  1. Happy Birthday OObullit!
  2. I think Bill has one of the PC 686 38 supers. They made a limited run a few years ago. I have seen a couple of them show up for sale over the years but they ain't cheap and I am never flush enough to grab one when I see them. A couple of folks do convert 686's though. Look at TK customs web site for a list.
  3. New 38 super brass is cheaper than new 45 acp brass. Again since with a revo you get to keep your brass that take the cost of brass out of the question.
  4. Well the recoil will be different for sure. Probably more snappy with the 38 super than the 45 acp. It can't hurt to practice and see what you like. Do the same drills with either gun and see which is faster for you.
  5. Thats one thing about shooting revo, you get to keep your brass. At least in USPSA, I don't know if IDPA has some goofy rule about that as I have never shot IDPA.
  6. I can't make it this month but it is on the schedule for next month.
  7. I am a machinist and did/do the work myself.
  8. .013 sounds like a lot more. DUH!!!!!!! I'm a dumbass. Thanks.
  9. Are moonclips for 38 Super thicker? Just curious if I were to do a similar conversion on L frame , would it be better to do 38 Super vs 38 special. Yep the 38 super clips are .035 thick. The 38 Special clips are only .022. .007 don't sound like much and its not really but any more helps. And along with that they have a little more meat between the rounds. I have some extra k frame cylinders and I am going to rechamber one to 38 super as soon as I order the reamer.
  10. You're a trend setter Mike! OK, full disclosure: "Carmonizing" a revolver hammer is not exactly a new concept. Check out the photo below from the 3rd Edition Law Enforcement Handgun Digest. This picture was taken about 30 years ago! (The work shown was done by retired USAF gunsmith Bob Day, who operated his shop in San Antonio back in the day.) Wow that is interesting. I knew it had been around for a while but I didn't know it had been that long.
  11. Dang, I should have shot this match, I would have won revolver. Come on there has to be someone in AL that shoots revo.
  12. I cut a couple of K frame cylinders for moon clips this week. They both turned out real well. Let me just tell you though, those little moon clips are tender. They have to be and I knew that going in but it was still suprising once I got them in my hand to see just how thin they were and how fragile they will be. I know this when I use them in a match I will be asking the RO and scorer to watch their step.
  13. Has anyone tried the North Mountian with K frame moon clips? Or what is the diameter of the post?
  14. I can do it either way, I am just wondering how others do it. I am a machinist and I have cut unrecessed cylinders but I have never seen a recessed cylinder that has been moon clipped so I don't know how they are done.
  15. Has anyone had a recessed cylinder moon clipped? Did they just machine away the recessed part or did they recess the recess?
  16. http://simplyrugged.com/ Check this guy out. He is a friend of mine and I love his stuff. It is what his name says simple and rugged. I have been using one of his pancake holsters for about 5 years now for a 4" n frame. Under a t shirt it goes away. I was in a store a few months back and 3 cops were in there and none of them knew I was carrying until I lifted my shirt. And the gun stays in place, I forgot about it one day shopping with the wife and got to playing on a inversion machine. As I rotated over I felt my gun move but the holster moved with it but the gun stayed in place. I also had to draw my gun one night when a pit bull came out of the dark bushes, thankfully the owner was able to call him off before I had to shoot him but the gun was out and on the dog without a thought.
  17. Take the cylinder out and send it to me so I can ream it to the correct spec for you. The 625-2s (Model of 1988s) all have tight chambers. You can leave the extractor assembly in place. I'm not worried. Mike has a nice tool and is well know for his ability to loosen up tight chambers. TMI!!!
  18. I shoot almost nothing but lead. Most of which I cast myself. With a good lube, and bullets sized properly to fit your gun leading should be very minimal if at all.
  19. Very nice! I love sight tracker.
  20. Oddball to you but they are both intensly popular in other circles. I have friends that think I am some sort of a deviant for putting f/o front blades on my guns, cut half the hammer away and shoot IPSC. I don't like that Smith is doing away with the 625 or making it a PC gun either but I would hate to see these other calibers going away. The 41 may be the best handgun deer round available. And the 32 magnum is hard on small game. I really find it strange as much as Smith backs competitive shooting they are doing away with "THE" IPSC revovler but I am sure it will be back soon. Just like the 610. I bet the 610 don't last long this time either.

    Shooting lead

I just finished casting 250 or so cast bullets. They're a few thing you have to remember. WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not put your hands in you mouth. Ventilation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Primers are just about as bad a cast bullets. Handling fired brass is just about as bad as cast bullets. When I dump my tumbler I do it outside. When I cast bullets I am set up in front of double doors. The first thing I do when I shoot, load, anything is wash my hands. I have had my level checked, it is at the high side of normal but I figure as much as I shoot, load, cast, ect....... I am going to be on the high side of normal.
  22. He and I spoke about this conversion last week. We talked about a couple of things right now I think I am going to stay with the standard chamber right just moon clip the gun which I will do myself. If I am not satisfied with that I will have it cut the chambers with only a 38 super reamer. After shooting my 19 ina match theother night with 38 specials and speed loaders, I had a great time with it and didn't find loading or unloading 38's to be much of a problem.
  23. I have my 4" and 5" and a line on another 5" so I should be ok.
