Liota
Conversations can take a funny turn when people are exhausted. My commander put this question to me today. Help! Doing a Google search, will let you know what I find out. Liota

AlamoShooter
When I was a kid and the family would go on vaction my Dad would say, " And -their- Off! - like a herd of Turttels!"
SiG Lady
This might help... http://rinkworks.com/words/collective.shtml http://www.opundo.com/gaggle.php?searchstr=%25 The Platy isn't on the list, but how about a "slither" of them...? Later: But here's something ELSE I found on another site: "There is also no collective noun - equivalent to a pride of lions - for platypus. Platypus are solitary animals that do not form social groups or family units."
Stumpnav
C'mon Liota, Think Blue. A squadron of platypi... A flight of platypi... Being solitary creatures, maybe it should be...a detachment of platypi Given your present location how about a Kimchi of Platypi Here's one to zing back at your cc... Where does the white go when the snow melts? Out here!!
AikiDale
plethora That was my first thought.... And considering the Platypus gives striking evidence God has a sense of humor, I've also considered a chuckle of Platypus or a confusion of Platypus. Liota
You guys have been most helpful. Keep them coming. I will provide an answer to the commander this morning. I feel sure he will ask again. It will make a record 24 hours of talking about platypuses. The funny part about it is that I was not not not not not going to that search on the internet yesterday morning. I told the Lt sitting next to me that I wasn't. She told me that he, the commander, would. I lasted less than half an hour, most of that en route to a meeting that was rescheduled. Stump, I will pass the question along. He should appreciate it. He's a pilot. Liota

SiG Lady
I kinda like the term "a detachment of..." but various authorities say there IS no collective term for the platy kind. Like, when was the last time you saw more than one in one place at a time, anyway... even on TV...? However, their offspring are called "puggles." bayoupirate
I know that a baby one is called a puggle, I'd just say "Platypi"
Liota
Well, much like some of you have surmised, Platypuses or Platypi only get together for sex. Makes relationships simple enough. Thank you for all the help. Liota
Sixgun
How about a "platoon". Seems in keeping with the military... Ray
