  1. Usually after I try to get the 7th or 8th shot off. :-) It appears that I am going full circle. I started out do a strong hand reload. I tried doing weak hand but the timer says I am faster strong hand so I am going back to that. After I fire my last shot. I hit the ejector with my right thumb as I rotate my left hand around and with the middle and ring finger on my left hand push them through the cylinder window opening the cylinder. Then with my left thumb hit the ejector rod. With my right hand I reach for a fresh moon clip. After I eject the spent moon I rotate the gun back down to my belt throw in the fresh moon clip close it with my left thumb while I reaquire my grip with my right hand and go back to shooting/
  2. Enjoyed the Griffin Steel Match this weekend , how did your new 8 shooter workout? All I have to say is watch out at ICORE.
  3. On any given weekend there is at least one match to shoot within a couple hours drive of me. Most weekends 2 or 3 matches to shoot. It kinda sucks at the same time because I want to shoot them all but can't.
  4. Wonderful! I will be there, I look forward to seeing you guys.
  5. Yes Mike I did. Just yesterday. I will have it a steel in a couple of weeks. And plan on using it for ICORE.
  6. I was told once that it was the same as a millet front rifle sight. Don't take that to the bank though. That's was I was told, in fact I bought one that fit the dovetail but the blade was too narrow. Pinnacle Custom modified the stock one for me making it FO. It was inexpensive and quick. Best option IMO Could you post a picture or send it to me of your front sight. I thought about doing the same thing myself.
  7. Does anyone know off the top of their head what the dove tail is on the front sight of the v-comp guns?
  8. I sure had a good time shooting this match. Thanks to everyone that was so nice about letting me shoot through. I hated to do it but it was the only way I could shoot the match. I really had a great time though. I enjoyed meeting a few folks and the match was a blast. Wish I could have shot it like the rest of you and been there for the whole thing.
  9. I have heard this same sales pitch from the S&W reps. I just can not understand why anyone would buy and CARRY a gun that is meant to be shot very little. Anyone that does not practice with the gun the carry is asking for trouble. They can keep them. I think you are missing the point but it is not worth talking about.
  10. These guns are made to be carried a lot and shot a little. I have shot 329's and 360's. For their prupose I have no problem with them. I am not going to shoot them a lot. The scandium guns were not designed to be shot a lot.
  11. Dang if Mike didn't kick our butts. Accuracy is king in this game isn't it. I had a great time. It was good to see you guys
  12. Not sure where Paul will take ya'll to eat, but I have two field courses and two classifiers setup with plans for another field course and classifier pending on crowd and timing. Mark 2 classifiers good maybe they will go in after my application
  13. I finally got around to sending it my app. for ICORE yesterday. I have been planning to do it for months. I hope I can get in time to win the 627. I need that gun.
  14. Thats the expanded version of the story Jim told me over Friday night chilli at CSA a couple years back. They were just trying to save some barrels that were about shot out and Taylor throating came out it.
  15. I am going to use this in ICORE. Yes the power factor is 120.
  16. This is not what I know of as Taylor throating either. This was copied from Jim Strohs website. It is also how Taylor throating was discribed to me by Mr. Taylors son. copied from Jim Stroh of Alpha Precision Taylor Throating is offered in .22, .32, .357/.38, .40, .41, .44, .45, and .475 calibers. Essentially, the barrel throat is lengthened one and one half to two calibers, and enlarged to slightly over groove diameter. The throat serves as the throat in a rifle barrel, enabling the bullet to become perfectly aligned with the bore before engaging the rifling. The "choking" effect present from tightening the barrel into the frame is removed as well. The rifling leade is a very gentle 1 ½ degrees. On average, when tested before and after using a Ransom Rest, 50 yard groups have been reduced 40 to 50%. The improvement is there using both cast and jacket bullets. I have not detected a change in velocity using cast bullets. Before and after chronographing is within standard deviation of each test. Using jacket bullets, there is a slight loss, less than 50 fps in all the tests I’ve conducted. If the barrel cylinder gap is adjusted to minimum at the same time the Taylor Throating is done, there will not be a velocity loss with jacket bullets, usually a gain of 25 to 50 fps.
  17. I am not seating these bullets really very long really. I am not really sure how much longer the long colt case are right off the top of my head. I use this same bullet seated the same way in 38 special cases. My reason for using the short colt cases is with special cases they are so long in moon clips there is just less length hanging out there. Does that make sense?
  18. I don't believe I am familiar with this component...... I have the trigger on this gun about at 6 1/2 #. If I hand seat them they work fine.
  19. Thats the plan. I have 148 short colt cases I hope that will be enough. I didn't want to load up on them and not know how they would work. I can use 38 specials if I need more.
  20. OK so I finally got out to the range to test some loads. Not as many as planned because I forgot them setting on my bench. OH WELL. I did take the ones I thought held the most promise. Long story short, with my 125gr cast round nose bullet. The Lyman 358242 cast from WW with about 2% tin to make them cast better more than anything. Sized .358 using the upper lube groove as a crimp groove. Only lubing the lower groove. 6" Smith 19 cut for moon clips. New Starline 38 short colt brass. Win small pistol primer 1.145 OAL 3.6 gr Tite Group. 126 pf 6 shot 15 yards 1 3/4" group resting my wrist on bags. 4 shots 25 yards 2 1/2" group This gun has about 600 to 800 rounds through it since there has been so much as a patch down the barrel and it dirty but totally lead free. No recoil! The only negative but I am used to this because of the amount of cast bullets I use. SMOKEY!!!!!!!!!
  21. The short bearing surface on this bullet was a worry at first also but has not found to be a problem from 38 special case. I am a bit concerned about it with the Short Colt brass but we will have to see. Thanks
  22. Any idea why? In 38 special brass this bullet has worked great especially out of my 4" 19. I think I can answer this one. It's because the interior diameter of the brass begins to narrow down to the web at the base. Because of the length of the .38 Short Colt brass, the cylindrical interior "barrel" of the brass is much shorter than it is with .38 Spl. brass. Even with .357 cast bullets, I have noticed that if I seat them too deep in the .38 Short Colt brass I start to get bulges that interfere with proper loading of the loaded rounds into the chambers. Thats what I figured. I think these bullets will be ok and the way I seat them I think will help. The mold I use is the 358242 I think is the number. I only lube the lower lube groove and use the upper lube groove as a crimp groove in 38's and they have worked great. Doing them that way in the short colt brass I am not seating them as deep and I hope they will work just as well. There is realy only about .125 of the bullet in the case.
  23. Any idea why? In 38 special brass this bullet has worked great especially out of my 4" 19. When I got the mold I was a bit worried if it would work because I wasn't sure it would clean up all the way around in a .358 sizer but it does. And it shoots great. I have shot my best steel challenge scores with it. I shot my 6" 19 this past weekend and shot my best time ever. But it also prompted me to start working with the short colt brass because with moons in this gun it wasn't as fast to load as I would have hoped. I KNOW I KNOW I should have to load in steel challenge but I did twice to finish the run, I did have to keep either of those time. Dry fire practice with the short cases has prove they load a lot faster.
