  1. EricW, Red loctite takes a lot of heat to neutralize, wouldn't that make your scope mounting on the permanent side? I've used nailpolish before but that usually can be taken off with a bit of acetone based cleaner. josh
  2. Liota, The PSS that I just sent my money for is in 308. Were your rings lapped when you installed your scope? I shoot a 16" 45-70 in pistol mode it has a Weaver base and currently using the Tasco supplied 30mm rings, with the gooey tape common to Tasco rings and some blue Loctite on all the screws it is holding after about 50 rounds of 405 grain hard cast lead loads that are pushing 1350 fps. Now that's recoil that I usually don't enjoy, makes me think what was running in my head when I bought the darn barrel. I also shoot a 270 in an 8.5 lb total weight of rifle and scope and I haven't had a failure with my Burris rings (lapped and used a drop of nail polish for each rings. If you use the Burris Signature rings they help in holding the scope tight under heavy recoil. josh
  3. I really didn't know where to put this topic, but since most Open class shooters usually have to go hi-cap to be competitive I posted it here. Give me the smack down if I was wrong to post it here . As I understand the laws in California, if the mags were purchased before the ban they are legal and can be used in competition and at the range. My real question is, how would big brother know if they were purchased before the ban? Another question is if I decide to compete in an IPSC match in California, what do I have to do to bring my hi-caps into the state or do I have to purchase 10 round mags so I can legally shoot a match in that state. Any related info would be appreciated. Reason for me asking is for shooters shooting the Infinity Match at Reno that may want to wonder to Kalifornia with their gear, since the border is only a skip away. josh
  4. My personal opinion would be to stick with what your wallet can afford and if you really think the expensive mounts are what is called for just hold on and save the pennies and next month or two you can afford the best. I'm building a manual rifle and it's been taking me forever just to get the rifle, a Rem 700 PSS. I'll stick with Leupold LR one piece base and go with Burris Signature rings. I still can't afford the scope of my practical choice, a Burris Black Diamond 6x24x50 Target side focus or Leupold 4x16x40 LR 30mm tube side focus. I do have a Tasco Euro in 3x12x50 30mm tube in storage that I'll be sporting on top of the PSS. Back to the base subject, if the Leupold one piece base and Burris Signature rings have been holding securely on top of some high recoiling hunting weight rifles, why wouldn't they hold up on a heavy tactical rifle? Just my 2 bits. josh
  5. If the contact point on your ejector is at the highest but still having occasional ejected brass hitting the scope mount I might have the answer for you. The angle of trajectory of the ejected brass is too low and you're getting the occasional brass hitting the slide's ejection port and bouncing off the slide then ricochetting into the mount. Solution would be to lower the contact point of the ejector. I've had this problem before and almost drove me nuts trying to figure out what the heck was going on. I actually ground down an EGW extended ejector to where it wasn't extended anymore. I finally got the angle just right to where the brass clears the ejection port cleanly. Goodluck with your problem. josh
  6. I've seen the Ugly Stocked Winchester 70 in WSM at a Sportsman's Warehouse store in Utah. Winchester have the Shadow model as a regular catalog item. Whoever designed that stock should get paddled with it, I really mean some serious schuwacking!
  7. I just sold a pistol and God help me it was an assault pistol. Now UPS and Fed-Ex gave me grief, it would have cost me approx $53 to ship it with either bonehead parcel service. So, I paid a local FFL $10 and shipped it through USPS and cost me $21 priority, insured and tracking label sticker on it. Saved me a little money and made sure no revenues generated for UPS nor FedX with me mailing firearms from now on. If we boycott those bozos they will feel it in their pockets, where it hurts.
  8. Wouldn't that be unsportsmanlike behavior and grounds for DQ? josh
  9. And I was about to feel sorry for all you non-super 1050 owners. Dillon is super, maybe I should start saving for a 650 with all the bells and whistles. josh
  10. Tokarev, I also bought brass from him, the brass is clean and with the looks of it had mostly the squarish Glock firing pin marks on the spent primers. The brass is not sorted by maker to answer Jim's question. I would definitely say they are once fired factory rounds and haven't had any problems except for the occasional 357Sig brass thrown in. He is also a very nice dude. Once I get a thousand 357Sig brass collected I'll post them for sale. BTW, I shoot at LTD most of the time. josh
  11. BrianH, thanks for the info. You da man! josh
  12. Will an Officer model top end function reliably when assembled with my commander model frame assembly? Yes the slide fits and the safety feature (gun drop safety feature levers activates the firing pin plunger). My biggest worry is the frame and slide rails, is the officer model slide suppose to work with the commander model frame, or is there a special frame and rail specification for the officer model? josh
  13. Yeah, but you short guys have it easy shooting the low ports! Oh and I guess the tall guys have it easy shooting the hight ports? There are disadvantages on both, match directors should take into account how many stage designs favor tall or short guys. Did I just drift away from the subject here?
  14. Wait a minute with that picture. I thought the Phantera had the lighter comp instead of the turbo2 comp? Did the plan for that blaster change a bit while it was being built? Still a great looking racer.
  15. "Reading the Limcat available features, I'll say this: nevermind the front serrations unless you're getting an Optima-type sight; you can't easily rack the slide from the front with a scope mount." Ah yeah... but they look so cool and they lighten the gun a bit. Sometimes mr Lim uses them to hide the comp/slide seam. I've seen one gun he built and I had to ask the owner how the heck did the gunsmith blend that comp to the slide so good I couldn't see the seam. Then he showed me where it was. Nice work! The guy actually let me shoot his gun after the match and the accuracy was so superb that I kept my shots on the A and B zone head shot at 50 yards, no bench support. The trigger job was awesome also! If I were to set up an open gun, I'll go with commander length slide, turbo comp, 2 blowholes with the slide lightened at the rear. Am I nuts? just my .02 josh
  16. chriss G, I try not to run the gun dry but sometimes $#!+ happens. I hate running the gun dry because it usually means slamming the slide on an empty chamber at the last fired round. Yes my slide stop sits there to keep the gun together only, and locks the slide only when I make it. I usually over insert it when shooting at the regular firing range where slide must be locked at "range is safe" calls for target maintenance. So there josh
  17. With the old power factor I will get 4 firings out of my Starline 38 Sup +p and similar results with Winchester 38 Sup +p brass. I usually use the 5th or 6th firing at a loss brass match. I remember a grandmaster shooter who use to shoot regular super brass from starline, but didn't ask how many times he can fire them at the old major pf. With the lower pf I will usually lose brass before getting them to turn guppy shape. My gun will run good with 38 sup+p brass if I don't use my big sticks. When it's time to use the big sticks it's supercomp time. josh
  18. My STI para replacement tube have 3 holes on the sides but the mag catch hole is definitely narrower than my stock Para mags. It's the height of the hole that matters, but I think I will enlarge it because the STI mag will run over the mag catch when I insert it with the slide locked back creating a magazine stuck too far into the gun. The STI mag does feed flawlessly tested with jacketed and lead bullets ranging from 155 to 180 grain loaded long and standard length. It did require a bit of tapping with a rubber mallet due to it sticking in the well. It runs flawless and in great shape and I would like to trade it for a Para tube just to make my mags look all the same. josh
  19. Wow! The plot thickens now. So it's not just one type of powder hopper that is getting plastic and powder chem reaction from TG. I solved my problems by just adding a paper liner to my powder measure that I use for 40 reloads. I extend it all the way to the bottom where it will meets the metal portion, but all I have to do is check the inside for proper level to keep gravity helping out for consistent powder drop-meaning I try to keep the darn thing at least half empty or half full depending on how you look at it. Bad mouthing my equipment doesn't really bug me anymore, I had a friend with a 650 and he was throwing a fit one night because he couldn't continue reloading due to a part that was busted and even if overnight delivery gets there in time it was too late for one club match. Anyway I have 2 RCBS progressive reloaders that cost me maybe 150 dollars more than his 650 set up. If one breaks I have another I can transfer my dies and shellplates to. Not putting down Dillon equipment now, green is just my choice of a path to follow. Thanks for the inputs guys. josh
  20. I have both Para p16 mags and STI tube. The STI tube shot great with a little bit of tuning but didn't tweak the mag catch hole at all. You got tubes for STI gun and not Para. josh
  21. I actually shoot 2 open guns with similar top end of the tigercat, because Limcat built the top ends for me. Shoots soft and flat that I don't even have blow holes on my slide. Have you tried a Limcat yet? The trigger job and accuracy is amazing. josh
  22. I think I'll stick with tite group for limited. Maybe I'll try the Ramshot powder Silhouette for open class. josh
  23. Probably why you are the only one replying to my post. I was thinking of getting an 8lb keg but what I've read and heard that Power Pistol is dirty when used with 40 loads, and too quick for comp work in the supers. No best of both worlds there, I should've posted subject title, "What is the best single powder to use for both 40 in limited and 38 sup in open class?"
  24. I actually have 2 RCBS powder measure and this is the first time I've seen a chemical reaction with any powder and I'm not about to ruin the other hopper for experimentation (newer hopper is the ruined one). I've used WAP, HS7, VvN350, IMR 4350&4381, several AA powders through the hopper before being ruined by TG. lynn J, I agree Dillon equipment is nice but the RCBS stuff has been very good to me and have no reason to switch yet.
  25. Is this powder any good? I don't see anyone here posting/raving about it. Is it clean, is it good for 40 or 38 sup major loads? Any inputs about the advantage and disadvantage of Alliant Power Pistol will be appreciated. josh
