  1. Debbie did a good job in portraying the sport of it, but the other woman who referred to these "cop killer" rifles was expected. I don't think the media will ever give guns a good view.
  2. Roundtrip. Also, do any/many people carpool to matches? What does a match have to have to make it worth the trip if it's out of your typical distance? Number of competitors? Stage design? Round count?
  3. I tried to search and see how far people are willing to go to shoot a match. Not an Area or National match, just your typical local club USPSA/IDPA/Steel Challenge. If if you want to give some reasons why or why not for going to your local shoots also, I am just curious.
  4. Crazy? Maybey a little bit, but it sure beats working or doing other chores. Oregon has many scenic highways and don't worry, there are plenty of rest stops or places to pull over. RePete should know, he stops at all of them.
  5. Don't want to sound like a conspiracist, but something is going on. I started reloading when ammo started to get expensive. I remember buying Fed Gold Medal Match .308 168's for less than $15 a box, $125 for a case. American Eagle (Fed) 9x19 was $5 on sale for a box of 50. Now Federal has fancy packaging, the same ammo is now called 'Fusion' and the same sierra are now touted as 'premium bullets'. I have seen it as much as $38 for a box of 20. $2.49 surplus M193 55gr FMJ is now $10 a box! This has just started a frenzy and everyone is stockpiling primers, bullets, brass and powder. Maybey this is exactly what the ammo manufacturers want. I wonder what's next? "Hey man, you know where I can score some good 125 JHPs? I'm fiend'in over here and need my fix."
  6. Most of the matches I've shoot, as soon as you hand in your scorecard to the timekeeper and the order is determined for the stage, that's it. After everyone in your squad has shoot, someone will run the score sheets to the stats keeper. If you want to reshoot a classifier, you can usually go the the stats shack and get another score sheet for a couple of bucks and shoot it again. Usually, if someone is trying to 'grandbag' they usually don't do as well on the reshoot. They are trying to hard instead of just shooting to their ability. As far as not turning in your scorecard if you tank a stage, I think you should turn it in if you have it no matter what. Your only hurting yourself if you don't. A GM told me I wouldn't progress if I try to compete with 'other shooters' and try to keep up with their abilities. You need to shoot your own game and practice your own weaknesses. The scorecard will just show your own progress of that weeks practice sessions. Did you improve on what you worked on? Are there other areas that you need to focus on? Yes it is a competitive sport, but the biggest competitor is yourself. FWIW, even though I have been tempted to 'reshoot' a classifier, I haven't and will try not to ever do it. Classifiers are just another stage and if you want to have a certain classification you can practice those skills that usually show up in classifiers (to paraphase SA).
  7. That's the difference between IPSC vs. USPSA rules. USPSA rules I can shoot a Glock G34 in production. It's not legal in IPSC. But at least there isn't a minimum trigger pull, for now. I've also seen shooters with extended base pads in production. That shooter told me it was legal as long as it wasn't weighted like the brass base pads.
  8. Plated is OK is you just want to shoot. Jacketed is going to be more accurate. Zero's are nice (if you can get them). I am shooting Montana Gold right now because they are the only one who seem to have bullets all the time. However, it seems everybody prices have been going up lately.
  9. Doh! Figured it out. (You must have cookies enabled to use this site)
  10. I use WSF for 9x19, 40SW and 45ACP. It's cheaper(I get 8lb for $90), my barrel doesn't get as hot compared to shooting TG or w231, and my gun stays much cleaner. I haven't been able to bring up hodgdon reloading data site in a while (data.hodgdon.com), but found this at archive.org... http://wwpowder.com/data/handgun/40sw.php Archive WW Powder Site
  11. http://www.shootersconnection.com Chuck carries the DMW tubes in various sizes!
  12. OK, I loaded up some 45's and made it out to the range today. Tightloop was right, my 5" didn't make major with 5.0 of W231. It did make major with 5.3 and probably would squeak by with 5.2 gr. of 231 (gonna try that later). Found my old notes and I used to load 5.5 gr., not 5.0 gr. So here are my results... Shooting Chrony Professional ~10' from muzzle... Oregon Trail Lazercast .452 LSWC bullets... W231 5.0 gr. OAL 1.255" Crimp .468 WW Brass FPS 767 817 799 805 819 786 778 AVG. 795 ES 52 SD 19 PF 159 W231 5.3 gr. OAL 1.255" Crimp .468 WW Brass FPS 832 840 851 854 851 852 836 AVG 845 ES 22 SD 8 PF 169 W231 5.7 gr. OAL 1.255" Crimp .468 WW Brass FPS 876 884 841 830 AVG 857 ES 54 SD26 PF 171
  13. Have shot 231 for over 25 yrs...and NEVER saw any 5" gun make major with 5.0 under any 200 SWC....you sure you did not mean 5.6 or 5.7??? Maybey my chronograph is starting to act up? I will try 5.0 and 5.5 with 231 and see what I get.
  14. Thank you all for your input. As soon as there is an RO class in my neck of the woods, I'm there.
  15. No the hit into the hardcover was 1 1/2" below cardboard scoring area, it was totally in the black area.
  16. Shot a Virginia Count stage where some of the targets had black hard cover on lower half of target. I hit the hard cover and made up a shot. I was given an extra shot and extra hit penalty. Didn't have rule book so, I tried to argue that the shot into hard cover would be considered a miss, so why is it an extra hit. I should have only been given an extra shot penalty according to this rule correct? 9.4.5.2 Extra hits (i.e. hits on the scoring area of scoring paper targets in excess of the total number specified in the stage), will each incur one procedural penalty. Note that hits on hard cover and/or penalty targets are not treated as Extra Hits.
  17. Leave the scoring the way it is. My vote would to just make the upper A zone a little bit bigger. The upper A needs to be just a little bit taller.
  18. Blade-Tech DOH- Use either the CZ-75 or EAA Witness Elite Match holster weapon code depending on what type of slide/frame you have.
  19. Another manufacturer of springs. I think CMC and Wilson use Wolff springs (http://www.gunsprings.com). ISMI - http://www.ismi-gunsprings.com/ Tripp research - http://www.trippresearch.com/
  20. or you can print this one...http://www.glockfaq.com/targets/competition/ipsc.pdf
  21. The quality did hurt for a while. The story I got was the original owners sold the company, the quality kind of went south and then the orignal owners bought it back. There not the most accurate bullet but I used to buy them for practice ammo. Now that the prices have gone up, for almost the same price I shoot MG 124 JHPs.
  22. I will be at the SS and Glock matches. I wish we could get more shooters out to COSSA as they are in the CCS. This months IPSC match however is the same day as CCS. Shot at Medford today, looks like they are going to be shooting 3rd Sundays again. Same day as Tri-county. If it's not one thing it's another.
  23. Triggerkit with 4lb. wolf firing pin spring. Just over 3#s out of my G34. The firing pin spring that comes with the kit gets you down to 2-2.5#s. I don't really care about the weight so much as the travel and reset to the trigger. Oops, forgot the add I run the stock 3.5# connector.
  24. Was planning on heading to Medford tomorrow for a match. Anybody know what's going on with Eugene and Medford clubs? Went to go to http://www.oregonipsc.com and there is a notice that the site is shut down? How do you expect to get people shooting when you have no information on matches and locations?
  25. Say you have an 1 1/2" belt, does the front strap have to be above the top part of the belt or bottom? At or above belt implies to me I can lower it a bit as long as the front strap doesn't hang below bottom edge of belt.
