  1. Jeremiah, my reply was to Oddjob. He indicated that he was thinking about having a 9mm built. Yes, I do prefer to shoot a .40 in a 1911 platform rather than a 9mm. I load my .40 out to 1.200" OAL with a 180 gr bullet. It feeds flawlessly. I have never had a problem with a bullet locking back the slide in my Kimber .40. I don't shoot a 1911 in competition any longer. I have found that I shoot a G35 much faster and more accurately.
  2. Stryfox, I was told by a person at IDPA HQ that some of the modifications and perhaps some of the guns might not be legal when the new LGB comes out. IDPA really does not want their game to become an equipment race like IPSC did. I think the SVI/STI guns may be a little too gamey for them. Remember IDPA is about what you would carry in the real world. I don't think too many people carry one of the SVI guns in the real world. I have been waiting on one of the BUL M5s to become available in .40. Same type of gun as the STI/SVI, but a 1/3 of the cost. I think I am going to wait until the new rule book comes out.
  3. I thinned a set of Heinies down to .090" using a surface grinder. Kind of a pain even with a SG as you have to keep the wheel sharp and support the side you just ground with a shim when you grind the other side. After all of the effort I decided I did not like the thin sight and went back to a fat fiber optic dot.
  4. Not sure what gun you are having built, but you might want to think about a .40 instead. A properly setup .40 shoots softer than a 9mm. If you are thinking of a 1911 platform then I would certainly go with a .40 as it can be used for Lim 10 IPSC also. I have heard there at 10 rd. .40/10mm that work and fit into the IDPA box. I hate repeating something I have just heard, but I have not gotten around to trying one in my Kimber. I do not see why a 9mm barrel could not be made to work with a .40 breech face. That is next on my project list. That way one could use cheap 9mm bullets for practice and .40 for matches.
  5. Odd, it would help if you went to www.idpa.com and read the rules.
  6. I have heard a vague rumor that these guns might not be legal in IDPA next year.
  7. The three targets are also at different heights in the IDPA EP. I am a very happy camper if I can hit a sub 9 second EP including points down in a match. The best I have ever done with my G35 is 7.10 zero down.
  8. 4.3 gr. of Tightgroup with a 230 Rainier. OAL 1.260"
  9. Chris, the IPSC model is a little over priced by Charles Daly. I had talked to Saul over a year ago about these guns. He stated that the IPSC model should retail for about $1000 here in the US. Dealers cost is a little over $1,100 for the IPSC model. The model to get is the .40 Gov't . Dealer cost is $541. I am still waiting on one of these. There is a line from that "You might be a gun nut" list that says "You might be a gun nut if you have mags for a gun you don't own." Well I am guilty as I have four like new SVI .40 mags waiting for a gun. If I could buy Cy's STI for $500 then I would have a gun. BTW SVI mags will work in the older models if you whittle the inside of the frame a bit. I saw one of the older models that had the modification done at one of the Cherokee matches.

    ISMI springs

I will probably just stick with IDPA for now. There are a lot more IDPA matches here than IPSC. We can shoot an IDPA match every weekend. Some weekends have a match on Sat. and Sun.

    ISMI springs

    You put them in backwards.
  12. What is wrong with your stock barrel? I shoot hundreds of rounds a week of 9mm lead bullets through a G34. One would think this urban legend would die. The Glock barrel is easier to clean than a normally rifled barrel. We shoot a 125 gr lead bullet from Valiant Bullets. Two passes with a brass brush and a couple of patches with Hoppes leaves the barrel spotlessly clean. There are little if any lead deposits in the barrel after firing several hundred rounds per practice session.

    Cracked My G35

$500 cash, no check for the STI.

    Cracked My G35

Everybody knows that Glocks are plastic junk. Why don't you get a real gun like a STI Edge.
  15. John, the nail point trick worked. Thanks.
  16. Thanks John, I have several pins will try both ways.
  17. Thanks guys, I will try the radius trick. The brass is from an indoor range. I am sure it has been reloaded several times. Most of the pockets are still tight.
  18. I have a problem with primers being pulled back up into the pocket on my 550. Out of 100 rounds 10 will have the spent primers pulled back into the pocket. It is more of a problem with 9mm, but I have the same issue to a lesser degree with .40. I have tried changing the depth of the depriming rod from deep to shallow and also changed the little pin itself. This occurs with a RCBS sizing die and a Lyman. I have even tried polishing the pin to a mirror finish. I am stumped.
  19. Before I forget there is one more nice thing about a G35. A 9mm conversion barrel allows one to practice with low cost lead reloads. I wonder why someone has not made a conversion barrel for 1911 type guns? All it would take is a little wider barrel hood and maybe an extractor. Not sure you would need that with the external extractor 1911s. Flex, I too like to shoot low cost components. I just happen to have 50k of 9mm brass that has zero cost. Lead 9mm bullets run $16-$18m.
  20. Perhaps my first post was a little off topic. I was expressing my opinion, which I think is OK here, about guns used for IDPA. I stated that IMO the STI/SVI gun would not be the best because I felt, IMO, it should not be allowed. Just to make certain I am on topic here's my .02 on the best gun. I think the Glock 35 is the best. It can be shot in SSP,ESP, Production, Limited 10 and Limited. It costs 1/3 of what the afore mentioned STI/SVI costs. A properly set up Glock is just as competitive as any STI/SVI. Most shooters do not take the time or small expense to develop their skills with a Glock. One of my shooting buds purchased a nice new STI Edge for Limited. It has turned into a "Safe Queen" as he has put it aside for a G35. I offered him $500 for it just to ease his pain. Before I forget it is not a money issue. I have enough money in my "secret gun fund" to buy ten STIs. Hope my wife does not read this. BTW thanks for not insulting my low IQ by trying to convince me that someone actually carries an STI. I carry with the same holster I compete with. There are many things that I do not like about IDPA, just like IPSC. I hope IDPA remains true to it's concept of shooting what you carry and does not become an equipment race like IPSC did.
  21. I hate to be a wet blanket, but these guns(STI/SVI widebody) IMO have no place in IDPA. I lobbied the Regional IDPA rep. to exclude these types of guns from the approved list in the new LGB. IDPA is all about what one would carry in the real world. IDPA can turn into an equipment race just like IPSC did. Please do not insult what little intelligence I have by trying to convince me that people really carry these guns. If you see my posts on Glock Talk and 1911 Forum you will notice I am pretty critical of some of the IDPA rules that make little sense. I would like to use my G35 in CDP as it obviously makes Major PF. I would buy a G37 if I could use it in CDP also. I shoot a G35 and Kimber .45 in both IPSC and IDPA and yes I do carry these guns on occasion.
  22. When the regional guys were gathering information for the new LGB one of the things suggested was a higher class for the "Professional Shooters". Call it the Pro Class, Grand Master would have never been approved. That probably has about as much chance as my .40 S&W or the new .45 GAP being allowed in CDP. Maybe I should just shut up about the CDP thing, buy a Wilson .45 and meekly fall in line. NOT!!!!!! Mayo, I heard you have stepped up to the plate to be the Match Director of the Georgia State Match. Congrats, I knew someone would do it.
  23. I talked with a guy that had the original model BUL a couple of years ago. He had removed some metal inside his frame so that SVI mags worked. According to Saul the new model BULs will take SVI mags without modification. The new models have the round trigger guard. I have not seen the new model in person as Charles Daly chose to bring in the .45 models first. That seemed a little dumb as I feel there is a pent up demand for a low cost .40. The .40 Gov't model has a dealer cost of about $540. The IPSC model is over $1,100. I think CD jacked the price up on this model as Saul had told me this gun should retail for under $1,000. I plan on buying the Gov't model when they are available.
  24. I talked to Saul a while back and he said the new model BULs would take SVI/STI mags without modification.

    Glock Dovetails

If you can't drill and tap the sight another method is to take a prick punch and punch the bottom of the sight. The D&T is the best method. The Heinie sights are a little soft. I put a Novak on mine.
