  1. I just recut the crown and forcing cone as a matter of course whenever I get a new or used revo. They are almost always off from a little to a lot. A choked barrel will kill accuracy also, because it swages the bullet smaller just ahead of the cylinder, then it's not tightly controlled the rest of the way out the barrel. If you tend to these items and use .358 bullets, you will probably get match grade accuracy.
  2. Yep. They can get heavy and full of bullets sticking out, making them not want to roll by then.
  3. Yep - that would be a big advantage when everyone else only had 6!
  4. My 44 Auto Mag Revolver would have worked fine for that. It shoots 300 gr. bullets at 920 fps. for a 275 power factor. It runs 6 44s on a moon clip for fast reloads. If 2 pins are lying down together, it will take both off in 1 shot. I haven't shot it in years, might dig it out sometime. I used to get 5 second + or - runs with it way back when. Fun times.
  5. I just make my own solid ones from bar stock. They have to be fitted individually, but no worries after that.
  6. I like the Ron Power ones, just personal preference.
  7. I had meant to edit to say to take it out and see if there's any improvement before making any alterations, but the computer shut down on me and I just now got it going again. If it's better with it out, then you can file the bottom of the flag to clear the top part of the DA sear. It won't hurt anything to leave it out forever, but some types of competitions require it to be in there. If you do file the clearance, it will still work as designed and not be a problem, even going back to stock.
  8. We have recently discovered that there may be a borderline situation in some cases where the top of the DA sear may be grazing the bottom of some hammer block flags when the hammer block is down in the firing position. If your hammer block is still in place, you might try filing a bit of clearance to see if that helps. We are redesigning that area now.
  9. Thanks for the report, erwos. I love my 625s! Actually I love all my Smith revos. The one I love the most is the one I'm shooting at the time. This hammer is designed to give you the best of both SA and DA. No cocking the hammer (DA), but the shot placement control of a light pull (SA). I'm glad it's working out for you. You can probably tune it back to the 44 to 50 ounce range for Winchester. Let us know what you end up with.
  10. I'm shooting .357 JHP bullets in my custom .355, 1 in 10 twist barrel Open Bianchi gun. In a Ransom rest (I can't hold it that good) it gets 3/8" groups at 25 yards and 1-1/4" groups at 50 yards.
  11. On a low power rebound spring, you make sure it works the action reliably, then learn to run your trigger finger both directions instead of riding the trigger forward.
  12. I got started as a Wichita, KS PD Reserve Officer, then Sedgwick County Reserve Sheriff Officer, shot on both of their pistol teams. I've been shooting matches since 1979 to now. I have shot a lot of local matches, Bullseye, PPC, IPSC, Steel Challenge, Metallic Silhouette, IDPA, NRA Action Pistol (Bicanchi Cup), and ICORE. I shoot heads up with all of them using a S&W revolver of some kind. I have won my class in local, regional, national, and 2 world matches. Build my own custom revolvers to shoot with. I've sold a line of Bianchi Cup accessories that I invented and manufacture to the other competitors since 1995. I have recently invented and manufacture a new S&W KLN frame hammer that makes the trigger pull get lighter as you pull, somewhat like a compound bow. I've been sort of involved in pistol matches for a while.
  13. I don't know, Skip. Once I get the hammers made, I'll have to find a -2 and try it. If you want to order one, you can try it. If it doesn't work, you can send it back for a full refund.
  14. Hi Lesliet- Thanks for the report. Good reviews from customers are the main thing that will help. We are trying to transition the hammer business from a sideline into a full time occupation. We are currently finalizing work on the K/L hammer (one hammer fits both) and hope to have those ready in the near future.
  15. Thanks for the review, David, glad it's working for you. It gets better with practice. Revos are a different animal than autos.
  16. Thanks Practical Man! Appreciate the support.
  17. I did 2 of them. One 4" and one 6". I got a custom chamber reamer from Manson and reamed the chambers from 357 to 40 S&W. I got the 4" barrel from someone (don't remember who now) that was a 646 takeoff because they were having a longer custom barrel made for the 646. I sent a 6" 686 barrel out and had it rebored and rifled to 40 cal. Did action jobs on both guns, and put fiber optic front and rear sights on. Then later put a prototype KL hammer in the 4". The moons are TK custom off the shelf item. The moons are .035 thick blue moons off the shelf item. They don't have a maker name on them, but work fine. I might have a spare 686 barrel that could be used for reboring if someone you know might be looking for one.
  18. What else would you like to know, Matt?
  19. Actually, it's Protocall Design. It's been my experience that the normal front sight height works with the LPA sights. Thanks for the good word, Oteroman!
  20. I'll have my K&L frame hammer ready to go this month (I hope). It starts at the normal weight, then goes down to whatever just the rebound spring is. On my centerfires, that's around 6.5 to 7 down to about 3. I haven't done a rimfire yet, but it will be similar, maybe with a little higher starting weight. You can check it out at revupaction.com
  21. Congrats to Racinready300ex! It's always good to see another member recognized for their valuable participation.
  22. I use a ScotchBrite wheel for things like that. The back edge of S&W triggers can be sharp, too. I once cut my trigger finger when going for a draw, and the end of the finger hit on and slid down the back edge of the trigger, cutting it open. It hurt some, but worse was the bloody, sticky mess it created, just as I was starting a stage. All my triggers are now dull on the back edge.
  23. The Bianchi Cup is the national championship match of NRA Action Pistol. The match is held at the old Chapman Academy in Columbia, MO since 1979. Doug Koenig has won 19 of the 42 matches, almost half. Maybe you have heard of Ray Chapman or Doug Koenig? The match is named in honor of John Bianchi of Bianchi Holster and Leather Goods.
  24. I would love to go, but can't get away. Maybe next year. (I hate having to say "next year". Happens too often.)
