TANFARM
My last foolish question to end the year! Im considering trying RMR HP 124’s as opposed to the round nose I’ve loaded in quantity. How do I set up my COL for HP Bullets? Am I using the real overall length of the round or adjust it to compensate for the difference in Bullet design? Im currently loading Major 9 to 1.165.......thanks for your continued patience!!
George16
RMR’s JHP has an ogive that’s wider than most JHP like PD or MG. I have some and I had to load it shorter compared to the PD for my TSO and CM that’s not reamed. It hits the rifling sooner compared to the PD and MG I’m using. Make some dummy rounds and do the plunk test on your barrel and find out what’s the OAL it’ll allow you to load it.
dave33
Do yourself a favor and order Precision Delta JHP's in quantities of 2000 or more at a time. You can load them much longer than the RMR HP bullets and that makes a big difference in 9 major. I have personally had much better accuracy with PD over the RMR bullets also. I do like many of RMR's offerings but their HP is not one of them.
chevrofreak
RMR bullets are great, but the MPR isn't ideally suited for open use unless your barrel has a crazy long throat. Precision Delta JHP's can be loaded longer, but Everglades V2 can be loaded longer yet. If I were to do it all over again I would only use the Everglades V2 bullet, but I have over 12,000 of the PD's to use first.
muncie21
I agree with the above comments. I'm in the process of working up some 9mm Major loads and noticed that the RMR JHPs need to be seated much deeper than PDs. For my CZ Czechmate, the RMRs would plunk/spin free at 1.09, but 1.1 or 1.11 they started to 'stick' a bit. I'm going to chrono what I have loaded, however I think there are better choices of projectiles for 9mm major.
superdude
You determine the OAL by first determining what length is required for that specific bullet that will fit in your chamber. Do the plunk test with that bullet to see what fits.

Do the plunk test with that bullet to see what fits. This! Always this. Find your max OAL by seeing how long you can go until rounds don’t drop in and spin freely... because they bullet is rubbing the rifling. Shorten them up until it spins freely again, and that’s as long as you *can* load that bullet in that particular gun. How long should you load? Well that’s a combination of experimenting for the best combination of pressure, power factor, accuracy, and reliability. For that bullet. In that gun. Generally you load as long as your gun will allow as your starting point - particualrly with Open.
