  1. I also thought the RO was almost directly behind the shooter a lot, where he couldn't see the gun at all times, as he should be doing.
  2. ERGO ROCKS !!! But get the fat grip, palm swell [depending on your hand size] , AND the soft textured model. Added big benefit of placing your hand further back so trigger finger is on trigger properly. The standard grips are so small. I guess these were made for youngsters who hadn't fully developed a handful of muscles yet.
  3. Jiminfl, I had the same problem, my neck had to roll to look down the scope so my head was close to horizontal. I added a 3/4" riser and put the scope on tall rings. Now it works well for me.
  4. A friend and I just tried some .38 Super loads today for open w/ AA #7. They were excellent, clean and loud because the gas supply is huge and the flattest shooting open guns I've seen. The C-More dot jumped slightly and returned to where it started. I made you want to keep pulling the trigger, and keep pulling and keep pulling . . .
  5. These variations are fine but find a length you like and stick with it for a given load. It also needs to feed well in your mags and gun. You should be able to easily keep your length variation better than this range; .013 [13/1000] from the longest to shortest. But it depends on your equipment and loading habits. I'd say plus or minus 2 thousanths, .002, is the best anyone could do in large progressively loaded batches. Remember making Overall Length shorter increases pressure - a lot.
  6. Congrats to you! Crap, that means I have 9 years to go !!!
  7. What is that [whatever] secret code for ??????????????
  8. I can't see that Shuemann has any other interest in this other than pure, but what do I know. What S&WI said also concerns me though. Even with stainless barrels, you are still eating them up with the salts and moisture you can't get out of the small pores. An aside: I have trouble with STI mags in the summer. Even though I clean the stainless mags and wax them periodically they still rust from my sweaty hands, cartridge brass corrodes too - - maybe my hands are saltier than most ?? Anyway, I guess everyone will have to make his own decision on this one.
  9. One of the Scheumann's [pistol barrel maker of high repute] has an in-depth article on his website. At various times they have tested moly coatings. He feels it is an absolute no-no to do this to a barrel. If I remember properly, under the extreme heat and pressure of the gunpowder going off, it forms all sorts of compounds you don't want in your barrels, like carbides, salts and the remaining residue is hygroscopic. This means the residue attracts and absorbs moisture from the air, again something you don't want in the microscopic pores of your barrel, especially with the left over metal salts. The net result is that these componds wear your barrel and also eat at the microscopic pores [in the metal grain], enlarging them considerably, so they hold more of these undesired materials to further the damage and also add to the surface roughness because the porosity is increased. This sounds like increased leading or copper deposits in your barrel and difficult removal. Of course, this is Schuemann's or his company's opinion ,which I value, and I know there are those out there who use moly regularly who have opposite beliefs. I, however, know a little about metallurgy [nothing compared to what Schuemann and his people know] and it makes sense. I, for the above reasons, no longer use moly. Their website is hard to find but I know it is there. When someone comes upon it perhaps they could post the url for everyone.
  10. Steve, let the guy have a little fun. We all have at least a little pyromaniac in us; we're guys after all - - most of us anyway.
  11. Dykem makes layout fluids in spray, liquid and markers in lots of colors. By my experience it lasts longer plus it really soaks into the head stamp where it is pretty safe from polisher removal. http://www.dykem.com/ProductList.cfm?packa...52-ef525dc14941
  12. Yes, for even a halfway decent knife you absolutely have to use a Lansky diamond sharpening system or something like it - there are a couple of other brands. It keeps the edge looking nice, very sharp and at the same angle it was designed to be. For a number of years I did't use any kind of angle guide and became severely displeased with my knife, the steel it's made of, etc. When I realized how far off the angle had gotten over a period of time I bought a diamond guided sharpening system. I am now quite happy with my knife [knives]. They are sharp like they should be and the edge lasts longer. You only need 2 or 3 diamond hones [medium and fine] and the guide system, not 6 hones like they try to sell you. The diamond is far superior to the stones and is worth far more than the little extra it costs. It makes sharpening faster, easier and less messy. You'll be glad you bought it each time you use it. Touch up takes a few minutes.
  13. Maybe a herd of corrugated boxes was attacking him when it broke ? ? ? ?
  14. I like the SOG Flash II. Nice edge, fairly thin, light, good grip, Fast assisted opening and a pocket clip that leaves the knife totally concealed and less likely to work it's way out of your pocket if you are bending over a lot. Great customer service whenI did something stupid and broke the clip. Shop around $40 or less. Several sizes and serrated or not available.
  15. Oh, yeah, one of the most important things I almost forgot. If you can get the wife a good job or even a second job, you can buy lots more cool toys to shoot. We have guns that look almost like STAR WARS stuff.
  16. Jack a big welcome to you and thanks for your service. You gotta shoot USPSA. It's the best thing I've discovered. I always said to myself, "SELF, if I were a law officer, I' d be out here learning how to do this really well cuz my life might depend on it [ and the life of others]."
  17. Jthompson, I understood what you were saying that it was a one-time incident. I was just figuring what it would do to a person's gun if one did shoot them a lot. Sort of worst case scenario. I was especially interested because a friend and I were reloading 38 supers and last night I found a 9mm in one of our finished boxes. The only reason I found it is because it is 3/16 " apx. shorter than the .38S. So we were speculating as to how concerned WE should be about this since it is easy for one to sneak thru the loader apparently. Frankly, I think it's something we may see occur periodically and although i don't like the idea it seems like little harm will come of it. My humble opinion.
  18. I would think before long you'd tear up the sharp corner of the chamber shoulder and generally change [erode] the dimension there with bullets and hot high-pressure gasses. Of course this would lengthen your headspace but if it collects deposits of bullet metal, powder or itself while destructing then you'd have a shorter headspace, either of which is not good. Sounds messy. In any event, it sound like a KB is not the issue if you do it occasionally.
  19. What nice sounding, innocuous terminology they have at the hospital --wound debridement. Was it actual surgery or scraping and removal of dead tissues ? -- ouch.
  20. Sig Lady, I thought you were more brave. KEVIN C: How do you know - - any pics?
  21. I like Unique and Bullseye for shooting BUT they are dirty.
  22. I have used 40 year old loads and they work just fine and would kill you just as dead. I've also used 30 year old opened powder that was stored properly and it worked just as well as it did, although this is probably not a recommended practice. I remember reading that when gunpowder degrades it starts to smell funny but don't remember what it was supposed to smell like. See if it smells like new powder. I'd look on the internet for the smell info and be REALLY CAREFUL until you are sure it's ok. Congrats on your first post and Welcome to the forum !!
  23. Glockopop, you lucky guy. Maybe you should think about getting serious with her. It sound like a lot of side benefits and its also easier getting along with Dad if you have this hobby in common. UNLESS you get really lucky and find a girl who owns a gun store or liquor store.
  24. bwit

    9mm major

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking either diameter would be ok but thought it'd be better to defer to those with experience. Personal message on it's way to you. Any deals on bullets up there?
