  1. Quote: from Shooter Grrl on 7:27 pm on Mar. 7, 2002 Yup - I get a 2x3 shooting area inside the box. Okay... but I've never been at a match or tourney where touching the box counted as a foot fault and starting with feet on or touching the box is a common practice. If the inside dimension of the box is the actual shooting zone, then the box itself exists outside the zone. Any time a shooter touches the box, they would fault and should incur the appropriate penalty. And shooter should never, ever be started in a condition that doesn't meet the start requirements yet shooters are routinely started with their feet either on or touching the box and some classifiers even require it I think (El Prez?). I very quickly skimmed the rule book and did a search on box and as near as I can figure, there's no definitive spec for boxes. Did I overlook it? I don't know the correct answer. I'm just trying to understand your reasoning as compared to what I see in practice. I'm email some others for info right now.
  2. Chriss, It was just a joking ... But I'm still confused The message as written implied otherwise. After being on the IPSC List for 6 or 7 years, I don't assume anything anymore. Some of those people actually try to suggest that ADs should be a DQ. Det cord sound like fun. Wanna do a stage at the Mid-Atlantic section match or the A8? Probably suck to RO though.
  3. Second, the measurement is the inside! You sure? If that's the case then a foot fault occurs when the shooter touches the box, not outside the box.
  4. 3x2 would be the outside dimension. Use 1" thick. Rember, you have to lug them around during set up and tear down. Also, gussets in the corners if you can. Drill a few holes for spikes.
  5. But I'm still confused, if the philosophy of the sport is "Shoot 'em as you see 'em," why can't I knock down stage props to help me see and shoot the targets a little faster? You want to destroy the stage props and you actually want to know why it isn't allowed? (Edited by kbear38S at 12:13 pm on Mar. 7, 2002)
  6. I had (still have actually...) a Safariland 011 (older version of the 012). I'm now using a Limcat which is what I recommend to anybody looking for a race holster. I don't think the Limcat's any faster but it's a little easier to adjust and much more secure when not on the COF.
  7. FrontSight. American Handgunner sucks. I'm tired of Hackathorns semi-monthly IPSC will get you killed articles. It's exactly the same bull#### Handgun Control uses - gun in the home is 43 times..... Now, if IPSC will get you killed, bullseye shooters are going to cause the Fall of the Empire. Personally I suspect Hackathorn's IPSC bashing has more to do with promoting his business ventures. I'm just not going to pay AH to allow him to publish it and get paid for doing it. 8. I think it was built by one of those gunsmiths who spends all his time on the web. -dashK
  9. Quote: from warpspeed on 10:52 pm on Feb. 28, 2002 A 165PF loads shoots just as flat as 130. Doesn't it? No. The guns are set up for a certain pressure in the comp. Dropping PF means changing your load if you want your gun to work to its maximum capabilityies. Also, to some extent, flattness and recoil are a trade-off. In my gun the loads that are the softest shooting are not the flattest. To get the gun shooting really flat, it still hits back fairly hard. Now I don't notice when I'm shooting, but most people who have never shot an open gun expect the recoil to be less than it is. To some extent, it's a reflection of the impulse; the light bullets impart a much quicker and sharper hit than the heavier, slower bullets in my limited gun. When I shoot limited which isn't often, I'm always initially surpised at how soft the gun feels. A properly setup steel gun and an IPSC open gun are two very different machines.
  10. There is absolutely nothing in the rules that authorizes the RO to make you reshoot the stage. That said, if the classifier is more than 15% different than your classification %, the result is not used anyway. My opinion though, is you didn't shoot a 76% without the skills to do it. If you shot an A classifier, you deserve it.
