case of beer. How cool is that?
  19. Can it? Yes. Should it? No.
  20. Chuck Bradley at Shooters Connection has the old style STI followers for sale.
  21. Shooters Connection carries it. You may or may not be able to get ahold of Chuck right now though. His area had widespread power line damage from last weekend's storm and he's without power at the moment (2/19). Apparently they were told it might be up to two weeks until power is restored.
  22. Remington just came out with a new recoil bad which is used on their new 3 Gun shotgun. I understand it works very well. You might want to call Rem up and find out the details.
  23. Of course they had their reserve deputy wanna be badge hanging in front of the holster too. I think those are CCW Holder badges you can order from Shotgun News. If you don't like having your shotgun barrel branded into your hand during reloads, get a golf or batting glove. It's sufficient for the task and they only cost $5-10.
  24. You definitely don't want to use IMR 4756 in a .40 - at least for USPSA Major PF velocities. I briefly tried it with 200 gr. bullets at the old 175 PF - stuff hits back pretty hard. IMR 7625 with 180s works good though I don't have my load data handy.
