Slide freezing?

The last two matches and during one practice session I have had an issue with my gun. After firing a few shots (3-10 or so) the slide will bind. (Think feeling like a hand full of sand was dumped into the gun feel) After smacking the rear of the slide hard a few times I am able to get it back forward but it still is tight and does not move freely. I disassemble it and can find no issues or abnormal burrs or wear marks. reassemble it and everything runs fine. several stages later it will do the same thing with out warning. This has only happened 4 times out of the last 800 rounds. I am leaning toward it being the guid rod rotating slightly and the head binding in the frame/slide and causing it to lock up but only because I can’t see anything else that would be doing it. I am at a loss.

The gun is a CK Arms Thunder open with approx 800 rounds through it. Other than this issue it runs great.

Thoughts?

Email Bobby or Matt?

Needs to be broken in takes about 1000 or so rounds nice hot loads get the gun hot don't clean it for 500 or so rounds need the grit to lap the rails in is breaking info on Brazos custom websight

Probably has a lot to do with it. These things need at least 1000 down the tube to start troubleshooting issues.

I had this issue once. It was like you said, the head of the guide rod binding against slide. It was caused by a shok buff.

Are you by any chance running a shok buff?

No shok buff on it. The gun is plenty wet with SLiP EWL which is what I use on all my guns. I broke it down after I posted that and looked at it under light and a magnifier and there is wear and bur marks where the head of the guide rod fits into the frame.

Call/email Bobby or Matt and let them know. They'll probably get back to you immediately. And if its a gun problem they'll for sure make it right.

Picture of the frame

By any chance did you change the mount screws on the C-More? They are two long!!! Those screws should be flush with the frame.

Don't shoot the gun until you or a smith corrects those screws.

Yeah I added a GoGuns Gas peddle. The screws need to be shortened a bit but its not as bad as it looks in the picture. I think it looks worse due to the shadows and oil. In any event, the problem predates adding the gas peddle though and there are no marks on the screw tips indicating that they are making contact.

What is your OAL? I still would not shoot that gun until the screws were even with frame.

Matt replied back and it would seem that the problem is a lack of radius on the back of the guide rod. He is sending me a new one this week.

Its frustrating when you spend a lot of money on a gun and there are issues but the fact that on the day after Christmas after 6pm on a Saterday Matt did everything in his power to help me figure out what was wrong with my gun and is sending me the parts to fix it. That is OUTSTANDING customer service!

+1 on this. Check your slide to see if it has any grooves dug into it by the long screws. Just a thought.

The awesome thing is, that's standard operating procedure for Matt! None better!!

Hello: Wrong size guide rod strikes again! The come in two different size head diameters and the one you have is the larger one which is incorrect for the frame cut you have. The small one will fit the larger hole in the frame but not the other way around. Looks like Matt got you sorted out. Thanks, Eric
