bountyhunter
No secret on how to polish steel: start with sandpaper of about #600, then #800, then coarse polish then finer polish. I like to use a little light machine oil when I do the sandpaper step. You can use a Dremel with the soft buff wheel on the final polish steps just don't get the metal too hot. Auto chrome polish is good for a final polish. Edited April 29, 2008 by bountyhunter

Aircooled6racer
Hello: Put it in the tumbler for 20 hours and then polish on a buffing wheel on your bench grinder. Charge the wheel with a polishing stick compound. I use a green compound stick. Thanks, Eric
Kingman
I throw mine in the tumbler for a bit. works fine for me, but it is not mirror polished.
Seth
+3 on the tumbler. Tried that with a couple of factory tubes and it made them much prettier (and slicker).
BSeevers
After that try Flitz on a Dremel
HSMITH
The tumbler will clean it, clean it nicely too. The sandpaper will be an incredible amount of work. A buffer is the only reasonably efficient way short of electro polishing.
larry cazes
I always polish the insides of a new tube for better function. I use a felt wheel and dremel with Flitz polish.

XRe
Just FWIW... I found that polishing my mags to a mirror finish on the outside ended up being detrimental - they became slick in my hand, too, and I started dropping them during reloads The insides can be mirrors, but the outsides, for me, need to stop slightly short of that...
