ima45dv8
What the heck is that fat bump-looking thingy (I'm sure that's the correct technical nomenclature ) on tank barrels? I read an explanation on them once a few years back and can't find it anywhere.
Schutzenmeister
I suspect it has something to do with internal ballistics and barrel harmonics ... No, that's not double talk! But yes, I'm only guessing ... Does anyone out there really know?

IanLock
Sensor for barrel temp? Barrel coolling aid of some sort Recoil reducer maybe. do you rekon he shoots that in open or tac scope...
DKOL
It's used to dissipate gasses as they travel down the tube. The bump you see covers a section of barrel that has several ports. The main thing I remember about them was that they were a pain in the butt to clean.
Airedale
Bore evacuator! Dave
Derek45
"Bore evacuators are ejector pumps mounted on cannon to remove propellant gases from the barrel after firing. The bore evacuator contains a reservoir which is charged by high pressure propellant gas during the projectile's transit down the gun bore. After the projectile exits the muzzle, the pressure in the bore decreases to nearly ambient. The high pressure gas in the reservoir then flows through angled ejector nozzles, inducing a flow through the breech end of the gun and clearing the bore. It is highly desirable to improve the effectiveness of the gun bore evacuator. Increased evacuator pumping action will result in reduced flareback potential and greater crew safety." http://www.eng.rpi.edu/mane/lightcraft/Res...escription.html
