Goodonpaper
The right side of my wide SV thumb safety broke off at the post during a practice session this spring, sucks, I like the size and shape. The left side was fine so I continued to run it . Well the left side broke off today... Who makes a similar size and shape that isn’t a consumable part? igofast85
Have you consulted SV? They may have had a bad batch of heat treat or something. They may replace it.Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Goodonpaper
I had considered that when the right side broke off, coincidentally (it seems now) I had dropped my empty gun setting up my practice props for the day and that could have caused it. I’ve heard of others breaking and at this point I’d rather replace it with one with a better track record.
Goodonpaper
Does anyone know how wide the EGW or Atlas non shielded are? The SV is .41” and I would like to stay in the same neighborhood.
Stymie12000
Egw overall is .420" wide. The pad for your thumb to sit on is .250"
Goodonpaper
Thanks Stymie ! I’m assuming the .250” is what’s extending out from the slide? They didn’t look extended in the photos but it’s hard to tell. Looks like I may be giving the Atlas a try
GunBugBit
The EGW has a nice width to it. They make great thumb safeties, whether you get the single side or the ambi. I like the 10-8 1911 armorer block for fitting the sear engagement lug.
Goodonpaper
I went ahead and ordered the Atlas I’ll post dimensions when I get it for others reference
427Cobra
I broke dual safety on my SVI, I replaced it with a single side myself from SVI, pretty easy fit, zero blending.
Goodonpaper
For as pricy as they are I’ve seen a fair amount of mention of them breaking, they sure do look pretty though. The Atlas came yesterday packed in rust preventative so I didn’t get it out. The thumb pad looks to be 3/32” narrower than the SV but still wider than standard. ltdmstr
Pretty sure Lone Star Innovations makes a real wide one. Probably at least as wide as the SV.
Salsantini
I have an two SVI pistols and pistols with the EGW safeties. Similar feel to both. Edited November 21, 2019 by Salsantini
muncie21
I like the width and contour of the SVi extra wide, single sided (for right handed shooters) safety. My strong side thumb naturally rests over it providing me a very comfortable, high grip that naturally forces the safety down. For those that have the SVI extra wide and also wide safeties from other manufactures, any comments as to brands that have similar width and contour to the SVI one? Goodonpaper
The Atlas has a steeper angle and gives more of a ‘thumbs up’ hold than the SV, and it’s not quite as wide. It was pretty meaty and took a fair amount of fitting and blending which isn’t a bad thing. It’s going to stay on my gun but if I had to do it again I’d probably try the Lone Star or EGW. Or roll the dice on another SV.
kk4364
Lone star innovations makes a nice tactical wide similar to the svi in my opinion. Lsi 1st pic svi 2nd pic. Svi a tad widerSent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Kilrb
Phoenix Trinity makes a wide one as well
Goodonpaper
That’s the info I was looking for! Thanks! Unfortunately both the PT and LSI were sold out at Speed Shooters. The Atlas is fine and I’m going to run with it but if I find the need for another one I’ll probably try the Lone Star.
kk4364
Personally I have small fat hands and the LSI feels better. Just my 2 cents. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
