  1. sfinney, You are the man! Guys like you create more members for our sport. Thanks. josh
  2. That looks cool, it will be cooler ig the gunsmith takes pictures as each part is fitted. Erik, You shouldn't pound the stage props with your Bomar rear sights. josh
  3. Go to Vv website and checkout their 9x21 major loads. I'm sure you can duplicate the same effect with 9x19, but you will sacrifice seating depth if you match cartridge overall length. josh
  4. Tip of ejector maybe broken, if not check for short strokin' - shok buffs too thick or the load may not be cycling the gun fully, so check for tad heavy recoil spring. What recoil spring weight are you using? See if the slide is sliding smoothly. I've ran into the same problem before and it was my load that for some reason my load was one grain less and short cycling the gun. Also check for kids messing with the adjustments on your reloader's powder measure. josh If all that is mentioned above checks out, then see where the shooter is placing his thumb/s. I know a shooter who complained of similar problems until it all majically disappeared after his gunsmith installed ambi safety with thumbshields. josh
  5. A backward follower, Wow I'll be darn... josh
  6. Wow, is there anyone here sharp enough to name all those guns except for the owner of course? Impossible! josh
  7. If that Phantera hasn't been tinkered with and it actually just shot 1200 rounds then it is just broken in. Some of the features Limcat guns are known for are great trigger jobs. My open guns have Limcat top ends on them and they are accurate and reliable. I watched a famous GM shoot a Limcat gun for accuracy at 25 yards and put 10 rounds into one inch group. The big BUT is, I would have to agree with the idea of not buying a 2K gun without handling/shooting it. All it takes is for some kitchen table GS trying to make the trigger even lighter and ruining the precision grounded, angle, polish of the sear and hooks. josh
  8. Isn't it weird when most of us think of the same gadgets that can help us load faster or have more reliable guns. Some just implement their ideas into fabricating plastic or metal more efficiently than others, some have better designs too because they had the chance to do some benchwork or industrial espionage. Seriously, I thought about loosing the rim on the 38super 3 years before the supercomp came out, I suppose you can say Mat Mclearn beat me to it with his MCM brass. Keep thinking and fabricating, some we will laugh at and some we will buy . josh
  9. WOW! Nicely done and you are so lucky that the fixed sight set-up is dead on. Again, very very nice! josh
  10. That is why we all need to join the fight to reverse and prevent anti gun laws in the USA. josh
  11. I wish I can start loading again. I just don't have time and it's killing my shooting . Oh I forgot, I don't have time to shoot too.
  12. Wow! You should patent it. I'm sure you can get a sturdy plastic one made. You better get on the ball or Arredondo might come up with one
  13. If your Glock is reliable then why don't you just shoot that? josh
  14. Once the lead fouling become so bad that it makes bullets tumble, shouldn't the shooting stop since it might spike up high pressures from 40 S&W, specially when using fast burning powders? I thought leaded barrels were the primary reasons of stock barreled Glocks going KABOOM?!! josh
  15. I use to shoot an open gun with a complete Briley barrel, comp and recoil system. If you have the 3 port semi full profile comp and an unlightened slide you should be good to go with a 10 or 9 lb Wolffe 1911 government model recoil spring. If your slide is lightened then try an 11 or 12 lb. I would put one shok-buff just to guard from battering. Goodluck. josh
  16. Wetwork999, is that your sister in-law with your wife? Is she a shooter also? josh
  17. Nice pair of screws on them grips! Are those allen screws? Are those factory or add ons? Oh yeah, good shooting too. josh
  18. Some bushings are made beefier than others. If you were using an 18 lb recoil spring, how often did you inspect/change it. One design that I've gotten to like when using a bushing barrel is the Briley spherical bushing design that uses a reverse type recoil spring plug. It looks nice and would definitely outlast a conventional type bushing. I used this set-up on a 38 super open gun when PF was 175. I fired close to 40K rounds until I learned the heavy cone lock up barrel was the way to go in reducing recoil. I still have that bushing and it looks like it still has lots of life ahead of it if I decide to install it on another gun. And no I don't work for Briley. josh
  19. Winchester is still selling 540 in Australia?! Are they still selling WAP there too?!! I think the closest IPSC powder for open class 9mm cal is WSF, it's faster burning than WAP and 540. It works but it gets you to high pressure faster than N350. I use it for 38 super, but not 9mm major. josh
  20. Alan, Great work and thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming. josh
  21. Most definitely back to your friend since he has experience with it already, NOT! There should be plenty of talented pistolsmiths to name will be endless. Go with a known professional gunsmith. I work on my triggers, safety, sear and most of the bottom parts fitting. I've had an old Ed Brown ambi safety that's been fitted about 4 times to a new sear then last one was a new frame. I usually have to get the contact point spot weld just for a slight build up of metal then filed down for a correct fit, my uncle is a welder so I get good discounts. Can you send me a picture of your safety (contact point) to see just how it looks like? josh
  22. JesseJ, something is out of spec if your safety will come up when the hammer is down. Inspect the pad on the sear and the contact point of the safety for wear or chip. Who fit the safety? josh
  23. I just put a caliper on some of the 9mm loads I had cycled through the gun. They were 1.165 OAL, 125 gr fmj. I wonder if loading up to 1.2 can have enough case to hold the bullet reliably? I did try cycling some rounds again and I have some of my mags able to be 100% reliable, not many though. I'm gonna take a closer look and see what's the difference between those mags and the once that don't feed 9x19. josh
  24. I know it's not mentioned much here, but Briley has the spherical bushings and you have option on the outside dimension of the bushing for a nice fit, and the titanium nitride coated ring can also be ordered in different sizes. I have fitted several bushings from Wilson that were suppose to be minimum fitting and with the limited machinery I have I got the outside dimension to fit really nice in my STI slide, of course the barrel came with the bushing as a kit. Some kits have specifications on them, but I wouldn't trust them because they could be off sometimes. josh
  25. Alan, My mags are original 1st gen Caspian hi-cap mags except for two 170mm+ Craig mags. I did try feeding by just cycling through 9x19 rounds and I was getting nose dives. Maybe the length on the rounds were too short and may need to seat the bullets to max. Both my open gun feeds 38 supercomp 100% because I tuned the mags, even the Craig mags are 100%. Is there anything I need to do to my Caspian mags to make them work for 9x19? I'm basically looking at a new top end in 9x19, but if it doesn't work I'll go the extra mile in getting a different frame. Thanks for all the inputs guys. Keep 'em coming. josh
