tightloop Posted December 24, 2003 Share Posted December 24, 2003 The real reason that there are VERY few shooting couples, is that most men can't stand the thought, much less the reality of having one of the "weaker" sex beat him at his manly game. Even worse if you were married to them or lived with them and had to listen to an instant replay of the action till the next match. Our egos are too fragile to stand much of that... She enjoys it, but I have found the secret to the damaged ego problem you mentioned. Find another hobby they like more. Then while you are practicing, they're doing something else. Continue this for a few years, then your ego is perfectly safe, and you actually enjoy the few times you really tank a stage and they don't resulting in a stage "win" for them. Of course the Ken Hackathorn and Ernest Langdon classes might have something to do with it too. And the fact that she watches everybody else shoot and picks up tips there. BSeevers Posted December 25, 2003 Share Posted December 25, 2003 I think women make better students because they don't think being a male gives inbred knowledge and ability to shoot a pistol fast and accurate. They also listen very well. I wish we had more women in the shooting sports but it is a little like auto racing. Lot's of testosterone and macho attitudes. It is a fun sport. Now I would hate my new girlfriend to see Robbie and compare me to him as her first experience to IPSC shooters. Sort of like doing your first porno and it's a group shot with John Holmes there. Do you rember if she was hanging around with an italian guy with veeeery short hair? If she is the girl in question, let's suffice to say that she is actually Italian Open Lady champion, European Shotgun (Pump division) Lady champion, and a good friend too. She did have an Open gun on her hip, and I am sorry but I do not remember seeing ANYONE standing beside her, go figure! Are you planning on attending the Florida Open again this year? Skywalker Posted December 25, 2003 Share Posted December 25, 2003 blkbrd, I'd love to attend that match since my teammate Irene (her name) told me what a fantastic experience it was, but for this year my shooting experiences outside Italy will be in Cheval-Blanc (France) for the EuroMed cup and maybe in Salonicco (Greece) because the local shooting club is twinned with mine.
