Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. Edited. Thanks for the call out Sarge. Chamber/Cylinder, same thing...
  2. Not surprised. I had one mag that would catch on the slide when it closed on an empty chamber. Filed a slight taper on the back of the follower and it was solved. I've been running MBX for years now, and Adrian and Tony have always been good to me.
  3. Good choice. I run 4 standard w/spacers and a 5th Single Stack DAA Racer on the back. Never had any issues. They stay put 'til I need them and draw like butter.
  4. I ran some Adidas last year on sale for $40 from Sportsmans Warehouse, and a backup pair of football cleats for $8 on a clearance sale that earned me 1st A at SW Michagan SSTK in a torrential downpour. This year I have some Columbia goretex trail shoes that are super-comfy, thick tread and bead up water. I think a pair for waterproof cleats and a pair of goretex trail shoes is the way to go.has you covered for whatever happens at Level 2+.
  5. There was a very cool M&P open gun that ran flawlessly at Iowa Sectional last year. Only time I saw one. Can’t say it’s the best option, but if you love the dot and can track it, go for it. Just make sure to branch out and try new things. On occasional for comparison. You’ll find your natural progression will accelerate as you become familiar with one and try another. Welcome to the forum!
  6. +1 for Burkett practice. Get the mag to the same position every time. You’ll find the final motion becomes “insert+index to target” in the same fluid motion. Whether the gun is 6” or 12” form your chest is debateable. It’s like golf, whatever you can repeat consistently will produce the best score. My 2 cents.
  7. I do most of my ordering through Brownells, but the Brazos Tuned Trigger kit is a must, especially for OPEN. I second EGW as often as possible, but have had great luck with AFTEC extractors. I even keep a second in my bag as i’ve seen friends extractors break at matches and the Aftecs usually drop in and save the day. Buy a quality disconnector and a Cylinder & Slide Light Pull sear spring. They seem to have the best resistance to fatigue. The rest is really preference, but I prefer Kart barrels. PT frame, slide & EVO grip will give you the least trouble, but know their slides are SUPER hard and require extra patience when tapping the Bomar. Good luck on your build!
  8. I use the smallest cylinder with TiteGroup and get 3.8gr under a 125gr Blue bullet @ 1.125” for 134 PF. Tried messing with smaller cylinders for 147gr, but found the feel of the above load perfect for PROD to be perfect. I shoot primarily major, so I’m not trying to get any closer to 125PF though.
  9. Love this idea.^^^ Up high would keep some dust off them from the shop work too. I’ve got a few 10” lag bolts I might use. Thanks!
  10. I’ve been relocated down to the basement, so I’m setting up me reloading/shop/gear all over again. I’ve got 4 complete belt rigs and I’ve previously hung them by nails on the wall, but it takes up a lot of wall space and a little bump can send a $200 rig crashing from 6’. How does everyone else store their rigs? Thanks.
  11. Wilson used to make one they claimed was 3.25oz, but I suspect that was w/the recoil spring plug. SV Infinity makes one for sale on Speedshooter.com too but it's $100 on sale.
  12. The EGW One-piece 5" tungsten guide rod adds 1.33oz. Total weight is 3.0oz compared my 1.67oz factory rod. Not sure if its the heaviest, but its a start.
  13. I’ve had both 9mm and .40 (10mm mags) do this. I’ve found, and have recommended to customers, that when ordering Tripp Cobra 10rd mags they ask for the 9rd springs & metal followers. I personally take 3 coils off the 10rd 10mm mags, or 1 coil off the 9rd mags. Factory mag springs are often over-sprung. Yes, you can polish the disconnector track and chamfer the breech/disconnector track edge (your original question) but it’s the friction between the round being stripped/chambered and the round under it that causes the “hang up.” Reducing friction by eliminating spring pressure has helped many of my customers. Please note, again, that this does not work w/the hybrid followers. I ALWAYS use metal followers from Tripp and have eilimated “hang up” issues. Secondly, the hybrid followers can cause feed issues if mags aren’t thoroughly cleaned between stages. I’ve seen it many times, unfortunately at at level 2+ matches.
  14. Awesome! I have a Para Pro Custom 16.40 from when they used EGW internals and PDV Ionbond’d both slide and frame. I also have 2 Para Pro Comps in .40 that I shoot in SSTK with stock trigger group at 2lb 2ozs and LOVE. However, I recently rehab’d a Remington 1911-R1 Limited SSTK in .40 and found Remington is using the same PARA frame, slide & sights, but is skimping on the rest. The internals are no longer EGW and now all MIM, the beavertail is VERY poorly chosen (bad fit). And it appears only the slide is PVD coated ,as there's an obvious visual difference in the coating. I also don’t think the “IonBond” is the same quality as the Pro Comp had, because my Pro Comp .40 has 5,000+ draws on it w/zero muzzle wear, but the Remington is showing wear after 500. Bummed to see Remington skimped when the Para Pro Comp was such a great build. I don’t have experience with the Remington double stack specifically, but I’m guessing it’s similar.
  15. I like Dry Hands. Get it on amazon. Doesn’t get sticky, but has a nice tack and lasts a long time.
