Smitty79
How about a major match that thousands can shoot without traveling beyond driving distance? When I was a Boy Scout, we did postal matches against other camps. We all shot targets at the same distances and sent in the scores. We do something like that, with classifiers, why not wth field courses? Someone, or several someones, could design 7 stages. Add a classifier and chrono. Set it up so everyone shoots it on the same weekend and submit the scores for the biggest aggregate match ever. OPENB
I remember American Handgunner doing something like that about 20 years ago. Sounded fun.
Mhall
You've seen stages getting taken out of a match book for an upcoming match and used for a club match the week(s) before right? They NEVER look the same. With complex setups of field courses, you could never duplicate one to the next. Classifiers work because they are typically short, don't have targets at angles and include ALL dimensions. Can you imagine swinger timing? davsco
idpa has done this, was cool to see nationwide rankings. but i guess the classifiers accomplish the same thing albeit on smaller stages.
revoman
ICORE has done this for years and we even get international shooters.
CHA-LEE
Without very detailed stage drawings with dimensions and measurements of everything there is no way that it could be consistently deployed. Could it be done? Sure but I doubt that many clubs would be willing to go through the trouble to measure everything exactly. Some matches have trouble setting up classifiers to legal dimensions and those are pretty easy with very few props. Asking the same group of guys to setup a whole field course to exact dimensions would result in inconsistent interpretations of the stage and basically nullify the whole point of it anyway. Perhaps it could be tested by shooting say 5 or 6 classifiers? Setup would be much more consistent and easier. or perhaps devise a match consisting of 8 classifiers that could be shot over a season? Tally scores at the end of typical Midwest season around November. Would probably have to include video with submissions to rule out cheating. CHA-LEE
Using existing classifiers can be done. But those are usually boring stand & blast type of stages.
Dr Mitch
Great idea, no way to pull it off without verifiable quality control. Like Charlie said, plenty of clubs can barely pull off a classifier set up to spec.
Sarge
If not classifiers you might get away with just small and medium COF's that have few props and gimmicks that should help keep things consistent.
Nathanb
Steel challenge is about the easiest way to do this. Set stages set distances set targets.
