Carrying PCC

Let's try something new. Let's have a rules discussion without arguing for once?

Do the rules prohibit a shooter from carrying his PCC during walk throughs? I'm not talking about shouldering it. Just carrying it with muzzle up or down as stated in rules.

What about carrying it all day? I see slung is still in the rules but what about carrying it?

8.7.2 Competitors are prohibited from using any guns or gun replicas as sighting aids while conducting their inspection (“walkthrough”) of a course of fire. Violations will incur one procedural penalty per occurrence (also see Rule 10.5.1).

doesn't say can't carry, but can't use as sighting aid.

PCC 5.2.1 Except when within the boundaries of a safety area, or when under the supervision and direct command of a Range Officer, competitors must carry their pistol caliber carbine:
PCC 5.2.1.1 Detachable magazines removed.
PCC 5.2.1.2 Competitors must use a chamber safety flag, or clear chamber device, that is easily visible externally to the gun when transporting from vehicles or stage to stage. Anyone found in violation of this rule will be immediately escorted by a Range Officer to a suitable range or safety area where appropriate corrective action shall be made.
PCC 5.2.1.3 Un-cased pistol caliber carbines must be carried shouldered or slung from the shoulder or held in the hands with the firearm reasonably vertical. Match Directors may require this to be "vertically upwards" or "vertically downwards" providing this is made clear to all competitors in a reasonable manner.

based on the pcc rules addendum, no prohibition against carrying pcc during walk throughs, or carrying it or slinging it all day.  flagged, muzzle up or down.

after i've run a COF and my pcc is flagged, i sometimes follow the RO around, carrying my pcc vertical, to check my targets.

I always do this ^^^.

Sarge, I see no reason why this would be a problem, but I would simply advise extreme caution.  You can end up rubbing elbows with other shooters doing walk-through's on tight stages, and sweeping anyone with a PCC (flagged or not) is a DQ.  You'd need to be very vigilant that your muzzle is not sweeping anyone at any time during the walk-through.

PCC 10.5.2.1 Failing to point the muzzle at a side berm or back stop during casing or uncasing, or sweeping any person with the muzzle of an uncased PCC, whether loaded or not, even if a chamber flag is inserted. Side berms/backstops may be used for casing and uncasing only. All other gun handling with the PCC, e.g., sight pictures, turning dots on/off, etc., must be accomplished in a safety area or under the direct supervision of a Range Officer.

We announce at the shooter's meeting that those without cases or carts may stage their PCC's at the safe tables.  That allows them to leave them there and help tape/reset without worrying about sweeping someone while they bent over to pick up a popper with a slung PCC.

I agree.  Not a prohibition against carrying, but still a chance for a DQ if you are not careful with your muzzle discipline.

I think I might be the only one here who follows what you are asking, Sarge.  And under the current rules, I think your implication is correct, it actually could be carried all day or slung so long as always reasonably vertical.  There are some clubs out there (more and more) pretty much saying it has to be cased from stage to stage, which I always kinda thought was because of what I think you are asking.  Then the question becomes, are they ok with following the RO during scoring.  I was surprised to see the sling remain in the rule update.  Thought sure that was going away.
