  1. I wouldn't do this in a big match, it would just be for fun at one of our local fun shoots that is about bragging rights with friends.
  2. LOL! Know worries there, not with a 6 shot k frame and speedloaders. I was just going to do it for fun at one of our weekly fun shoots. I really just wanted to beat ima45dv8 with it and him with his bottom feeder. Put yer fancy schmancy grips on and bring it!

  4. Well the responce from John Amidon was no help really, just the new rules. I reckon it would be left up to the MD or RO or someones judgement. Reckon I won't mess with it.
  5. I was up in Oregon shooting picket pins a few years back with a guy using a 8 3/8 Smith 14 or 15, it was pure hell on thos elittle things.
  6. Hunting. I have never shot IMHSA or NRA hunter silhouette but it would work well for either. OR you could have the barrel replaced to whatever you like.
  7. Are there anymore slots? I am trying to figure out how I can make it.
  8. There rules says nothing about being a factory option, just be of the same profile. The Hogue rubber grips are available from the factory for every "REVOLVER" Smith makes J,K,L,N,and X. They are all shaped the same. The wood grips are all shaped the same. Does Glock make grip tape as a factory option? I don't see that there is any difference, the profile is the same just a different surface. I am only planning on shooting my K frame in production, I shoot my N frame in revolver already.
  9. Photos The one on the left is the one in question. The one on the right is a factory grip The grip on the left is for a k frame sqaure the grip on the right is for a n frame round butt
  10. Yeah I kinda get that. I personally don't see any reason why they would not be legal but I know in production a lot of nits get picked. Do you see a reason why they would not be legal? The profile is exactly the same as a factory grip.
  11. The wood grips are shaped the same as the rubber grips Smith puts on from the factory.
  12. but I could be wrong. Anway, if just for fun I wanted to shoot production with a revolver could I use my wood Hogue grips? No they are not factory but they do match the same profile.
  13. 10 grains sounds kinda stout for a 44 spl with 240swc? 10 grains of Unique in my 44 MAG w/240swc gives me 1000 fps out of a six in tubed 629. Okay, it is a little stout for a .44 special, and pretty wimpy for a .44 magnum. But a pleasant shooting round from my 6" 629 as well with a 245 grain Keith. It would make a plinking round for Zookeeper. Depends on what he is shooting it out of. Out of a Colt, and OLD Smith or a Charter Arms it could be a bomb. Or if not blow the thing up wear it out really fast.
  14. Boy am I glad you said "almost". I picked up and brand new unfired in the box with papers and tools 4" 19-5 last week. Made in 83. It has been dirtied already. Zeroed with my favorite carry load and was carried tonight when my family and I went to dinner.
  15. In the August/September 05 issue of Handloader Brian Pearce had a great article on 44 special loads. This comes from his charts. 5.5 to 6 grs of 231 for 240 to 250gr cast SWC's These loads are supposed to be 15,500 psi or less. If you are not dead set on 231 another wonderful and classic option is 6 to 7gr of Unique.
  16. Well with just a few practice loads with dummy rounds, I will be doing the rest of mine.
  17. vrmn1, The main reason to cut them down was to eliminate the speedloader from pulling out a round when loading. The walls will drag the round out when it pops off or is pulled off. Also the hole in the trigger mechanism will hang up on the rear of the pin thus filling the hole in the mechanism eliminates that and also makes them initiate sooner. This will also allow the speedloader to work faster. It allows the loader to work when everthing is not so perfectly aligned as in match sitiations. And beside that it looks coooool. But you still need to practice reloads to get smoooooth. Thank you sir!!!!! I just cut one down this morning to try. I still have to fill the hole. I cut this one down on a lathe, that worked out pretty well with out take it apart. I snipped the housing off and chucked it up. I didn't cut off as much as you do, I can always go back and cut more. I cut it off even with the piece in the middle that hold the cases in.
  18. What is the purpose? How do they work differently? Getting ready to cut on some but not sure why.
