It makes the firearms biz look like it is run by and regulated by buttoned-down bankers. The multiplex screen emporium gets a ridiculous fraction of gross income for the first few weeks. As in, 80% of the gross for the first two weeks or so go to the studio and distributor, 20% to the multiplex. Then the screens get a "better" deal. But they pay for new prints, etc, they pay for anything not supplied in the first shipment. Unless something has "legs" and just keeps bringing in a good number of viewers, the theater wants it gone once the crush is over. They'd rather have 20% of a hot new hit for two weeks than 30-40-50% of the ticket revenue for a movie that brings in a hundred people a week.
